When we got home, Martha left, though she had promised to stay until evening. She barely looked at Mavis. Was she so frightened? “So, here is our new home,” I said, attempting to break the ice. “Not bad. So where is everybody?” he asked. “It’s Saturday, so Mom is at the shop, and Dad is at work, though he’ll be back soon.” Dad rarely works on Saturdays, he said he had something to do at the office. Mavis simply nodded and began moving around the house. “So, where’s my room?” Mavis asked. I showed him, and he thanked me before going inside.
