The storm brewing outside was a nightmare for the guests staying at the seaside hotel...
It was already a chilly night, but the storm made it worse, with the constant howling of the wind and the crashing of the angry waves...
The thoughts of having a relaxed vacation was thrown out of their minds and the only thought was to survive the night in this storm...

When the morning came rolling in, and the waves went back home, all the guests decided that it was a time for them to mark the end of their holidays. Which signalled the start of a busy morning for the couple who owned the chain of bungalows that was used as beach hotels.
After the endless stream of guests finally left the hotel, the couple collectively sighed, relieved that everything else was under control and no one else got hurt in the dreadful storm.
Walking out of the hotel hand in hand, the couple decided to take a stroll on the beach. Well for them it was not a stroll but just going out to see if anyone needed help after the dreadful storm last night.
"Oh God, Honey, is my eyes playing tricks on me or is it a little baby on the stone with a wounded mermaid nearby the shore!" The wife hurriedly clutched onto the hands of her husband, alarmed by the sight of a baby lying on top of a stone near the sea and the body of a mermaid lying next to the kid.
"No dear, that is a baby and a mermaid alright, let's go and pick the baby up from the stone, it seems very...!" The husband was also looking at the exact same baby who was on a stone with a worried expression on his face.
Hurrying their pace towards the child and the mermaid, the couple almost tripped on the ruins left last night. However, at that moment the only thought that came to their mind was the baby and the wounded mermaid...
Picking the baby up, the wife softly crooned, "What an adorable baby, do you see the smile?" Then she turned towards the mermaid and concernedly asked, "Are...are you alright...what can we do to...help you...?"
The mermaid looked at them with pleading eyes and pointed towards the baby. Giving hand signals to the couple to take care of the kid. The mermaid then took out her necklace, with a bluish-purple pearl in the shape of a teardrop and placed it around the neck of the baby. After that action, the mermaid slowly went under the water without saying anything else.
The couple stood there speechless but then the husband took notice of his wife's motherly smile as well as the baby's endearing smile. He then decided the baby was a gift from the Heavens which came from the deep sea to them, a couple who keeps yearning for a kid but could not conceive.
"Let's keep the baby shall we, since the mother of the girl allowed..." The husband need not say any more words as the wife happily nodded her head, her attention fixated on the baby cradled in her arms.
That day onwards, the couple started to study Marine Biology especially the related topic of mermaids that they never dreamt of learning...
