Garrett was many things—a tinkerer, an entrepreneur, a collector, a creature of base and shameless lusts. Really, such was the combination of interests that had kept him alive, and sane. His knowledge of engineering and his great wealth were what had enabled him to have planned his deep-dug redoubt in the first place, but it was unlikely that he would have gone through with the project had he not possessed vast collections that needed safe, climate-controlled warehousing, too.
