Knocking on the hard wood door in front of me, I glanced around again. Ever since that day, I was nervous, constantly on edge.
It’s as if my brain couldn’t comprehend the fact that I had witnessed a man killing people and had gotten away unscathed. well, apart from the scar on my chest, a clear reminder that I still exist in this miserable world.
I had a lot of time to think about it, and my conclusion was that they were gangsters. And Alpha was their gang leader.
It’s not unheard of, and there was once a time I had briefly contemplated joining a gang but well I was just too uninterested in anything consigning life. And joining a gang was more work than my body could handle.
The door screeched open, a lanky man stood in front of me, leering down at me.
“What do you want Tonic?” he spat out.
“The usual Nic, please I have money this time.” I dug into my new Jean trouser I had stolen, bringing out 50 dollars.
Nic eyed me for a while, his glare softening at the sight of the wrinkled 50 dollars note.
He opened the door wider, walking inside.
I followed quickly, anticipation already making me giddy.
Ever since meeting Alpha, I was hungry. And it’s not about eating. Or maybe it really was just hunger. I mean living like I did, it wasn’t every time I was graced with good food.
No, it’s this unexplainable hunger I really can’t describe.
The house was dirty, a few people that had given up on life like me littered about.
Nic opened another door, gesturing for me to enter inside.
I walked inside, looking around. This was more better, a bit clean.
I sat on the sofa close to the window, anxious.
“So how have you been?” Nic asked, rummaging through his bed side drawer.
“Fine, I guess.” i responded, staring at the posters of different bands he had hung up on the walls.
I sighed, envisioning that one day, i could have a room like this, designed it how I wanted. Maybe even have a nice clean job.
At the sight of the drug in Nic’s hands, all that thought was swept away, the only thought in my brain was how I couldn’t wait to get high.
Nic sat beside me on the sofa, his legs pressing into mine.
I watched him as he melted the heroine, already pushing up the sleeves of my hoodie.
Another thing that was surprising was the fact that no one had asked me about the dead bodies.
It was a good thing, but still very strange. After the rain, I had gone to where Crawford body had been, but everything was clean, no police tape, no evidence, nothing.
The street was silent, almost like what happened that night hadn’t occurred.
If not for the bullet scar on my chest, I honestly would have believed I hallucinated the whole thing.
Wouldn’t be the first time the drugs convinced me of something that didn’t actually happen.
Nic prepared everything, holding my hand, before injecting the liquid into my veins.
I relaxed my back on the sofa, stretching my legs as the drugs greedily ran through my veins, straight to my brain.
I moan lowly, smiling as my body tinged.
I watched as Nic injected himself also, leaning back on the sofa like me.
The room was quiet, the distant sounds of music coming from the walls.
“Do you ever wish for more?” Nic asked softly, breaking the nice quietness.
I groan, already knowing what followed.
Everybody reacted to the drugs differently. For me I prefer the silence, letting the drugs pump through my vein, silence my mind.
But Nic was different. He always went into this weird state where he questioned his existence.
I can’t say I blame him. I mean whoever abandoned me should have just killed me instead, rather than damming me to this cruel fate.
But then again, I choose this part, not that there was any other part to choose from.
Nic on the other hand came from a stable home, with two functional parents and an older sibling I think. He went to a good school, had everything. Unfortunately he was disowned when his parents caught him sucking his classmates d**k, and here we are, two drugged out freaks.
“Honestly Nic.., I can’t wait to die. I don’t think it would get better because I know it won’t. This is all there is to life for us.”
Nic sighed, sitting up. He prepared another hit, but this time he added a red substance.
“What’s that?” I asked him, eyeing the red stuff.
“Honestly Tonic i didn’t really ask. All i know is this stuff is dope, makes the high five times stronger. I mean the first time I tried it, my God…..”
“How much if I wanna try?” I asked, cutting him off. I didn’t need any more convincing. That it was stronger was all I needed to hear.
“This stuff is rare, and expensive. You can’t avoid it, but since I like you, and it’s been a while, maybe we could play around.”
“Ok,” I agreed immediately.
Nic smiled. “You need to relax, free your mind. This stuff is really strong Tonic. No joke.”
“Come on Nic stop stalling. I can handle it.”
Nic sighed out softly, before moving closer, injecting the mixed drugs into my hands.
I gasped, my eyes rolling to the back of my head as the drugs pumped through my veins, spreading fast through my whole body.
I gritted my teeth, trying to relax like Nic said, but my heart was beating fast, the rhyme pounding through my skull.
“Relax Tonic…, don’t fight it.” I could hear Nics voice, but it was like the voice was far far away.
I moaned loudly, tugging at my hoodie.
I was hot, i could feel the sweat dripping from my body.
I pulled my hoodie off, turning to face Nic who was already watching me.
“Told you that s**t was strong,” Nic growled out.
Suddenly it’s as if i could hear Alpha growls, that nauseous feeling coming back strong. But more than that, I was hungry, very hungry.
“Something’s wrong Nic… I don’t,” I winced, trying to lower my voice. I was shouting, or was I?
Nic pushed me back on the sofa, climbing on top off me as he kissed my neck.
I moan, writhing under him. I could hear his heartbeat, the loud sound making my mouth water.
My stomach growled loudly, the room spinning.
I could see myself, tearing into a small boy, refusing to let go as I drank his blood, old Betty screaming at me to stop.
I moaned loudly, my veins tingling, my toes curling in pleasure as I sank my teeth into Nic’s neck.
Faintly I could hear him asking me to stop, but his blood was so sweet, I drank greedily, shaking as I held his struggling body closer.
I was hallucinating. Whatever that s**t was, this was the f*****g last time I took it.
I passed out, utterly exhausted but filled up, that snarking hunger gone.
I groaned, my mouth was dry, I blinked slowly.
“Nic…, s**t I had the weirdest hallucinations. What the f**k kind of drug was that?” I grumbled out, holding my head.
The room was silent. I sat up, wondering why I was on the floor.
I raised my hand up, freezing at the red substance covering my hands.
I stood up sharply, gasping as I took in the sight of the room.
Blood, everywhere. But what was worse, was the sight of Nic.
He lay on top the bed, naked. His eyes were open, frozen in shock, his skin was white, and from here, i could tell how cold he would be.
The bedsheets was covered in blood, as I was.
I walked closer, refusing to believe what I already knew was true.
Nic.., Nic.., I whispered out shakily, walking to the bed.
I touched his neck, no sign of life.
His neck was torn open, and my hallucinations flashed before my eyes.
I remember myself, tearing into Nic’s neck.
No, no. I am hallucinating. This isn’t real.
Quickly, I opened up his wardrobe, I stripped, wearing Nics clothes.
I looked around, snatching up his backpack. I shove my own bloody clothes inside, cleaning myself as best as I can. Luckily for me, everyone in this house are drugged up. They probably didn’t hear his screams, if at all I gave the poor man enough time to scream.
I gathered the remaining drugs and that red substance, opening the door lightly.
The hallway was silent. I sneaked out, praying that nobody notice me.
Immediately I got to the door, I wrenched it open, before running off.
I couldn’t stay here anymore, i still can’t process what happened, but very soon the police would be alerted to Nics body, I needed to be far away from the town by then.
I ran all the way to the alleyway, shoving everything I owned into my backpack.
And without looking back, I start the long journey out of this godforsaken town, only this time, I was a killer.
A sick murderous psychopath like old Betty had called me.
