After doing the hideous act on his son Martins, Pierre left to a neighboring town, changing his physical appearance drastically as he was aware that he was being tracked. He wore also a helmet and physical moustache
Starr was the name of the town. 4hrs journey on foot from Pierre’s own town. It had developed places and suburban areas too. He went for the latter to take cover for the mean time. He luckily found an abandoned house in the bushy area, and had no option than to use it. He sometimes became scared, and felt guilty of what he had done. How would Mary brand him henceforth, what would Hilda take him for. The few friends whom he had would despise, scorn and reject him if they ever saw him again. He slowly drifted into a sober mood. He remembered his parents and then a sudden anger swept through him again. He would make sure he was the last of their generation or lineage since he wasn’t useful to them. He became more confident, the new son must be killed before he loses track of him.
The house wasn’t as creaky as he was expecting it to be. He didn’t know why people would abandon such a place.
He went to shut the door. He went inner into the structure to see the remaining part of the house. It wasn’t bad at all. There were three bedrooms and a sittings room and a kitchen. Everywhere was dusty, and it all seemed like the house had been abandoned for close to 5 yrs.
He was getting hungry and decided to go outside to see if he could find fruits or so.
Few meters away there was a mango tree that was tactically planted along the route to the house, but it had many over ripe fruits. Everything was just so weird, people didn’t pluck much of the fruits at all. A lot of rotten ones where on the floor. He began climbing.
As he climbed the tree, something stung him. It was an ant, but there were yet others on his body, what had he done.
Pierre writhed In pains, as he tried regaining balance, he was about falling off.
No, he clung steadfastly to the tree. He managed to get most of the Ants off his body, he hurriedly got three ripe fruits and went back into the house in discomfort.
He was also thirsty, he was really going through hell. He went back in.
All other doors had been so easy to open, he would push them open and quickly have a view of the room and leave for the next the third and last room
Seemed so different. It wasn’t dusty at all, and he could see a kind of liquid coming out from under the door. It was almost noon. The handle of the door showed finger prints, indicating that someone had been there too. He couldn’t estimate the exact moment of the strange individuals presence, but he knew for sure that he would soon have company. He held the handle firmly and tried opening the door. Halfway it seems like it was opening and then something prevented it from inside. He pushed forcefully by the door wouldn’t open beyond that extent. He decided to peer through the little opening which the door had made.
Human hands, Human legs, Skeletons and someone who was hanged in the middle of the room. The person had been stabbed, his blood was dripping down till the door. That was the liquid he had seen.
A speechless Pierre didn’t know what to do next. He froze instantly, he couldn’t shout, scream laugh, cry. Nothing. He wasn’t sacred was he ? He had killed someone not quite long ago, it shouldn’t be a new thing to him. He turned to leave. He had to decide on what next to do, he wasn’t really sure of continuing to live in the house for a little more time. He could be the next scape goat.
A hard object landed on his head. He fainted.
………………………………………………
She had no parents too. Immediately after forcing her to marry a stranger she never heard from them again. She resorted to run to her hometown to see them.
But they were dead already. She would never forgive herself. Even though she was angry with them, she shouldn’t have ignored them totally.
As at then mary was so angry with her parents, they had apologized a trillion times telling her that they had to obey the custom of the land, which made them to give her out in marriage to one from the neighboring village.
She swore never to reach out to them again. Of course everyone would do such a thing. Marrying one who you never felt for. Not even once. She was with Hilda and Little baby Nissan at the doorstep, knocking and calling their names, but there wasn’t any reply. Other neighbors who had noticed the figures standing there for many minutes came and explained the whole thing to them.
“Your parents became so sober as soon as the marriage ceremony was concluded. They had been blindfolded by the custom of the land, and they began regretting what they had done. The worse part is that they didn’t even know where you lived with your husband the city. They would never forgive themselves. The ones who had encouraged them to carry on this customary rites had all disappeared and had all done their own wedding ceremonies privately. Your mum believed in true love, but she was scared of opening up to her husband. She was so scared of him, because he was authoritative, he wouldn’t want to listen to her. Some months later your dad found out that he belonged to a cursed family, and that’s when your mums illness grew worse. She died of hypertension after leaving a letter for you to read. Her husband died some weeks later, because he couldn’t bear being alone.”
The old lady was also in tears as she was narrating the event to Mary. She gave her the letter from her late mum.
The house had been locked for months now. And she had the liberty to live in it if she wanted. Everyone looked at her in pity.
But no she wouldn’t want that.
She didn’t want to be the center of sympathetic attraction.
She would also want to give her Late parents respect by leaving the home untouched as a remembrance of them whenever she came by to see other villagers.
She went behind the house where they were buried. Nissan was still asleep, being carried by his mum on her back.
Hilda held close to momma’s hand.
Mary wept.
Hilda, had been feeling bad ever since everything had started back at home. She would never forgive dad as she had vowed. She felt so bad seeing her mother in pains.
She longed to be of age. She would avenge the death of her brother, the pains of her mother and then would she be at peace.
“Dear Mary, words are hard for me to express my pains. I’m really sorry for allowing your dad put you in this terrible situation. Marrying you into a cursed family where none of the male children are expected to survive, I just hope this doesn’t follow you and your kids. Please forgive me. And teach your kids the right thing. Make them believe in true love and not custom.”
They left for another town that same day.
