Chapter 3

Seeing that I did not speak, Julian sighed deeply. A helpless exhaustion appeared in his eyes. He took a step forward, wanting to reach out and touch my face. He looked as if he were trying to soothe a spoiled wife who was throwing a tantrum. I immediately turned my head and avoided him. His hand froze in midair, but his tone remained gentle. "Marina, do you really have to hurt our relationship this way? I'll handle the crew's compensation through the company accounts. You don't need to come here and make a scene. You look terrible. Did you catch a chill after soaking in the seawater? Come back with me. I'll make you some hot soup." Disgusting. He was holding a grand banquet here for Nina. And after I had narrowly survived death, all I could get was a bowl of hot soup. Just then, Nina suddenly stepped forward and gently tugged at the corner of my coat. "Marina, don't be angry with Julian. How about this? I'll give you my slot for the Blue Hole Expedition as an apology. I know you've always wanted to go to the Blue Hole Ruins." She sounded wronged and understanding. But from an angle Julian could not see, her fingers pressed right against the spot where I had just pulled out the needle. Pain exploded instantly. My face turned pale at once. But she leaned close to my ear and said softly, "Marina, Julian already gave me the slot for the Blue Hole exploration. With your body in this state, even if you went to the Blue Hole, you would only drag the whole team down." After saying that, she immediately let go and stepped back with reddened eyes. "Marina, don't misunderstand. I'm really not trying to take what belongs to you. I'm just afraid your body won't be able to handle it." Julian's face darkened. "Nina, don't think of Marina as that bad." He looked at me, and his tone already carried reproach. "She's thinking about you." I let out a cold laugh. "Thinking about me? That was the Blue Hole team leader qualification I applied for myself. The route access keys, the deep-dive permit, and the maritime safety assessment are all under my personal authorization. When did it become something she was giving to me?" Julian shielded Nina behind him. "Don't go too far. Nina has psychological trauma from her fear of the deep sea. The doctor said she needs to complete a Blue Hole Observation before she can truly move past it. You're already an experienced team leader. What's wrong with giving her the slot? At worst, I'll approve another route for you later." The surrounding guests all looked over. "Mr. Lawson simply spoils his wife too much." "Miss Sullivan has already apologized, yet she's still being so aggressive." "No wonder Mr. Lawson saved Miss Sullivan first. Who would want to deal with such an unreasonable woman?" Julian heard those words clearly. But he did not stop them. He merely looked at me with a pitying gaze. He was waiting for me to break down. Waiting for me to throw myself into his arms in tears like before, and finally choose to compromise. My nails dug deep into my palm. I forced down the dizziness brought on by excessive blood loss and said, word by word, "I will never give up that slot. All the qualifications and keys for that route are in my hands. You want to take her to the Blue Hole? Fine. Only if I'm dead." Julian's eyes turned completely cold. He leaned close to my ear and lowered his voice. "Marina, don't push me. I don't want to make things too ugly for you in this industry. Tomorrow, in my capacity as president of Lawson Rescue Group, I will suspend your qualification as team leader." He straightened up, adjusted his cuffs, and his tone returned to gentleness. "Go home and reflect on yourself. Come see me again when you've learned to be magnanimous." I looked at him and suddenly laughed. "Julian, you'd better issue tomorrow's suspension notice yourself." He frowned. "What do you mean?" I turned and walked out. "Because that may be your last time ordering me as president."
