Chapter 53: planning a break

Ugh.
Dimitri
I hate how I much I hate him but feel so drawn to him. I can also feel that Nala is also irate at this moment.
I have been able to avoid him for almost a month. Of course NOW he catches me off guard.
I roll my eyes and try to storm past him. As I get by him he grabs my arm, making me come to a stop.
I huff and puff and try to get free from his grip. He won’t budge. Finally I stop fighting, stomp my foot, throw my head back, and yell, “what do you want from me?”
He let go, which made me turn to look at him.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” He asks, looking hurt.
“Are you serious right now? Why don’t you ask your fiancé. I’m sure she can fill you in. I can’t believe you. I really can’t.” I exclaim shaking my head as tears begin to form and I sprint off to the pack house. I get inside the double doors and fall to the ground crying. I can’t do this. I was just getting stronger. I don’t need him! I don’t need anyone! I pull myself off the ground and walk in to get a cup of coffee.
Rita was working and humming a song. When she turned around her smile turned to a concerned frown. “Are you alright sweetheart?” She asks as she came up to me putting her hand on my shoulder.
“I’ll be alright.” I say with my voice cracking, trying to not start crying again.
“I’m not sure I believe you, but I’m not one to push. Let me grab you one of the cinnamon rolls I just made, help yourself to the coffee. It just finished.” She states as she walks off.
I fill my thermos so I could go to my room, she comes back with a plate that has a very large, frosted cinnamon roll on it. “Here you go sweetheart. I gave you the biggest one, you look like you could use something to cheer you up.” She says softly as she gave me a quick hug.
“Thank you Rita. I love and appreciate you!” I say quietly and walk to the elevator. I would have stayed longer but with her being so kind right now, it just made me start to cry again. So I needed to head out. I need to make it to my room so I can relax and cry in piece.
I make it to my room and quickly climb into my window seat. I drape my blanket over my lap and stare off into space. How dare he. Why would he show back up? I don’t get him! He has a fiancé, he needs to be focusing on her and leave me alone!
“You don’t want him to actually leave you alone though. You know you have feelings for him.” Nala states defeated.
“I HAD feelings for him. Past tense. A thing of the past.” I quickly say.
“No. That is not true. You know I can feel your pain, heartbreak is a pain, and one I can feel. Hopefully after today, things will calm down. He now knows you are aware of his fiancé, that it is out in the open. So now he will have to figure out what he wants.” She stated trying to reassure me.
Ugh.
At that moment there was a knock on my door.
“Come in” I answer.
Gentri came in, “what happened to you? You went out and I thought you would have come back in for your stuff. But you never came back...” He asks as he set all of my stuff on to my desk.
“It’s a long story. I’m just so sick of everything right now. I finally was feeling good, and then something has popped its stupid head back up..” I reply angrily but then took a deep breath and let it out.
“I’m guessing it has something to do with Dimitri?” He asks but was more stating a fact.
I threw my head back and rest it against the frame behind my head.
“I’ll take that as a yes. I’m sorry.” He says gently as he sat on the other side of my window seat.
“It’s not your fault. I’m just dumb at trusting literally everyone.” I yell with tears in my eyes.
“You’re not dumb, he is.” He replies.
“What are your plans for spring break next week?” I ask.
“Well.. that’s actually one thing I was coming to talk to you about..” he responds with a guilty tone. I gesture for him to continue. “Welllll. I’ll actually be gone the entire week… Starting Sunday morning..” he informs me.
“What? Where are you going?” I ask, curious and a little disappointed.
“A few of us warriors that have applied to be in the kings guard. We are all going for the week to the royal kingdom. We will be training and taking physical fitness tests for them to determine who is fit to be a royal guard...” He explains proudly but also sadly. “And unfortunately I have asked.. They have said only those who have applied, are allowed to attend the week.”
Well that sucks but it’s also exciting for him!!
“I understand! That is so exciting!!! Although I am a little disappointed I won’t get to hang out with you for the week.. I am excited for you and proud of you! I know you will get picked or hired or whatever the correct term is called.” I say excitedly.
“Only a few will be chosen. So we will see... So what will you do the full week?” He asks, seemingly concerned.
I sat and thought for a second. A light clicked on in my head.
“I am going to find a way to go back to the human village. I want a little break from everything and everyone here. You’ll be gone, Caitlyn is never around lately, dad has been busy, and I want a break from being near Dimitri and his craziness... Even if I have to walk, I’ll find a way. Would be nice...” I answer now lost in thought of the potential plans.
“You are not going that far ALONE! Especially since you don’t have your wolf yet.. Maybe we could leave earlier and I could take you. I could drop you there, and then I can head to the royal kingdom. Then I can get you before I go back home?” He asks but also mainly was telling me what he was now planning.
“Are you sure? That sounds good to me! I’m so excited now! We just have to get through school this week. Maybe we could fly there? That would take less time.” I state.
“Let’s wait and talk to your dad later on and see what he thinks. Then we can go from there. Ok?” He asks.
I nod my head with a big smile creeping up on my face. I can’t wait to be back home, even if it’s only for a week.. It will be nice. I really hope dad will let us fly there and back. It would help with my mental peace, having a break from this craziness here.. Flying would also save a lot of time.
I can’t wait to see everyone… If I’m allowed to I guess.
