CHAPTER 4
THIRSTY FOR REVENGE
“Sorry. “I didn’t mean to say that.” She apologized without hesitation.
“Feel comfortable. I'll get one of the maids to attend to you.” He said, gesturing for her to sit on the long couch.
“Elissa,” he stopped midway through the stairs and turned.
“If you and the baby need my attention, don't hesitate to contact me,” he added.
Soon, a middle-aged woman descended the stairs. Her eyes widened in a smile as she sighted Elissa and the baby, as if she'd known them before.
“Oh, good morning. You're welcome to the Lopez mansion, ma'am. I'm Lawrencia. But you can call me Lawren, just like others do,” the woman said, gladly spreading her arms around the little baby in Elissa's hands.
Lawren couldn't keep her eyes off the handsome little fellow.
Actually, little Daniel's good looks has been exceptional since from birth.
He has cute large eyes with clear dimples whenever he smiles, making him the most loved baby in the orphanage.
“Thanks for the warm welcome, ma'am. I'm Elissa. Elissa Morgan.”
“Okay. Do you have any special preference for food? Feel free to tell me. That's my work; the chief cook and the head of the domestic staff of the Lopez mansion. So, satisfying your cravings is my satisfaction.” Lawren added, and they both laughed as she showed Elissa to the kitchen.
“Let me get the cleaner to show you around the house and to your room.” Lawren said, calling out one of the domestic staff.
After some minutes, a young lady approached from the back door, her calm expression suddenly disappearing at the sight of Elissa and the little child.
“Follow me.” She instructed, not even granting Elisa a chance to exchange pleasantries.
After a long walk through the corridor, the lady tossed her hands into her pocket and suddenly stopped at an iron door.
“Here's your room.” The lady said, her voice coerced and unfriendly.
“Ok. Thank you.”
Without a blink, the lady turned her back to move, then suddenly stopped midway.
“That reminds me. Everyone lives by rules in this mansion. So, for yours. She paused and moved closer, her arms wrapped around her chest.
“First, you have no right whatsoever to go close to Mr. George. Whatever you need from him, you must pass through me.
Second, you must do as I say.
Because, with just one word from me to Mr. George about your bad attitude, you're out on the street, or maybe, in jail. Understand?” The lady sneered.
Elissa breathed heavily and nodded, clenching her fist to maintain a steady voice.
“Okay. I'm Elissa Morgan. You?” Elissa said, pulling out a faint smile as she stretched forth her hands for a shake..
“What audacity!” The lady cursed.
“Who do you think you are that made you fit to have a touch of my hands? Listen. I have been working here for the past eight years, and I possess every quality that Mr. George wants in a woman. In fact, I'm the family's favorite domestic staff, and it didn't only stop at that; I'm their soon-to-be daughter-in-law! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!” She chuckled with a wicked smirk, then replaced her expression suddenly with a frown.
“Now, let me sound this as a warning to you: if you think you've come with some false claim of having a child for Mr. George, I want you to know that many ladies have done that, and they failed.”
“I'm not surprised.” Elissa remarked reluctantly, her voice barely above a whisper.
After all, from the first moment she left psychiatric, she has made up her mind to endure and tolerate anything until she can give her son a comfortable life
“Another thing…” Elissa couldn't wait for the lady to finish her statement before she cut in.
“Can I at least go into my room now? You've since been talking like some automated parrot. Do you really think this is the kind of quality that Mr. George needs from a woman? If I were you…” Before Elissa could land with her statement, the lady's hands were up in the air, striking down directly at Elissa's cheeks. But before she landed the slap, Elissa held her hands up in the air tightly.
“Don't you dare!” Elissa warned, her bloodshot eyes scourging with anger.
“I can tolerate anything, you know. But your greatest mistake would be you lifting a finger on me!” she added.
“We shall see. Once I'm done with you, you'll always know your place the moment you hear the mention of Louisa.” The lady threatened, forcefully snapping the keys from Elissa and pushing her in as she opened the door.
Before Elissa could react, Louisa had turned the keys to lock the door immediately. While she stood outside, her ears leaned to the door as she listened to Elissa's scream.
“Miss Louisa! You brought me to the wrong room! There's no bed here! This place is more likely a*****e!” Elissa cried.
