CHAPTER 4:Bad Boy Huh?

"I'm telling you, he likes me back Jane,"says Chloe as she puts in the combination to her locker. Jane simply rolls her eyes,"He likes you alright,so much that he gets a panic attack when you get too close." Chloe just scoffs and remarks,"Whatever, it's not like you haven't had the longest crush on that nerd." Jane covers her face as she turns red in embarrassment. "Good morning ladies,"greets a rather excited Emily."Hi Em, love what you did to your hair, brings out the sexy eyed Latina in you",says Jane as she gives her a quick hug. Chloe quickly flashes a picture," I'm posting this. You look really great, who are trying to impress?"Emily blushes heavily,"No one in particular. Just felt like looking pretty, you know with chess tryouts and all,"she says dismissively. Jane and Chloe give each other knowing looks,"Oh, those are today? Explains a lot," Jane says as she wriggles her eyebrows."Enough about me, have you sent out the party invites?," asks Emily in an excited voice. Chloe just shrugs,"Nope, I'll start sending them out on Monday. There's an emergency I must attend to first." Jane rolls her eyes,"Come on, it can't be that serious." Chloe gives her a death glare,"It's super serious. Someone took my parking spot. Must be that new kid because everyone knows my spot." Jane replies,"She doesn't know. Problem solved." Chloe just smirked,"That means an introduction is most needed." Emily just shakes her head,"I honestly can't find a reason for drama." Chloe just smiles,"Oh honey you don't have to. I simply am,"she says as she closes her locker and turns to walk away.

Valerie jogs down the hallway towards the Science Lab. She made sure to get to school early to try and catch up on a bit of Chemistry. She enters the Lab and is disappointed to not find Mr Brad but one learner seated on a desk on the other side of the room. She approaches the girl to try and ask about Mr Brad. As she gets closer, she notices that the girl is reading Country by Danielle Steel. She had just finished reading that book herself. "That's a really good read,"she says as she sits next to the girl. "Her books always are," says the girl not looking away from the book. "I'm Valerie Parker by the way. I was wondering if you know where I can find our Chemistry teacher,"she says in a low voice. "He's never early. And oh, I'm Charlotte Richards," she replies still not looking away from the book. Valerie sighs heavily," Okay, that's terrible,"she says,disappointment evident in her voice. "I can help you if you're interested,"Charlotte says as she neatly tugs away her book. Valerie's face lights up," Thanks for offering. I just need help catching up on what you guys have done so far." Charlotte looks at her watch,"We've only done a few things on Organic Chem. But we don't have much time now so I guess we'll do it after school,"she says politely. Valerie smiles widely but it quickly fades away,"I wouldn't want to impose on your plans with your friends." Charlotte just smiles,"I don't have friends,"she says dismissively. Valerie just smiles,"You don't have many but one friend, me,"she says in an egoistic tone. Charlotte just laughs,"What makes you think you can be my friend?" Valerie just smirked,"I'm amazing,"she says.

The bell rings signalling the beginning of the first period. Tony and Billy greet as they walk past the two. Mr Brad walks in a minute later,"Good morning class, today we're going to-" he is cut off by the intercom going off.

"What's good Summer View High. It's your girl Ashley James back with some announcements. So let's get it done shall we? A reminder that chess, volleyball and basketball tryouts are today. Hope you brought refreshments cause man, those hunks we're gonna see *she chuckles weirdly* Cheer,soccer and drama tryouts are tomorrow, As usual cheer and drama will try to share the gym and soccer, outside on the sports field obviously. That's all things decent but on the hot gossip side though, someone completely messed with the hallway cameras. Now they're all facing the wall *Laughs hysterically* But I think we all know who did that so thumbs up to you big guy * chuckles nervously* Anyway bye guys, Tucker's coming my way and definitely doesn't look chilled"

