Chapter 54: convincing dad

Gentri and I talked for a few hours. He’s beyond excited and nervous for next week. I wish I could be there to support him. I check the time and see it is almost 8am. So I stand up.

“Whelp. Let’s go talk to my dad.” I say nervously. I’m not sure if he will allow me to go back.. I just need a break. From everything here. From all of the pressure.. From Caitlyn and Maverick. And from Dimitri especially.

We make it to my dad’s office and knock.

“Come in!” He shouts.

We go in and he looks to be in a good mood. Yay!

He looks up and sets the papers he has aside for the moment. “What’s going on guys? Can I help you with anything?” He asks curiously.

“Well I have a proposition for you. So you know how Gentri is going to the royal kingdom next week during spring break..” I start off by informing him of something he knows about, but also in a form of a question. This will lead into my question.

“Yes I do. Congratulations again Gentri! I am beyond proud of you, and know you will do well. Although I will miss you and obviously Alexis will too.” He says proudly and then turns his head towards me to add, “it is a closed event, I have no way to alter you being allowed to go with. I have already asked..” He seems a little upset.

“No. No. No. that’s not what I am going to ask.” I say quickly hoping he’d go back to smiling.

“Ok.. so what is it you are going to ask?” He asks bluntly.

“Well.. I really, really, REALLY need a little break from here. Just like a little vacation on spring break. And I was really hoping you’d allow me to go back to Yellow Stone, the human village I’m from. Just for the week. I will mainly just stay at the house. I’m feeling home sick. And with everything going on. I’m beyond stressed and just really want a break..” I vent and plead.

“I can take her there Friday after school. I don’t leave until Sunday. And I can pick her up on my way back..” Gentri starts to add to try to help my case, but was cut off. My dad had raised his hand as to make us stop. I slump into the chair. Damn.

That’s when the door opens. Caitlyn and Maverick come in hand and hand. Cue the eye roll.

“Yes dad. What’s going on?” Caitlyn asks and then saw Gentri and I in the room, causing her to develop a thoroughly confused face.

“Next weekend I need you both to fly with Alexis back to Yellow Stone. She’s homesick and wants a break from the stress here. So she has asked for a get away during spring break. I figured you, Caitlyn might also want to spend time at home. This way I have 2 people to help keep her safe. They had proposed Gentri taking her there and picking her up, but then no one would be there to protect her during that week. Maverick you’re one of my stronger guards, which makes you perfect to accompany Alexis and Caitlyn back home for the week. Does this work for you both?” He paused.

They look at each other, then at me, and then back to my dad nodding.

“Ok then it is settled. I will get everything arranged. The car will take the 3 of you to our private plane. You will then fly there, I will have a car arranged for you there. And then when you come back they will deal with the car again. Plan to leave Saturday morning. You will stay until the following Saturday morning. I will have exact times later on. Is that all?” He informs us and then asks looking at me.

Shit.

I quickly nod.

“Very well. I will catch up with you all later. I need to tackle this stack of papers now.” He states dismissing us. “Oh, and I heard about the training with the warriors… I’m VERY proud of you Alexis.” He exclaims with such a huge smile that one formed on my face as well.

“Thanks Dad.. For everything.” I say beaming as we left the office.

That’s when Caitlyn’s voice brought me back down to Earth. “What happened? What does he mean training with the warriors?” She asks confused.

“I’ve been training with Gentri for a month. Jacob, the pack trainer and head warrior invited me to start joining their trainings.. I was able to attend for the first them this morning. It was great.” I announce with a smirk.

“She was more than great, she was amazing! You should have seen some of the guys’ faces. They were in shock and awe! She is a BEAST!!! I can’t even believe how strong and fast she is and she doesn’t even have her wolf yet. She’ll be almost unstoppable when she gets her wolf.” Gentri says proudly and excitedly, boasting my confidence.

“WOW, that is awesome. I had no idea. I didn’t know you’ve been training that hard or that you were invited to join in the training with the warriors. That is impressive!” Caitlyn says in shock.

“There’s a lot you don’t know about these days.” I say shrugging and walk away.

I got to my room and shut my door, kick off my shoes, crawl into my bed, and cover every inch of myself with my blanket. So much for my break from the love sick puppies. Oh well.. Maybe we will be able to still spend time together while we are there. I miss our relationship. I obviously don’t want to be selfish and not let her feel happy and loved. I just hate feeling she dropped me like a bad habit.

I hope I never find my mate… I do envy the love they have for each other. But I don’t like all the other stuff that’s included. The jealousy and overprotective junk.. The being so deep in your relationship you drop everything and everyone else.

At that moment I hear a slight knock and then the door opens and closes. Great. Next thing I know I hear a pair of shoes hitting the ground, and then Caitlyn diving into my blanket cocoon.

“I’m sorry.” She quickly says, her voice was full of sympathy and hurt.

“What?” She caught me off guard.

“I’m sorry that I’ve been so obsessed and absorbed with Maverick. I haven’t spent really any time with you since my birthday... That isn’t fair to you OR me. After hearing you have achieved such a huge accomplishment and I had no idea, it was like reality hit me. What else have I missed???” She asks grabbing my hands.

I hesitated.

“Please!??” She pleaded, I could hear the hurt in her voice.

I told her everything. Every little thing. Of course saving the Dimitri drama for last.

She jumps up out of the bed and starts pacing.

“Caitlyn it’s fine.” I say.

“How? How is it fine Alexis? You liked him! He tricked you and he is engaged??? No. No NO! What a loser!!!!!” I could see her fighting for control with her wolf.

I walk over and give her a big hug. She relaxes a little and hugs me back.

“You’re right it is NOT ok, but it will be. I freaked out on him this morning, and he got the hint plain as day.” I state shrugging.

“You are so strong Lex, you really are. I admire your strength and courage. Now I really see why you want a break from here… It will be a fun filled, forgetting the loser week. We just need to get through this week. Ok?” She asks with a smile.

I nod and she hugs me tightly. I missed her.
