Chapter 19

973 Words
Apparently, Li Han was a very oblivious grape—or at least that’s how the universe treated him—and he had somehow missed two crucial pieces of information: One, that the school was planning a field trip. And two, a rumor about him was running around school like a loose dog with a stolen shoe. And of course, he learned both things on the same exhausting day. Li Han was quietly tucked away in the library, doing what any sensible person would do: reading in peace. Meanwhile, the twins were attached to him like overly affectionate barnacles. Normally, they behaved themselves in the library, lounging near him, resting their heads on his shoulder or lap, quietly scrolling through their phones, or sketching doodles of who-knows-what. They respected their husband’s reading time. But today? Exception.. “Fu Fu, did you know there’s a planned school field trip where we get to relax and have fun?” Yo Sun chirped, fingers threading idly through Li Han’s hair. Li Han shook his head, refusing to lift his eyes from the page. “So, Fu Fu, are you going?” Yo Han asked, leaning forward eagerly. "“No,” Li Han replied, turning another page with absolute serenity. “But why? Don’t you want to have fun?” “No.” “But Fu Fu!” Yo Sun whined, already winding up for a persuasive speech. “If you go, we’ll give you anything you want! And you don’t even have to wake up early or go to school! And it’s only from Friday to Sunday, just two days, you won’t even miss anything! And you can bring your precious books! And best of all—we’ll be there with you!” Yo Sun felt satisfied with the speech he delivered to Li Han which he was sure he would have no other choice than to say... “No.” “…No?” Thus began a long, torturous chain of begging. Every hallway, every classroom, every staircase Li Han moved, and the twins followed behind pleading like abandoned puppies. But Li Han remained steadfast in his refusal, powered by pure stubbornness and deep hatred for group activities. By the time he arrived at work, he exhaled with relief so powerful it could’ve blown the café door open. The shop was quiet—blessedly customer-free. Li Han leaned against the counter lazily, regretting not stuffing a book into his bag. He contemplated whether staring at the coffee grinder counted as entertainment when someone cleared their throat. "Hi sorry for disturbing you, I'm Bai Chen I attend the same school as you" Li Han blinked, sat up, and nodded politely facing his co-worker. He didn't really know if who he was talking to was a alpha, beta or omega and he could barely tell their gender but anyway what difference did it make to his life. "Hello I am Li Han, nice to meet you" “Thanks! I didn’t want to sound rude but… I’m curious about something.” Bai Chen leaned in like they were about to share national secrets. “Is the rumor true?”. Rumor? Li Han’s interest sparked—not excitement, more like mild suspicion that someone somewhere was probably using his name wrong. He nodded, signaling for them to continue. “Are you going out with—or sleeping with—the Ji twins?” “No,” Li Han answered calmly, not shocked in the slightest. “I knew it!” Bai Chen announced triumphantly. “You don’t seem like the type to date alphas.” Li Han nodded again. He wasn’t sure what “the type” meant, but okay. "Anyway are you going for the school field trip, it would be so fun and I heard..." Li Han sighed inaudibly and tuned out the rest. Every mention of that cursed trip made him want to ascend into the ceiling. The next day, the twins had continued to beg Li Han but he didn't budge, they were desperate because the next day was the trip and everyone was given a permission slip which they were told to give their parents to sign, Li Han had just shoved it in his bag not bothered. During dinner that same night it felt like the universe was playing a game with him. During dinner they all sat quietly enjoying their food until his mother said enthusiastically "Li Han I heard from my friend that there is a school field trip tomorrow and everyone was given a permission slip to give to their parents, where is ours or are you not planning to go" Li Han wanted to tell her 'no' but he saw his father looking at him expectedly so he had no choice than to bring the permission slip which his mother signed. Li Han stared at the bus filled with his classmates as he groaned out loud "Fu Fu, you came!" Li Han looked over to see Yo Han, who was about to board his own bus, say. But before he could say more, Yo Han was pushed into the bus by other classmates who also wanted to get good seats. Li Han got onto the bus and sat up front, a spot everyone avoided since it would require sitting near their homeroom teacher. The teacher stood up, clipboard in hand, and went through attendance like they were preparing for battle. Then came the list of rules—no wandering off, no switching buses, no unauthorized swimming, no sneaking out at night, and on and on. Only once when the teacher was satisfied and students were sufficiently lifeless, did the bus finally lurch forward toward their destination. Li Han's nose was buried in his book throughout the entire ride to avoid socializing with the teacher or anyone else in general.
