“If you are reading this you must be of age already, blossoming into womanhood, and I'm sorry to say this but, your father and I are most likely dead. I know you have so many questions about yourself and your true family. But before I begin I want you to know that your father and I really love you and we did what we did to protect you. You will understand it all very soon. You are Zia Lothbrok, born on the ninth day in July to Abel and Celeste Lothbrok. You have no siblings. You are a fae or fairy, anyone you'd wish to call it. I'm sure you must have grown up believing these things do not exist. But they do. It's who you are. By now all our kind would have been destroyed. Except you. You were much easier to hide since you were just a baby. One of our own,who was banished for unjustly killing a human, betrayed us. He joined the Alkyaries, our greatest enemies, and gave them our secrets. But he was also killed. He was foolish enough to have trusted his enemies. Trust me you'll know an Alkyary when you see one. They smell foul to us. The presence of the necklace in your household has helped to conceal your identity and completely tame your mischievous impulses. Fairies are naturally full of mischief. I didn't want you to give your adoptive parents too much trouble. Fairies come into their full ability when they reach the age of twenty.I hope you have fun discovering them. They might also experience some display of power when they first meet their destined Love. Visions and Levitations are not uncommon. Don't be scared of your powers. For the most part you control them. Just let your heart guide you. I wish I could teach you because there are so many things to learn. I love you so much Zia. I entrust you to the care of our Goddess Aine,” Selena allowed the tears to flow freely this time. She mourned the loss of a family she wasn't opportuned to know and love and learn from. She wept for her parents who had been forced to be apart from their daughter so soon after she was born. She wept for herself. Never had she felt so utterly alone and confused. For a long time she just watched as her tears blotted the ink on the paper. When there were no more tears left to shed, she took a deep breath and went on to wash her face. The crying had been a cathartic release. She felt lighter as though a burden had been lifted off her. Selena thought of what to do about the necklace. She wanted to know and experience who she really was. Every aspect of her character and abilities which she was still finding hard to wrap her mind about. She didn't care for being concealed or kept under wraps like some sort of mummy. She yanked the chain off and threw it under the bed. She decided to keep the baby blanket and laid it gently inside her box. She shook her head as she thought of the fact that she had always had her birthday wrong. Nancy's child was born on the second day of July so it made sense that her birthday in the records should be the same. Selena glanced at the clock on the bedside table. It was past 2pm. She wondered with a pang if Gabriel had somehow had a change of heart. "Don't be silly. He's barely ten minutes behind schedule. Perhaps something came up." She thought. She allowed her gaze to roam the space that had been her room since she was a toddler. She was definitely going to miss it. Something on the bed sheet caught her eye. She could have missed it if not for the fact that it was on one of the bright red floral patterns. Her heart sped up as she got a closer look. She gasped as she picked it up. Just then, she heard the blare of a car horn. "Gabriel" she murmured and quickly shoved the single strand of snow white fur inside her purse for further examination and confirmation of her suspicion. She stopped to say goodbye to Nancy and even gave her a hug. Selena thought she deserved it. At least she had kept her 'safe' all these years. She took one last look at the living room, shut the door and walked towards Gabriel who was leaning against his car. Was the air between them always going to be this charged? Selena wondered as she stepped right in front of him and their eyes locked. "I'm sorry I'm late," he said, still not breaking eye contact and muttering something that sounded suspiciously like 'incorrigible pups' under his breath. He frowned. "Have you been crying?" "Are your eyes always this intense? She returned as she turned her gaze to the side trying to avoid his question. "Really?" He c****d an eyebrow. She then gave him her best "I'm in distress" look. "Can you please get me out of this place?" He glanced warily at her ex- parents' house and nodded. They were silent for most of the drive. Both of them lost in their thoughts. Gabriel was worried about his mate's countenance. She had obviously been crying and he wondered why. His hands tightened on the wheel as he thought that someone must have hurt her. He glanced at her through the rearview mirror and saw that was digging through her purse for something. He stiffened as he watched her hold up a single strand of white fur and peer closely at it. She sensed him watching and their eyes met in the mirror before he quickly returned his attention to the road. Selena had no doubt about it this time. They didn't own a pet which left only one explanation. The wolf in her dream. Or had it been real? This is ridiculous. She thought and a bubble of laughter escaped her lips. She quickly caught herself and slapped a hand over her mouth. She rested her eyes on Gabriel who hadn't reacted to her sudden amusement. She hoped he didn't think that his new employee was just raving mad. She mentally shook her head and rubbed at her temples. By the time Gabriel got to the pack house, which was actually like an estate but without fences or walls to separate the different houses, Selena was fast asleep. He opened the rear seat door and still she didn't stir. "Let's not make this a habit." He chuckled. Gabriel picked up the single strand of fur that had slipped from her fingers to the seat beside her and pocketed it. Then he gently carried her out of the car. Raphael's and Clara's squeals woke her up. At first she didn't register Gabriel's strong hands and she thought she was floating. His cologne filled her nostrils and she nestled her head even closer to his toned chest and inhaled. Gabriel caught the motion and chuckled, and the sound reverberated through her, right down to her toes. She stiffened and blushed furiously. "Um…. Thank you. You can put me down now" "We're already close to your room so I don't see the need. Besides you like here in my arms. No need to pretend." Selena wriggled in his arms, trying to get him to put her down. But his arms were as strong as lead and they held her in place. She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. "You know, you're not so different from my six year old niece." "Are you implying that I'm immature?" She was royally pissed. "Not at all," his voice was laced with amusement. He got to the room and dumped her unceremoniously on the bed. "Jerk" Selena spat out before thinking. Her eyes widened as she realized she had just called her boss a jerk to his face. "I've been called worse," he replied. "I'm sorry" she murmured. "I love the feisty you better. You can sleep or freshen up or do whatever it is you girls do. I'll be downstairs if you need me. In any way." He winked and sauntered off. Despite herself, she smiled and turned to observe her new room. It was spacious and almost everything was in the color pink! Even the air conditioner! The bed which had a pink princess canopy bed frame with pink curtains was covered in a pink bedsheet. Any macho man would die before dawn if he was forced to sleep here. No wonder Gabriel had looked quite pale when they had entered. She thought. She walked to the bathroom enjoying the feel of the plain pink rug beneath her feet. She opened the sliding door and the first thing she noticed was the full length mirror. The previous occupant must have loved to admire her body during a bath. Selena concluded. Finally a bathtub of her own. Selena was elated. She didn't mind this time that it was also in pink.
