The CEO's Surrogate

Chapter five

We are here again! I had no idea of how to feel or react to the situation.

The last time I had seen Nathan was the day he was made CEO.

I felt great resentment toward him since then, as my thoughts were focused on me becoming the new CEO.

It ached my heart badly, especially because I felt that I was smarter and more intelligent than Nathan would ever be.

He was my older brother, but I didn't give a damn about it.

My mother and I suffered for a long time, being ignored by my Dad and trying to sort out means to survive.

Meanwhile, Nathan was the son who had everything he wished to ever own.

He had the privilege, even from a very young age, and that made me feel extremely pained and hurt.

“If I eventually enter the family, I would make sure everything is mine!” I had always said to myself in certainty.

For months and years, I tried to persuade my mother to take me to my father's house, since she always told me how wealthy his family is.

However, she always shoved it aside with talks like

“I can't do that! He denied you and abandoned us. I won't bring down my pride to go beg him to accept us”, she would always reply, with tears trickling down her eyes.

Seeing my mum in tears always aches my heart and the day she finally summoned up the courage to go to the Brown house, I was certain that the change we wanted to be had finally come.

“How have you been?” Nathan asked sternly, looking at me as though I were a kid.

“Very much better, especially because my grandmother is beginning to see what she didn’t before”, I replied with a smirk while his jaws dropped in shock.

“Well, I have no idea of what you are talking about and as such, I would be on my way inside”, Nathan said with a fake grin as he gestured to James who sauntered behind him.

“Hold up! Dear brother, why are you rushing? Are you trying to escape from me?” I asked tauntingly, enjoying how restless I made him become.

“Run away from you? Why would I do that? I’m the eldest son, and I’m certain my presence is needed inside already”, he said with pride, causing me to scoff in disdain.

“Your presence! Ohh! Pardon me, I forgot that you hold the position of the CEO currently”, I said sarcastically and broke into loud laughter.

“Have a nice day”, Nathan said and hurriedly walked past me, intentionally brushing me off in the process.

“I hope you don’t have a nice day!” I replied as I looked around to ensure that no one heard me.

After a while, I walked into the house majestically, waving at the employees who bowed their heads in respect.

I never got to witness such respect for a long time in my life and at this point, all I required was more.

The only way I could get that was definitely through becoming the CEO.

I smiled brightly at Nathan, who rolled his eyes at me and focused his eyes on his phone.
