Kael's Pov "You look wonderful babe, I love that necklace" Not like Natalie ever needed to do anything extra to shine, she was always stunning. It bothered me that she was putting in so much effort. "I think I should use this top instead, this gown seems too tight" Natalie's eyes met mine in the mirror, and I noticed they were dim, the flicker of anxiety was hard to miss. She was putting herself under pressure. Natalie felt like the class difference between our families would make my mother dislike her. Family wealth didn't matter to me, and I know my mother won't judge her because of that. "Come on babe, I don't think my mother......". "You don't get it", She interrupted, only now did I notice the sweat beads forming around her forehead and her neck. She was nervous, more nervous than I thought. I placed my tie back on the table, taking a deep breath as she crashed on the chair in front of the mirror, I too was getting ready for the dinner. It's was a custom in the Astropack for the prince to marry before he can asscend his father's throne, and that journey is what I'm about to begin. Tonight, I was officially introducing my finance Natalie to my mother; I know they had seen each other a couple of times, but this was going to be the first official visit. Natalie had been nervous since I informed her about the dinner we were to have with my mother, and though it wasn't very obvious before, she couldn't hide it now. Her emerald eyes easily radiating in the dimly lit room. Claiming her hands I placed a soft peck on her cheeks "I promise you my mother just wants to meet you, there's nothing to be bothered about". She heaved a sigh. "Okay," She smiled, now more confident and less tensed. **The Astropack Palace** Our fingers tightly entwined with each other, Natalie and I made our way inside the palace. "Where's my mother?" I asked the first guard I saw as we walked in. "She's.....", "Kael!". My face lit up at the sound of my mother's voice. She wasn't in sight at first, but when I turned towards the dining table, I saw her beautiful smile. The smile on my mother's face was so bright and contagious too. "And this must be Natalie" She hurried towards us and wrapped Natalie in a warm embrace, their soft giggles filling the air. "You look so beautiful my darling! Oh, how I've waited for this day." The hug continued. I could feel Natalie ease up, their instant connection warmed my heart. "It's so nice to meet you my queen" Natalie was grinning so hard. "Oh please call me mother" The hug broke up "Now come, I made food specially for you, come". "Are you guys not even going to acknowledge me" I chirped in, a bit jealous. "Come on Kael, this is lady's talk" With that they giggled away from the living room and headed straight to the dinning room. I loved the way the evening was going, nothing gave me more joy than seeing my mate and my mother connect so easily. "A toast" My mother poured out drinks for Natalie from one bottle and poured out drinks for me from another bottle. I laughed when I remembered her saying she was going to attend to Natalie specially. "After my husband the king died, this kingdom has been without a king, but now my not so little boy is taking big steps" Her voice thinned and her eyes glistened. She always teared up whenever she talked about Dad. "My Kael is getting married, and the best part is he's getting married to a woman he loves, and I'm filled with so much joy" A single teardrop strode quickly down her cheeks. "A toast to love" I added. "A toast to family" Natalie squeezed my mother's hand and clinked her glass with her's. "Cheers!". For the next two hours, the women completely ignored me and kept talking in high tones, the conversation quickly changing from family to bags to education to shoes and values. "Mom, we need to leave now" As much as I hated to be that person, it was getting late and we had to go. "Kael, why don't you give us thirty more minutes" her hands tightly wrapped around Natalie. "It's getting late, you know I don't like moving at night" I stood up showing readiness. "Well my love, you can feel free to come in here anytime, even though you're not officially married, this is your home already" They hugged each other tightly. "Okay, Mom", Natalie broke away from the hug. ", I had a lovely time. Thank you" She giggled. "Okay my love, drive safe" I finally got my first hug of the night. "Bye Mom, talk to you later" With that Natalie and I made our way out of the palace and into the car. "On a scale of one to ten how much do you like my mom?" The soft music on the radio playing over my voice. "One hundred" She laughed, she was weirdly quiet. "You seem a bit off, you have been quiet, something on your mind?" I stole quick glances at her as I drove, we were on the expressway. "Nothing" She breathed, "I just feel dizzy, my head is light and....and my stomach…it...". My eyes turned to her again for a split second as I swerved left to dodged an oncoming vehicle. "You good Nat?" I reached to check her temperature. "What!" I screamed surprised, she was burning up. "Nat!" She became silent all of a sudden. My heart leapt in my chest. The road wasn't getting less busy, and observing her was more difficult than I imagined. "I need to park, no, we need to get to the hospital", I muttered under my breath, each second increasing my tension. A wave of nausea swelled up inside me but I swallowed the acrid taste back down. I stole another glance and my heart sank to the deepest part of my stomach. There was blood gushing out of her nose and he head hung loosely on her neck. I didn't give it much thought, damn, I wasn't thinking at all, I let go of the steering wheel scared of what was happening. "Nat!" I screamed, scared to my toes. "Wake up!" I tried to shake her face. It was clear to me now, I didn't think of where the light that shone on her face was from. The next few moments were a blur of panic and chaos. I tried to shake Natalie awake, but she didn't respond. I felt like I was losing her, and it was a feeling I couldn't bear. The sound of honking horns and screeching tyres filled the air. I tried to wrap my head around how she was bleeding from her nose and her mouth at the same time, I was so bothered but the honking sound was louder than fear in my chest. I looked up to the road I disregarded a few seconds ago, and I saw the source of the light directly in front of my vehicle. One second, I was driving, the next I was panicking about Natalie, and after the loud bang, I couldn't feel anything. There was nothing but darkness, closing around me.
