Chapter three

542 Words
Alexis POV I strolled out of my Boss’s office with a large frown on my face. I sank into my office chair as I wondered how and why my Boss would suggest that I find him a fashion store. It was very strange and the first time he had sent me on an errand that wasn’t work-related. I sighed deeply and made up my mind to take my mind away from the thoughts and instead, focus on getting the job done. At this, I logged into several websites, searching for stores that suited the perfect taste of the Boss. Going down memory lane, I struggled financially until I got lucky to get picked as the assistant some months ago. The money I earned was able to sort out my daily expenses and needs and after a while, I discovered that I was on my way to financial freedom. However, just a month ago, I got a distress call that informed me of the ill health of my mother. At first, I shoved it off as a minor illness until the day of her diagnosis. It was revealed that she had a kidney problem that required urgent attention. The doctor had said that the only way to keep her alive was through a transplant, which would cost about five hundred thousand dollars. At first, I had thought I was only having a nightmare until days passed, and it kicked in as reality. I earned a minimum of two thousand dollars in a month, and it would take me ages to save up until I get to five hundred thousand. It was currently a critical stage in my life, but I kept living while hoping that everything turns out well in no time. “This should go!” I said to myself as I went through the series of outfits I had just come across on a fashion website. There were two things on my mind currently; I either pick one I liked for him or leave him to make the selection. The Boss had different rules, many of which I considered to be weird, awkward, and irrelevant. The day I started working in the company, he summoned me to his office, where he broke down his rules. “Firstly, there shall be no informal discussion or communication ensuing between the both of us”, he said while I nodded my head in understanding. The first rule seemed to be understandable, and I had no problem with it. “Secondly, you can’t get pregnant while you work here. Once it’s discovered that you are carrying a child, you would lose your job”, he had said while my jaws dropped in surprise. That was the oddest thing I ever heard someone say and as such, I had tried to refute it. “I am not convinced that’s correct, sir. I mean, getting pregnant is a part of life and maternity leave or excuse can be granted to someone in that situation”, I had tried to debunk his thoughts when he shot me a death glare. “My rules are my rules. And you must obey my rules if you want to remain here”, he had said in finality.
