Chapter Thirty-Four: The First Trial Elara's POV The ancient doorway stood silently before me. Its silver carvings shimmered beneath the Moon Stone's light. Every instinct told me not to touch it. Every beat of my heart told me I had no choice. The chamber remained silent behind me. I could feel everyone's eyes following my every movement. Draven stepped forward. "Elara." I turned. Concern filled his silver-gray eyes. "You don't have to do this today." I smiled weakly. "I think I do." He looked toward the Moon Stone. "It can wait." The ancient voice answered before I could. "Destiny waits for no one." The chamber trembled. Even the Council members looked startled. The Moon Stone had spoken again. Alpha Alaric slowly exhaled. "It has chosen." "There is no turning back." Draven looked at me one last time. "If you're frightened..." He stepped closer and gently took my hands. "...remember one thing." I looked into his eyes. "You've survived everything life has thrown at you." "You survived abandonment." "You survived loneliness." "You survived rejection." His thumb brushed gently across my knuckles. "You are stronger than you believe." Warmth spread through our mate bond. Lunara purred. "He's right." Vespera smiled. "We're stronger together." I nodded. "I'm ready." --- I placed my hand against the ancient handprint. The moment our skin touched... Silver light erupted from the doorway. Ancient runes began glowing across the walls. The stone doors slowly opened. Cold air rushed out. Beyond them... There was nothing. Only darkness. The Moon Stone spoke once more. "Only the Chosen may enter." I looked back one final time. Draven smiled reassuringly. "I'll be right here when you return." King Cassian placed a fist over his heart. "So will I." Luna Seraphina smiled through her tears. "Have faith in yourself." Alpha Alaric bowed his head. "The Moon guides you." Taking a deep breath... I stepped into the darkness. The doors closed behind me. --- Silence. Complete silence. I couldn't see anything. Couldn't hear anything. Even Lunara and Vespera were quiet. Then... A single silver light appeared. Followed by another. Then hundreds more. Stars. I wasn't standing inside a temple anymore. I stood beneath a sky filled with endless stars. Soft grass brushed against my feet. A warm breeze carried the scent of moonflowers. "It's beautiful." "This place isn't real." Lunara whispered. "It's a memory realm." Vespera nodded. "The Moon tests the soul here." A young girl suddenly appeared. She couldn't have been older than six. Dark curls. Silver-blue eyes. Bare feet. She wore a torn little dress. She was crying. She looked exactly like... Me. I slowly walked toward her. "Are you alright?" She looked up. Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. "No." "Why?" "They said nobody wanted me." My heart shattered. The little girl hugged her knees. "They said I wasn't worth loving." I knelt beside her. My own eyes filled with tears. "I know how that feels." She looked at me. "Does it ever stop hurting?" For a moment... I couldn't answer. Then I remembered Luna Elena. Draven. Luna Celeste. Alpha Magnus. King Cassian. Lunara. Vespera. I smiled softly. "Yes." She tilted her head. "When?" "When you realize..." I gently brushed her curls away from her face. "...that the people who couldn't love you were never the ones who defined your worth." She stared at me. Then slowly smiled. "You really believe that?" "I do." The little girl reached out and hugged me tightly. The moment she did... She dissolved into silver light. The stars above exploded into brilliant moonlight. The ancient voice echoed around me. "The First Trial is complete." "The heart that has known pain... yet still chooses compassion... is worthy." Silver light surrounded me. Lunara stepped forward inside my soul. She smiled proudly. "Our heart has always been our greatest strength." Vespera wrapped an arm around both of us. "Mother would be proud." Tears rolled freely down my face. "So would Father." For the first time... Neither Lunara nor Vespera corrected me. Because all three of us knew... Wherever he was... He had never stopped searching. The silver light became blinding. The temple returned. The ancient doors slowly opened. I stepped back into the Moon Chamber. Everyone was waiting. Draven immediately crossed the room. His eyes searched me from head to toe. "Are you alright?" I nodded. "I passed." The Moon Stone glowed brightly. The elderly Council Alpha smiled. "It has accepted her." Alpha Alaric looked toward the Stone. His voice barely rose above a whisper. "One trial complete." "Two remain." Before anyone could celebrate... The Moon Stone flashed crimson. Not silver. Crimson. King Cassian's face lost all color. Vespera gasped. "No..." The ancient voice thundered through the chamber. "The Blood Trial has begun." The room fell into stunned silence.
