Delta

Lily wasn’t sure why she didn’t like the man that Gabriel had called “delta”.. but she knew she didn’t. As soon as Gabriel was out of sight and the other guards dispersed, his hand reached out and shoved her forward towards the front door. “In. Now.” Lily stumbled, smacking into the front door while she fumbled for the doorknob, tears brimming in her eyes. She made her way into the dark house, fumbling for her light switch when the man behind her sighed and smacked her hand out of the way. Her pinky screamed at her, and she cradled it to her chest. He flipped on the lights. She glared at him. “What’s your problem?” She snapped. “Sit down, and shut up until the Alpha gets back,” he growled. Lily took two steps back. “He may be accepting of your human filth, but not all of us are. Now sit the f**k down.” Lily sat down on the sofa. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, and she became increasingly aware of the fact that not everyone here was “her mate”. This man could kill her— easily— and she couldn’t stop him. She couldn’t stop the shaking of her hands and body as she found herself cuddling closer into Gabriel’s jacket. It was dark in the house now due to the rain clouds gathering outside— and she didn’t so much as move to turn on a light. She stared at the intimidating blonde man who stood like a statue by the door. If Lily had seen him in different context, she would’ve called him handsome— he had a very handsome face and pretty blue eyes. But now, he was just terrifying to her. Was this how she was going to be treated for the rest of her life? As soon as Gabriel left her, she would be treated like garbage and a prisoner? But, she told herself, you are a prisoner. You don’t deserve better treatment from them. She refused to live in fear. Lily stood up, pulling Gabriel’s jacket tight around her shoulders, and started towards the kitchen. In a flash, the man was in front of her, staring down at her with icy blue eyes that held no kindness. “I told you to sit down.” “And I’m thirsty,” she snapped back. “If this is my house now, I have a right to get water, right?” The man threw his head back and laughed. “Please. You won’t make it through next winter. Once the Alpha gets an heir out of you, you’ll be tossed aside like the used piece of ass you are.” Lily recoiled like he slapped her, blood rising to the surface of her face. “f**k you.” She spat. That did it. Rage boiled under the man’s face, and before she knew what was happening, he had backhanded her so hard she fell, her head smacking into the side table with a c***k. Stars danced in front of her vision as she tried to peel herself off of the floor with little success. She could feel something warm and sticky dripping down her cheek. She sucked in air, trying to force her limbs to work. “Oh, s**t,” the man hissed. “Oh, f**k. s**t, s**t, shit.” The man was flipping on lights and dialing a number on his phone. Lily tried to focus on herself. She looked down, and through the spinning her vision was doing, she saw little drops of red blood dripping down on her dress. A wave of nausea overtook her, and she had to fight not to vomit. “I don’t know, Alpha. She fell down, and she hit her head. I tried to catch her—“ Lily could hear screaming on the other line, snarling, growling, so loud it sounded like Gabriel was on speaker. She didn’t care. He left her alone with him— maybe he knew this would happen. Maybe he wanted it to happen. Lily clutched at the side of her head, where it felt like someone took a jackhammer to her skull. A deep, throbbing pain had set in. After the screaming had stopped, the man had tried to pick her up several times. Lily wouldn’t allow it. She kicked, screamed, punched, and finally the man gave up, letting her sit there and hold her head. Lily had almost gotten her nausea under control, until Gabriel and three large men came barreling in the door. He took one look at her, and immediately stopped down on his knees by her side. “How did this happen?” He demanded, grabbing her face and turning it carefully so he could examine the cut on her cheek. Lily couldn’t answer him. She just started laughing. Hysterically laughing. Deep, belly laughs that made her stomach hurt. She couldn’t help it. It was life getting her again, and it was just comical at this point. Gabriel grabbed her face, worry coating his features, as her laughs slowly turned into gut wrenching sobs. “It’s,” she gasped between sobs. “Just the universe, f*****g me over.. a-again,” she cried. “Call the pack doctor,” he barked out. “Now.” Gabriel’s eyes narrowed as he studied her face. He kept his hand on her jaw, and the longer his hand sat there, the slower her sobs got— until she was just barely gasping. She hated it. She hated his effect on her. She hated him. “This bruise,” he ran his hand across her temple. “This is too bad to be just from a fall.” Realization dawned across his face, and rage boiled under his eyes. It slowly overtook his whole face, until his whole frame was shaking. He turned to the man who had hit her. “How did you say this happened, Delta?” His voice was menacing. “She was going to get a glass of water, and she fell and hit the table. I tried to catch her—“ Lily bursted out into laughter. Comical. Gabriel turned back to her, leaning down and grabbing her chin to look her in the eye. “Is he telling the truth, Lily? Did you fall on accident?” Lily looked into his pretty eyes. “Why does it matter? You left me with him.” That told Gabriel all he needed to know. A feral growl built up in his chest, and he turned away from her, launching himself at her attacker. When Lily’s eyes made sense of what was happening, Gabriel was snarling viciously, his fist pounding repeatedly into the man’s face. None of the other guards moved to stop him, even as blood spurted out of the man’s mouth. Lily cowered back at the sheer strength and power Gabriel was exhibiting, as his fist pounded again and again into the man’s face, his head snapping back with a sickening crunching noise. A guard held a hand out to her. “May I help you up, Luna?” Lily looked up at the face she saw, and it was one she didn’t recognize. He had sleek black hair and bright, amber colored eyes. “Isn’t anyone going to stop him?” She whispered. He didn’t wait for her to take his hand, he simply slid his arms gently under hers, and lifted her from the ground. “He deserves whatever punishment he gets.” Lily looked back over her shoulder as the man led her to the kitchen, and she was pretty sure the blonde man was dead. Gabriel was standing over him now, breathing deeply and barking orders. “I want him executed. I want his balls on a platter. I want him—“ The man covered her ears with his hands. “Come, Luna. Let’s get you settled.”
