Avalon exactly knows when Alexandria is around. He would smell that sweet scent that he smelt before. He could not make a mistake on that smell.
His love for her is so much that he wants to back out on it. He saw how Alexandria became excited when a letter and a package came from her boyfriend. He imagined what her reaction would be if he sends her flowers. What if she would know who he really is, can her parents still accept him? Will she accept him or be scared of him?
Then while Avalon is about to go home one afternoon. He came across Alexandria.
“Good afternoon, Your Highness.”
“Good afternoon, Sir.”
“Your Highness....ahm...can I....?”
“What is it?”
“I know you don’t know me, but I like you a lot. I wanted to court you but I still have hesitations”
The Princess, Alexandria, was standing in front and silently listening to Avalon.
“What are you saying?”
Avalon could have said the truth about himself but instead, he told Alexandria that he still has a girlfriend and they did not formally break up yet.
“So why did you asked the Queen for permission. When you can not fulfill.”
“I will do something about it as soon as possible. I don’t talk to her anymore, I just don’t want the words to come from me.”
The Princess just smirked, shrugged her shoulder, and went her way. Avalon knew that he lost points when he said all those words. But his love was persistent, he wants to take care of her; he wants to try even if it means he will be hurt several times.
Every afternoon, Avalon would visit the King and the Queen. There were times that he would bring something for them, there are days that he would just check on them. The King and the Queen appreciate the gesture so much that they exactly knew he is the man they want for her. It didn’t matter if he was a commoner, what was important is that he cares for her and they know that she will be in good hands.
And in some mornings, Avalon would bring her a rose before he goes to his office.
Alexandria’s birthday is just around the corner. Avalon talked to the Queen since the King is not feeling well.
“Your Highness, I know I don’t have the right, but let me be bolder. Can I date the Princess, your daughter on her birthday? We will just dine together and get to know each other.”
“Yes, you can. She told us that her boyfriend would be coming but we haven’t heard any news of his presence. I will tell her. By the way, she loves Italian food.”
And the Queen winked at Avalon
Avalon nodded and gave respect to the Queen before he went home. As he goes, the Queen asked for her maid of honor to call the Princess Alexandria.
“Yes, mother. Did you call for me? Is everything alright? How is father?”
“He is alright. I called you to ask if your boyfriend is scheduled to come on your birthday? Do you want a party?”
“With father’s condition, I don’t want to celebrate. And no, he is not coming. His boss did not permit him to leave.”
“Even for a Princess?”
“I am not sure if it’s his boss or it’s him.”
The Queen gave Alexandria a hug.
“It’s okay, honey. By the way, Avalon asked our permission if he can date you on that day?”
Alexandria’s face exhibited a negative sight and a manner of bad news for her.
“Okay. Where do you think we’re going?”
“He said he just wants to have dinner with you.”
The weekend came when her cousins visited them. When they were all in the King’s room, one cousin teased Alexandria.
“I heard the King wants you to consider someone.”
“Yeah, and everyone is saying that he is a kind man.”
“I am not sure of him, I do not know the guy and I am not interested. It is a fact that I have a boyfriend and he will be coming so we can get married.”
“Get married? Does the King and the Queen know this?”
With arrogance and defense, Alexandria answered.
“When he comes, he will ask their permission. We will finally be together.”
“Well, what do you say, Your Highness?”
“For me and the King, we are liking Avalon.”
Alexandria looked sternly over her cousins. She knew her boyfriend is not coming and so does the Queen.
Her birthday came and Avalon picked her up at lunchtime. She wore simple clothes, jeans, and a decent blouse. Her bodyguards were several feet away from them so she won’t easily be recognized by people or she will be crammed by people.
Avalon ordered pasta, pizza, calzone, nachos, salad, and desserts.
“Are we having a party? This is a lot.”
“I am sorry, I don’t know what you like so I ordered a lot.”
Alexandria smirked in disgust. She asked Avalon if he will be eating the food. When he said not, she gave some of the food to her bodyguards. What Avalon ordered was good for eight to ten people. On their date, Alexandria was able to tell Avalon that she didn’t like him.
Avalon became sad, but still determined to pursue the Princess. During the night, he was able to tell her that he loves her and is willing to wait until she would say yes. But she turned him down. But he just said, give me the privilege to love and take care of you.
After that date, she called her nanny.
“Nanny Leonila, are they right? I don’t want to make a wrong decision. This is lifetime and I don’t want to get into a divorce or something later on.”
“I think your parents know you and what is good for you. Avalon is sweet and thoughtful. I think his characteristic would fit you.”
“But what about....”
“It’s your decision and your future lies on your present decision.”
“Okay nanny, he brings a single rose on some days, if he brings a bouquet tomorrow, then he is the man for me. But don’t tell anyone, it’s just between you and me.”
“Okay.”
And the night came. In the morning, Alexandria was surprised when she woke up to see a bouquet with a note ‘just let me love you’.
She slapped herself to bring her into reality. Then her nanny came to her room. As she did, she was also surprised.
“Nanny Leonila, did you tell him about our talk last night?”
“I didn’t talk anything about that, not to a single soul.”
“Who did?”
“It was just the two of us Alexandria who knew about it.”
The Princess placed both her hands on her waist feels ng cheated, she made a secret dare again.
“Okay, nanny Leonila. He only brings those chocolates to the King. If he gives me some tomorrow, then it’s really him.”
Nanny Leonila smirked and smiled at her.
The whole day, Alexandria feels that nanny Lenila is telling me ng their secret to Avalon. In reality, nanny Leonila didn't mention anything to anybody.
The next morning came. A single rose and a box of chocolates were given by the guard to nanny Leonila.
Nanny Leonila ran to Alexandria and shrieked in excitement.
“Alexandria, look! Weeee!!”
“Nanny Leonila, are you serious?”
“Yes, the guards gave this to me when I was preparing your food which I forgot to prepare because I was too excited.”
“What is going on?”
Alexandria is feeling that Avalon is her soulmate. Because Alexandria feels that nanny Leonila is talking to Avalon for the wishes she gave, she thought of something else.
“Okay, nanny Leonila. This is the last, I think. If my father would tell me that Avalon is the right guy for me then he is.”
