Chapter 62: Where is she?

CAITLYN’S POV;

I woke up wrapped in Maverick’s arms. I take a deep breath in through my nose.

Inhale

Enjoy the musky and orange scent he has.

And exhale.

Ahhhh.

He smells so good.

I open my eyes and he’s staring right at me, making me feel extremely embarrassed. He just saw me inhale his scent.

“You are adorable when you are embarrassed.” He teases me. His dark brown eyes staring into mine.

He leans in and pushes his full lips onto mine. Catching me by surprise, making me gasp. Causing him to deepen the kiss by slipping his tongue into my mouth. I start to get lost in this kiss, but then something hits me.

Something is wrong.

I pull back fast.

“What’s wrong?” He asks concerned.

I hurry up and climb out of bed. “I’m not sure. Something feels… wrong. Bad…”

“Where’s Alexis?” Lilly asks nervously.

Shit!

I start panicking, running from room to room. She’s not in her room, the bathroom, my room, living room, or kitchen. I run outside and she’s not on the porch. I run back inside and grab my phone.

“What’s going on?? What’s wrong???” Maverick asks extremely worried now.

I pull out my phone and call her. Straight to voicemail! Ugh!!!!!

“AHHHHHHHHH!” I scream out in frustration.

Maverick grabs me by the arms, forcing me to stop. “What is going on?” He asks calmly but equally anxious.

“I can’t find Alexis. She’s not here. Her phone is dead!” I say and start to cry. I had one job. And now she could be anywhere.

Maverick tilts my head up and wipes my tears away. “Breathe Cate. Breathe. Before we freak out, let’s check the path, the gym, the store, and even check with your friends. Call them while we walk the paths. See if they’ve seen her. She’s got to be here somewhere. Breathe. Nothing will get accomplished if we start freaking out... We need to try to remain calm and level headed. I know this is easier said than done. Get your shoes and coat, let’s check the path and the gym.” He takes control of the situation snd he hands me my coat.

I let out a giant breath in frustration.

He is right.

I throw on my shoes and coat. We head out and lock the door. As we start to jog the path, I call all 3 of our friends. No one has seen her since the mall. I tell them if they do, to let me know. That everything is ok. But I’m just worried after my mom disappearing. No sign of her on the path. We walk in the gym and no one is in there. Weird. Ok. So we walk a different way back to our house so we can walk to the store.

Maverick is really trying his best to keep me calm. But I can also feel his worry growing as the time passes, and she’s not at any of the places we have been looking.

We go in the store and look around. No Lex! Where is she?

“Can I help you Caitlyn?” I hear a familiar voice say.

I turn around to see Rodney, the store cashier.

“Have you seen Alexis?” I ask trying to not alert anyone of my panic.

“Why yes I did sweetheart. She was here a few hours ago. She bought yet an other charger… This store could stay open just from the amount of chargers she goes through.” He says laughing to himself.

“A few hours ago?” Maverick asks.

“Why yes young man. She was here, bought the charger, and left. Is everything ok?” Rodney asks his smile had faded and tone serious. .

“She was by herself? Or was she with anyone?” Maverick asks.

“She was alone. There wasn’t really anyone else in the store when she came in. Is everything ok? Is Alexis ok??” He begins to look worried.

“I’m sure everything is ok. Her phone was shut off and I was worried. She probably plugged it in and got distracted with a book. You know how us older siblings get worried over nothing.” I say casually and trying to make light of it all. Adding a slight smile.

“If you say so. If you do need anything, remember I’m here for you girls.” He states as we walked to the door.

“I know, thanks Rodney!” I say with a smile as we leave.

Once we were outside I start to feel like I can’t breathe. She is no where. She got a charger and then just disappeared? No. No. NO!!!

I fell to the ground trying to breathe.

Soon I feel warm comforting hands around me.

“Caitlyn I know you’re worried, I am too. But we need to get it together if we are going to find her. We need to call your dad. Let’s get back to the house before we call him. There’s a lot we can’t risk others overhearing.” He says as he stood up and offered me his hands. I took them and he pulls me up into a giant hug. Making me feel warm and safe. I take a deep breath inhaling his scent to calm me more..

I nod and we walk home.

On the way I feel this eerie feeling as we walk past the church. I shake it off and we keep walking. Soon we are approaching our home when I notice Sam walking towards us.

Crap. That takes away an other place she could be.

He smiles and walks up to us, “he guys. Where’s Lex? I’ve been trying to text her but haven’t heard back. I know you are going to have a movie night, so I wanted to see her again before that.”

He looks from me to Maverick and back to me. His facial expression changed in a second. From happy to anxious.

“Where is she?” He asks again, this time I could sense his worry.

“Come with us inside.” I ask.

“I would NOT take him inside. You need to go on the path into the woods. Trust me.” Lilly states.

“What?? And why are you talking to me in front of a human? Won’t he notice you?” I ask her.

“This is not time for questions. Take him to the forest now. While you talk to him, you need to have Maverick call your dad about how Lex is missing… Just trust me. Please.” Lilly pleads.

“Hey actually come with us. Lex is on the trail, I think. Come with us?” I ask. Maverick looks confused, I just gave him a look of please go with it.

Sam shrugs and walks with us.

I mind-link Maverick about what was going on. That I didn’t know why, but that Lilly said to do this. He didn’t even question it, just nods in understanding.

We walk the path but then suddenly Lilly told me to turn and go deeper into the woods.

“Here is good. Stop.” Lilly commands.

So we stop.

Sam stops and turns around to face us. “What’s going on? This isn’t the same path. WHERE is Alexis?” He asks getting angry.

I nod to Maverick who steps back and starts to call our dad.

“Sam I need to tell you something.” I state calmly.

“The ONLY thing I want to know, is where is Alexis?” He was starting to shake with anger, worry, and confusion.

“We don’t know. She went to get a charger a few hours ago, and never came home. We fell asleep after we worked out. Woke up and she was gone. Her phone is off. She is gone. It’s like she disappeared. Maverick is on the phone with our dad…” I stop because it was at this exact moment that I knew why Lilly said to come here.

He was shaking so hard and that’s when I saw Sam go from a tall muscular male into a giant brown wolf.

Shit!

Maverick throws me the phone and transforms in half a second. His wolf is black and huge, but somehow Sam’s wolf seems bigger?

Sam is a wolf?? I stood in shock.

“Caitlyn!” I got brought back to reality by my dad screaming on the phone.

I pull it to my ear. “Yes” I reply.

“We will find her. I’m heading there right now. I’ll be there as fast as I can.” And he hung up. I colapse to the ground, unable to grasp anything else. I curl into a ball and start crying. I feel so weak and helpless. My sister is gone! It’s my fault! And now Sam is a wolf? What is going on???

Maverick mind-links me to go to Sam’s house and get his parents.

I got up and ran as fast as possible. Slowing once I made it to his house. I pound on the door. Soon his mom and dad both come to the door.

“Can I please come in? I have something to discuss with you.” I say.

“What is this regarding?” The dad asks.

“Sam.” I respond.

They look at each other. The mom grabbing the phone, the dad asks “where?”.

And they both follow me to the forest, while the mom was on the phone with someone.

They both stop and stand in shock when they see not one but TWO giant wolves.
