Chapter Two

UNKNOWN POV: He angrily through his glass against the wall and paced the floor.  “Where could she be?” he wondered aloud.  She hadn’t been at work a few days and he was unable to find out when she was returning.  He knew that her career was an important aspect of her life and she wouldn’t just walk away from it.  The last note and gift he’d left at her apartment were still on the doorstep when he last checked so he didn’t think she had been home.  Most of her friends were pretty private and he had only been able to get remotely close to a few without raising much suspicion but he wasn't close enough to them to blatantly ask about her.  The snippets of information he had heard was that most of her friends "knew" about some of his notes and gifts but no one had any idea it was him.  He couldn't believe after all he had done for her and to show her his love that she would disappear!  If needed, he would find her and he would make sure she never disappeared from him again.  Amelia POV:  My first night at the cabin was more relaxing than I thought.  “I could get use to this” I thought, as the early morning sun coming through the bedroom window was my wake up call.  I sat on the porch drinking my morning coffee enjoying the fresh mountain air.  After finishing, I decide to shower and head to the hospital.  When I arrived at the hospital, I checked into the front desk and was directed to security to obtain my picture ID and parking sticker.  The head security officer was an older gentleman who introduced himself as “William but you can call me Bill”.  He took my picture, made the ID badge, and gave me the parking sticker for my jeep.  He then provided me with directions to the emergency department so I could introduce myself and get my bearings.   I did a cursory walk through of the department and met several employees.  It is definitely a much smaller hospital than what I left but everyone seems to work as a team and patients appear to be well taken care of.  I was eager to get started but my first shift wasn’t for three more days so I decided to take full advantage and spend time around town but first there were things to do around the cabin.  First however, is a much needed phone call to my mother.  Hopefully it would be a much better conversation than those over the last several months.  As I sat on the back porch in a rocking chair, I replayed the phone call with my mom realizing that it calmed me even more than being out of the city already had.  My mom almost always knows what to say in any situation and I could really use a hug from her.  As much as I wanted to visit with my mom, she thought that was the first place my stalker would look for me except at work.  My mom said she would come visit as soon as they both thought it was safe but for now, phone calls would have to do.  Her She had also been in touch with the detective regarding my case and there was no new information.  They didn’t seem to be any closer to finding out what the name of my stalker was than when I had first made the report.   “It sounded like mom is keeping something from me” but quickly squashed the thought. “If it were important, my mom would tell me.”   Cora's (Amelia's Mom) POV: Cora hung up with her daughter and contemplated in the less than 4 days her daughter had quickly relocated, how relaxed Amelia sounded.  It was a significant change from the last few months although Cora did believe that Amelia might never have returned to the cabin if the stalker hadn’t shown up.  “Was it fate or destiny?” she wondered out loud.  Amelia was blissfully unaware of the family’s history and Cora had kept her protected to give her a “normal” life.  If the stalker hadn’t shown up, Cora wouldn’t even be thinking about this.  Only time would tell and Cora could only hope for Amelia’s safety and that no one would recognize her from her childhood. Amelia's POV: After getting off the phone, I made dinner and then sat on the back porch to watch the sunset.  It was oddly satisfying after living most of my life in the city how much I enjoyed the peace and quiet.  Tomorrow I would explore the cabin in depth including the bookshelf full of old novels and picture albums.  It was strange that I had some memories of being here during my childhood but not once since middle school.  Of course, I was busy by then with studying and extracurricular activities so I never gave it a second thought.  Now though, I wondered why it seemed as though my mother kept me away or at least, never encouraged my visiting. “Perhaps it was because I never asked to visit” and I pushed it to the back of my mind deciding to ask mom the next time we spoke.   Alex's POV: As Amelia sat on the back porch, she didn’t feel the two sets of eyes staring at her from the tree line. Patrolling was not everyone’s favorite chore but it was a necessity for the pack’s safety so Alex did his expected turn with Levi by his side.  No one had lived at the cabin since Rina Hemming passed away three years ago and the cabin had sat empty ever since.  On occasion, patrol would pass by as it was on the border of pack land but had never scented or seen anyone.  Amelia's scent reached them long before they arrived at the tree line but she didn't appear to be entirely what she seemed but Alex couldn't really explain why.   Alex mind-linked the Alpha to update him on the new arrival and awaited orders.  “Continue patrolling but make a return loop by the cabin to reassess the situation” were the new orders and Alex and Levi continued on their way.  The loop would make the patrol last longer so it was best to keep moving. He knew the Alpha would want a full report when they returned.
