When Elena and her mother left the house, father immediately assisted me and let me eat my favorite cake.
“You should not have come here,” he said, causing me to look at him while munching the cake.
“Why would I? It’s my house as well,” I jokingly replied.
Damara and Madam Olivia were not here, father gave them money to go shopping. Those insolent mother and daughter, they leave father here alone with those b1tches?
How could they do that!? They really are mother and daughter. They’re exactly alike! The same personality!
“I am kind of feeling guilty from everything I have given you. I adopted you so you could live a good life yet you’re the one saving me in this life I have ruined,” father spoke.
I stared at him while he was frowning looking down, afraid to look at me out of shame.
“We have already talked about this before, father. It is fine. If there is something I can help you with, I will help you,” I replied and smiled at him.
“Let us change the topic now, okay?” I added.
Father was about to speak when Gab went in hastily causing us to look at him. “Is everything fine? I saw them leave,” he asks.
“Yes, thank you for patiently waiting,” I replied.
After that, father, Gab, and I just spent some time talking. All of us were confused as h*ll as to why those two leave out of nowhere.
What could that person whisper to Elena’s mother?
.
When dark came, I decided to go back home. While I was walking to my room, I suddenly bumped to Lacrus.
“Did everything go well?” he asks.
“Yeah, maybe,” I replied.
“Then that is good.”
After he spoke, he went into his room. He was talking about me going to my father's house. How did he know I went to my father? I did not tell him anything before leaving.
I just shrugged my head and went to my room to sleep.
.
Days have passed, the issue is still circulating around. I could hear murmurs in every hall and room in our campus about me as a wife of Lacrus Valencia.
Some were envious and some were trying to bully me but of course I don’t let those women do what they want. And they could not do what they want either, especially that the Valencia name protects me.
“So this is what it feels like if you’re connected to someone powerful because of money?” I mumbled while I was staring at my notebook in the library.
I am here alone trying to read the lesson. An exam is coming and I had to review.
I looked around when I felt like someone is looking at me and I wasn’t mistaken, students were really looking at me murmuring.
I could hear some of it. It is all about Lacrus not wanting me.
I couldn’t blame them though. Lacrus had never really made an effort to show his affection as a loving husband in public. However, because of that, something far greater began to spread.
Rumors started spreading that Father had tried to blackmail Lacrus into helping him settle his debts. Our family’s problems had spread like wildfire, becoming the subject of people’s conversations and leading them to believe something like that happened.
It damages the reputation of my father’s name. They made my father a bad person when in the first place Lacrus was the one who offered this marriage.
“And if I told them what really happened, would they believe me? Of course not!” I mumbled and lay my head down at the table.
These b1tches.
I am already dealing with Damara and her mother, and now these people have to add to my problems?
“You’re here.”
I looked at my left side when I saw someone standing. It was Lacrus, in his professor identity.
“Why are you here?” I ask him.
There were hardly any students around anymore since some of them had already gone inside. So it is safe now to speak casually to him.
“You didn’t go to your class?” he asked.
“Why would you care?” I replied.
He was silent and did not try to speak after that. I lifted my head from laying down to look at him.
“What is it? You just keep on staring at me,” I asked him.
He just flicked my forehead.
“What the freak!?” I speak loudly.
I saw him smirking. “Don’t tell me you worry too much about those rumors? You can just shrug it off, it’s just a rumor.”
“It is easy for you to say. You are not the one people are talking about. It’s about me and my father.”
He was silent once again until the bell rang. He turned around and started to walk away from me.
I really can’t read him at all. There are times he’s good at me but most of the time, so cold and whatever it is you called!
I’m starting to be curious as to why he chose me to be his wife in exchange for helping father. If he wants to use our family, he can just choose Damara and not me!
What could be his reason?
“I will expose it slowly, Lacrus Valencia. What are you planning, huh?” I murmured.
