Everyone stared at Henry as if he had completely lost his mind.

Unless Lily was a complete fool, there was no way she'd admit to something like that—whether Henry was telling the truth or not. By saying what he did, Henry had practically handed everyone the impression that he'd made the whole thing up.
While Maureen and her group hung their heads in dismay, the rest of the crowd turned their attention to Lily, their faces alight with anticipation. They were just waiting for her to deny it, ready to leap to her defense and tear Henry apart.
