Something felt off when I walked into school the Monday after the adoption discussion. The halls were a blur of movement—students pushing past one another, lockers slamming, laughter and chatter weaving into a chaotic hum. But despite the sea of bodies surging around us, my pack was locked in their own world, their attention laser-focused on each other, tense and unreadable. Jake was scowling, his jaw clenched tight like he was biting back words. Paul was fidgeting, tapping his fingers against his thigh in a restless rhythm.
