The dirt was everywhere. In her eyes, in her nose, in her ears. And, when something touched the inside of her ankle and she parted her lips to scream, there the dirt was in her mouth too. Her hands clawed outward, reaching uselessly toward the air her lungs no longer needed, but her mind craved. As the panic began to subside, she slowly dragged herself forward. She managed to move only a few inches before the soil shifted, pinning her body in place. Instantly, the panic returned, making it impossible for her to think, let alone move for several agonizing minutes. It felt like hours had passed before she was able to break free of her rancid entombment.