The lady chuckled.
“I would have given you a room worse than that, if there were to be any.” She snarled and left.
“Please, I’m sorry. I promise I won't talk back to you again. Please, just give me a comfortable place for the sake of my innocent son!” Elissa cried; but all her screams fell on deaf ears.
Around 9pm, George was taking a leisurely walk round the corridors of the house when he suddenly heard a persistent scream from the store side.
“Hey, what is going on here?” he mumbled as he moved closer.
Immediately, Louisa stormed out from one of the guest rooms, looking all panicked as she approached the store.
“Sir, please, have you seen miss Elissa anywhere around your room? I just brought her the baby diapers that you ordered, and she's nowhere to be found in the room I showed her!”
“Really?” George raised his brows in confusion.
“Could she be the one screaming here?” George suggested
.
Quickly, Louisa brought out the store keys to let Elissa out.
“Hey, Miss Lissa. I've been looking for you two all over the mansion. What brought you here?” She asked, her voice soft and calm as an angel.
Elissa was speechless.
Louisa's pretense was worse than the devil's.
“Sorry, sir. I'm sure she was trying to find
her way to the kitchen when she ended up being here.” she added, then turned her gaze at Elisa.
“Next time, don't hesitate to call me for any assistance, Miss Elissa.” She added, rolling her eyes with a devilish smile as she watched Mr. George walk back to his room.
“You see. I've told you that Mr. George would believe anything I said. Good you were smart enough to remain quiet to his questions, little dog!” Louisa chuckled.
For months, Elissa stayed with endurance in the Lopez mansion. Even though Mr. Lopez granted her free access to his attention, she couldn't afford to report any staff to cost them their job.
After all, she had made up her mind from the beginning to endure anything for the sake of her little son until she finally stood on her feet again.
At the Lopez enterprise, Elissa worked tirelessly, ignoring the disastrous gossips of her colleagues until she was able to gradually win Mr. Lopez’s heart to earn a promotion to his personal assistant after two years of working as his secretary.
Her impacts in the company cannot be compared to even those that have worked as his secretary and assistant for ten years.
Since she has once handled a company in the Morgan's family, leading the Lopez group to the top with her innovative ideas was not a hard deal to get for her.
In less than three years, she has helped George accomplish his dream of extending the Lopez enterprise to different towns in New York, including Texas, where the Carters own almost all of the leading companies.
One day, Elissa was approaching from afar when she unknowingly caught the other ladies discussing her with absolute bitterness.
“We know her type. They can do anything dirty with their bosses to get a promotion.”
“Sure, some sources said that she's not just some random employee but the boss’s baby mama.” Deborah suggested.
“I doubt that. Mr. Lopez is not into women! What do you think she possesses to make Mr. Lopez fall for her classless type?” Jane asked.
“Well, I've come too far to allow another lady to make the boss take his eyes off me! I swear, I don't care about the consequences, but I'll go to any extent to make sure that the boss kicks her out of this company! It's either I climb to the position of the future Mrs. Lopez or no woman else!” Maya concluded.
“Don't worry. I'm not competing with any of you. Good luck with your hard work, Maya.” Elissa said, pulling out a wicked smirk as she walked past the ladies.
They were speechless.
Throughout that day, the four ladies felt like the ground should open up and swallow them just to avoid any contact with Elissa.
Just after their gossip, Elissa bumped into Mr. George, who was waiting at her door with some envelopes in his hand.
“I'm sorry for coming late, sir.” She stuttered, her voice trembling in fear.
She knows how much her boss hates lateness to work, and if there's anything she has prioritized in this job, it is to maintain a good record in the eyes of Mr. George.
“Elissa. How about you leave this company by next week?” he said, his voice stern and emotionless.
Elissa was speechless.
She didn't know when tears started rolling off her eyes as she replayed those words in her mind.
Where will she start from after leaving this place?
She hasn't acquired enough to live the life that she wants before striking the Carters! She cried.
“Or, have Maya and her gang succeeded in their plot?” She thought to herself.
“Come on. You should be glad instead, Elissa. Take a look at the content first! Or… don't you want to get back at the Carters again? This is the opportunity you've always wanted, right?” George asked, his lips parting in a wide smile as he watched her unseal the envelope.
