Chapter 12:Sharp Heart But Soft....

509 Words
By the time Lucas Parker stubbed out his cigarette, Nina Walker had obediently settled onto his lap. They sat face to face. She avoided his gaze, lowering her eyes. His hand rested on her waist, slowly caressing her. The friction sent waves of heat through her body, making her tense. Her lashes fluttered as she bit her lip instinctively. “You shouldn't have been at a place like that,” his voice was hoarse. Nina lifted her gaze and met his eyes. “Mr. Parker, not everyone in this world has the luxury to choose how they live.” Only people like him, standing at the top, could weigh what they should or shouldn’t do, what they want or don’t want. People like her didn’t have that choice. Lucas curled his lips, lowered his head, and gently nipped at her neck, making her shiver involuntarily. “Your mouth says no…” “But your body says yes.” People said Lucas Parker was a man of restraint, but every word from him was laced with teasing heat. His hand slid further along her waist, igniting a fire she couldn’t handle. She clutched tightly at the front of his shirt. “Have you been to the capital before?” Nina wasn’t sure why he suddenly asked that. She paused for a few seconds, and he gave a self-deprecating chuckle, as if blaming himself for asking for something so unnecessary. “Did the injury on your leg heal?” His fingers pinched her thigh lightly, the meaning behind it obvious. “More or less.” Neither of them had drunk tonight. Nina could clearly feel the heat radiating from his breath, it made her heart tremble. She had no experience. Just a few subtle tricks from him, and she was already losing control. … Her voice was broken and uneven, but she heard him whisper low into her ear, “I don’t like the smell of strangers in my house.” “Your necklace is on the table. And there's also a check.” “The rain has stopped outside.” The message was clear: It was time for her to leave. Nina’s face turned pale. When she looked at him, she found the same indifference and coldness as always, as if all the passion just now had been hers alone. He stayed calm and collected, watching her drown in her emotions. That made it all the more humiliating. Just then, Lucas’s phone buzzed. He got up to answer it. “Hey, why are you still up this late?” It was the first time Nina saw this gentle side of him. Not the perfunctory kind of charm he showed at social events, but truly affectionate and warm. “Daddy, when are you coming back?” Nina vaguely heard a child’s soft, childish voice. His child? “I’ll come back as soon as I finish here.” Lucas walked into his study, avoiding her completely. Nina gave a bitter smile. Unless Lucas Parker wanted it, she could never truly seduce him.