There's some chatter that soon dies off and Mr Brad goes on teaching. The door open, taking his whole attention,"How pleasant of you to join us Mr Downs."Riley just smirks,"The pleasure's all yours Mr Brad,"he says casually walking to his seat by the window, right next to Charlotte. He smiles at the two girls and begins taking down some notes."Okay class, use the next ten minutes to finish up today's activity,"says Mr Brad as he sinks comfortably into his chair. Valerie and Charlotte work on it together and are actually shocked to see just slouching on his seat."Are you planning on dropping out soon Riley," asks Charlotte in an amused tone."And leave you all alone? I'd never,"he says in a fake hurt voice. Charlotte just laughs and throws a pen at him."Hey Val, how's it going?,"he asks upon seeing her brows put together. Charlotte chips in,"Wait you know him? Please tell me you're not also under his charm." Val just raises her shoulders,"What charm?" The three break out in a fit of laughter earning themselves a warning look from Mr Brad. The following lessons are just a blur and it's break time. Valerie hands out her hand to Charlotte,"Come with me if you wanna live". Charlotte takes her her hand,"Oh save me, my knight in shining armour," she says dramatically and they walk out walk out of class laughing their lungs out.

"I'm telling you, she cancelled last minute,"says Billy as he bites into his burger."It's that thing you all call love, a pure waste of time,"says Riley in a confident tone."Don't mind him Bill, Liz will come around. Like she said, she's been busy that's all,"says Tony. They joke around until Billy spots Valerie and Charlotte,"I'm calling them over." He waves and gestures for them to come over. Charlotte looks hesitant but Valerie takes in her hand and guides them towards their table."Hey boys,"says Valerie as she sits next to Riley and Charlotte in between Valerie and Tony. They greet back and exchange in meaningless charter. "Oh oh, red alert,"Billy says as Chloe approaches their table. "Hello handsome," she says placing herself on the table,right in between Valerie and Riley. He just smirks,"Hi Chloe, hey Em and Jane," he nods at them. They greet back and engage in a conversation with the others. She shamelessly flirts with Riley then finally turns her attention to Valerie," And who do we have here?" Valerie looks bored but replies anyway,"Valerie Parker, but my friends call me Val,"she says politely. "Yeah see that? I wasn't really asking. You took my spot,"Chloe remarks rudely. Valerie looks taken aback,"You sit here? Wasn't reserved," she says digging into her snacks. There are a few chuckles around the table causing Chloe to look serious,"I'm talking about my parking spot." Valerie just shrugs," Wasn't reserved as well," she replies as she slurps her juice. Chloe storms off angrily but her friends stay behind. "Well that's that, your spot in cheer isn't reserved," says Billy causing everyone to laugh.

The classes pass by quickly, so does lunch. Its tryouts time,"Are you sure I'm allowed to be here?,"Valerie asks nervously. Charlotte just smiles at her,"Relax okay? Wait for me at that table over there, I need to observe a few things first." Valerie does as told and Charlotte walks around paying attention to skill, technique and timing. "Quite a turnout hey? You can take a break,"says Tony as soon as he arrives,taking the performance board from Charlotte. She walks towards Valerie,"Seems like chess is now more attractive than ever. Anyways you've been quiet, What's up?,"she asks with concern filled eyes. Valerie hesitates at first but ends up asking,"Who is Chloe?" Charlotte just smiles,"The most popular girl at school. One of the school's prettiest. Super mean and tries to scare people off. And oh, super obsessed with Riley,"she finishes off with a tiny chuckle. Valerie seems amazed but just changes the topic completely. Tony walks towards them,"Char,someone would like to challenge you to a game. I just lost to them,"he says sounding defeated. Charlotte slowly walks towards the table, she'd recognise those eyes anywhere,"Hey Emily, so you challenge me now?," she asks with a smirk."Take it as some form of respect,"she says and winks at Charlotte. They exchange a few snide comments throughout the game."Oh come on, how are you that good?,"Emily asks as they pack up the pieces. Charlotte just smiles,"A magician never reveals his secrets. But you almost got me sweating," see says sweetly. She watches as the students rollout if the room."Are all chess games that intense?," asks Valerie taking her out of her trance. Charlotte just looks away,"There was no intensity. Come on, let's do Chemistry,"she says dismissively.
