I have been on the run for three days now, last I saw the news, the murder was still under investigation, police describing the scene as disturbing.
Luckily everyone was too drugged out to have actually seen me clearly which means I wasn’t in any immediate danger.
Still, I couldn’t shake away the dread coiling deep within my stomach.
I grabbed a pack of Cheerios, handing the girl at the counter 2 dollars, before walking towards the restroom. I don’t know where I was, hitchhiking rides and whatnot till I got to this town.
Welcome to cherry Greek had been written boldly on the signboard. I had scoffed, shaking my head before marching inside, this rundown gas station was the first thing I saw, a warning sign that I had once again found myself in a shitty place.
Hopefully this time around I could maybe find one of those shelter homes, maybe find a job. I owed it to Nic.
Locking the toilet stall, I bring down the toilet seat, sitting on it.
A part of me still believes all this to be an hallucination. I have heard of people staying in an hallucination for days, and God knows what the f**k it was Nic gave me.
I hoped any moment now, I would wake up, yell at Nic for the drugs, and then laugh with him about everything.
I wouldn’t describe Nic as my friend, but still he was someone I had known since I was twelve. I can’t believe I killed him.
No, no… I refuse to think about that s**t now.
I opened up my backpack, bringing out the heroine I had. My hands briefly touching that red stuff.
I shut my bag close, breathing out deeply. I don’t know why I grabbed the drugs and that stuff, but ever since that day, that red stuff called to me. The hunger was back now, and it was really bad.
I pushed up my sleeve, ignoring the marks littered on my skin. Instead I found another spot, injecting the liquid inside my veins.
Sighing out in relief, I packed up the remaining drugs, taking note of the fact that I needed to find a supplier. I was in a new town, I had to start all over again.
Standing up, i stagger a bit, shaking my head to clear my vision. Lately I felt dizzy, but as quickly as it came, was just as quickly as it left.
I opened up the door, tearing into my pack of Cheerios, stuffing the chips into my mouth.
The cashier was busy with some people, and I used that opportunity to steal some necessary stuffs.
After that I sneaked out. Standing outside, I was confused on which direction to take. After contemplating, i decided to go right.
I don’t know how long I walked, but the beeping sound behind me made me stop.
A black sleek car stopped in front of me, the glass rolling down to reveal a beautiful lady.
“Hello…, are you lost?” she asked, her soft beautiful voice a calm comfort.
“Not really, new in town and stuff like that. Can you maybe direct me to any shelter home for the homeless?”
The woman stared at me for a while, and I sighed wondering why I even stopped in the first place.
I turned, about to walk away but she called out to me.
“Wait.., sorry I just. Yes, I have a spare room, run one of the high end bars in this town. I could give it to you if you need somewhere to stay. It’s nothing fancy.”
I eyed her, moving back a bit. Why would she just offer up a place to a complete stranger?
Shit, this was one of those kidnapping scheme wasn’t it. Just my luck, out of all the towns I passed, I wondered why I had decided to stop in this one.
“What’s in it for you?” I asked, taking note of the sleek car in front of me.
“Free labor.” she says, laughing a bit at my expression. “I mean, I need a bar man, a cleaner, you can choose whichever you are comfortable with, and I give you a room in return, and since I feel generous, give you 20 percent of what’s supposed to be your salary, you know for feeding and stuff.”
My mouth was probably open, drool dripping out as golden opportunity stood in front of me.
I wasn’t picky, neither did I have that sense of danger.
I walked towards the side door, knocking on it. She opened up, and I entered the car, the cold ac blasting my face.
“The name is Misty Black. What’s yours?” She asked, glancing briefly at me.
“Tonic. Just Tonic. So Misty, do you pick up random strangers everyday?”
“No,” Misty says, chuckling a bit. “But I saw you, and I don’t know, you look like you needed someone to help you. This might sound strange, but something in you called out to me.”
I sighed, that’s exactly what old Betty had said, look how that turned out.
I didn’t care, as long as I get a room, a good job and that 20 percent, then I was good to go. Who knows, maybe life could be bright for once.
True to her words, Misty actually owned a bar, a nice bar. And yes, she had a small room upstairs. It was dusty, packed with stuffs Misty said I could throw away or keep for myself.
I was also now a bar man, even though I knew s**t about mixing drinks. Honestly i could have gone for the cleaner position, too late now.
After teaching me some stuff, introducing me to some of the workers, Misty left me alone to arrange my new space.
Shit…. I breathe out, taking in the small room now cleaned up.
A small bed was pushed to the side, opposite the open window, my backpack at the far end.
I couldn’t believe it, all these still felt like a dream, like I was on the sidelines, watching myself. From living behind a dumpster, to being a killer on the run, and now a space of my own, with a good job. I mean, life couldn’t get any better.
I burst out laughing, rolling on the floor in giddiness.
I tried to sleep, but I couldn’t, too anxious about starting work.
Finally, at precisely 10:0clock, I start getting ready.
Staring at the water pouring out in waves from the shower head, I hesitated. I don’t know if it was fear, or the fact that I would officially be taking my bath for the first time in a long time.
Slowly, I step into the shower, gasping as the water cascades down my body, washing away years of grime, dirt, shame and Nic’s blood.
I use the shampoo, scrubbing and scrubbing my hair, before washing my body thoroughly.
When I was finally done, I stared at myself in the mirror, taking in my face.
My hair was back to its blonde state, my blue eyes, shining back. My face was thinner now, unfortunately I still haven’t gotten facial hair, but that contributed to my baby face. My lips was chapped, and I licked it, trying to moisturize it a bit.
I brushed my teeth, refusing to spend time looking at myself like a girl.
After that, I put on my uniform, a simple white shirt, with black trousers.
I sighed, looking through my bag for the pills I kept there. I know, I shouldn’t start my first day with drugs, but if I was going to be serving drunk assholes all night, I needed my happy pills.
I swallowed the drugs, before leaving my room, making sure I locked it.
The bar was filled up already, loud music echoing everywhere. I walked towards the bar, tapping on it to alert the boy Jason was it to my presence.
“Wow…, you clean up nice.” Jason says, his eyes wandering my body.
I smile. “Thank you, now I need to warn you, I don’t know the first thing about being a bartender, and I hope you could teach me.”
“Sure, Misty already told us. Anyways come over here, let me teach you the basics.”
I went round back, entering from the door marked staff only.
Jason taught me the basics, and being a fast learner, it wasn’t hard to understand.
Infact, it was more simple than I thought. Soon enough we were both busy, serving the customers coming in.
The drugs was blasting through my body, the music amplifieing it.
I lean on the counter, discussing with my new favorite customer.
“You know for a guy, you really are pretty.” Williams slurred out, his hands lightly rubbing mine.
I chuckled, eyeing him. It’s been a long time I had s*x, and I needed money if I wanted to start my new life properly.
“You know, you aren’t too bad yourself will…” I say slowly, winking at him.
“One short of tequila please.” a thick deep voice called out, the sound vibrating through my body.
I turned, freezing at the dark green eyes staring at me.
Alpha…
What the f**k was he doing here?
