16 Day drove out of Filoti with excitement and anticipation in the pit of his stomach. He followed the familiar road from the villages towards Chora, going due west initially along the Naxos-Halki road, past Konstantinos’s atelier, and onwards to the quiet bay where he regularly went to do his research at the Nikos Elias house. A lovely taverna stood at the opposite end of the bay from the Elias house. The locals called the bay Paralia Votsala, meaning beach of shingle or pebbles, and the taverna was called Taverna Ta Votsala, Pebbles Taverna.
