“What did you say?” I jerked away, but he just laughed softly. “So, do you agree?” he asked, his tone teasing. “No way!” I exclaimed, resolutely moving toward the door. “Where are you going, cupcake?” he called after me. “I’m going to tell Mom and Dad everything and sort things out with the principal tomorrow,” I said, determined. “And what about the pain I endured? Will you still be happy after that?” he asked, reminding me of the scars on his back. The thought of his suffering made me hesitate. He always seemed to have the upper hand.
