~~LOLA~~
Colton didn't kiss me immediately.
No.
He just gripped my waist, dropped his head into the crook of my neck, and began pelting kisses there.
My body tensed up.
I gripped the bar edge tightly in an attempt to hold myself together. I closed my eyes tight, hoping to feel something other than the growing discomfort in the pit of my stomach.
His palm rested firmly on the open skin of my low back as he trailed feathery lines on it with the tip of his fingers.
“This isn't a kiss…” There was a tremor in my voice.
“It's foreplay? Romance…” his breath nuzzled my neck as his other hand skimmed past the curve of my hip and grabbed hard at my ass.
My brain short-circuited that second, and without thinking I slapped his hand off, alarmed. The air smoldered with tension.
“I…I don't want romance.” I whispered as a torturous heat crept up my neck, turning me into a messy smear of pink and sweat.
Colton stepped away from me, his eyes dimming in displeasure. “I think you are done for the night.”
“No wait…” I tried to stop him but he turned away.
He moved towards the far end of the club where his supposed teammates were gathered. I watched them cheer loudly as soon as he stepped into their midst, how he shook hands and nudged shoulders with all of them, quickly blending in.
And while I waited for his return, an hour passed and Colton didn't for once look my way to at least be sure his guest was still where he left her.
His laughs had now somehow become the loudest, and I flinched every time they came.
I eventually turned away, downing more glasses of wine than I cared to count while sniffling and sulking all through.
The drive back to the estate at midnight was more stifling than when we were leaving.
Colton said nothing to me as he pulled over at exactly where he’d picked me up from and I didn't even bother with goodbyes as I was equally brewing with rising anger.
I got out, slammed his car door shut, and watched him turn the car around until it disappeared down the road.
I rolled my eyes.
As soon as I sneaked my way back through the main door and into the grand foyer, I pressed my back against the door—relieved to be back in the only place that I could still consider safe.
A tear pricked the corner of my eye, and I immediately swiped a hand over it. I was never going to cry because I got ditched a second time.
“I clearly asked you to kiss me…” I fumed under my breath as I began storming past the living room area. “You didn't… Now I’m the bad guy?”
I unzipped my boots and kicked them off into God knows what direction. I barely took the stairs when a voice interrupted.
“Good party?”
I stilled. My head snapped towards the living room. There was someone on the couch, head inclined lightly to the side as his arm stretched forward and retracted back a bottle that he brough to his lips.
I hated that I knew who it was right away.
For some reason, I abandoned the stairs I should have taken and stormed right into his direction, only stopping after I came to stand directly in front of him.
A shiver coursed through me when he raised those beautiful grey eyes on me…
No that was the wine speaking, I shook my head hard to dispel the thought.
“Good party?” His voice came again, a quiet rasp.
“What?” My own voice slurred as I eyed him. “What is it to you?
I snatched the bottle from his hand, bringing it up to my eyes to read the label. “Nocturne cask? Who the hell drinks beer at midnight?”
His eyes flickered over my outfit, giving me a once-over. “I do. When I’m not tryna lose my s**t and chase down a certain bastard.”
I was flabbergasted. "You are speaking in parables”
He rose to his feet that minute, his height suddenly doubling two stretches higher than me. A tinny laugh cracked out of me.
“Goodness, so large.” I gasped amusingly as my head lolled from the effect of that wine kicking in… and him, his scent. “You’d be competing with a skyscraper at this point.”
His arms snaked around my waist as he caught me anyway, his facial expression rock-stiff.
“Okay Mister Vaughn, you are breaching boundaries.” I poked his chest through the large hoodie he had on. “Hard.”
He frowned. “What are you drunk on?”
“Wine? Am I drunk? Run your diagnosis well, Mister Vaughn.” A wry laugh wrung out of me.”
His brows lifted subtly at that.
“Why aren't I even mad at you?” I began picking at the tip of his hair strand.
“Mad at me?”
“For ruining my date with Colton…” I scoffed. “I saw you at that party…” I bobbed my head as the memory came back along with a wave of annoyance burning my skin hot. “You were there and because of you, Colton couldn't kiss me properly… he got mad and fled!”
His eyes broke into narrow slits. Oh, he was mad!… really mad!
“What? Are you going to scold me?”
“Isn't that what older brothers do? Scold their little sisters after she runs off with some boy.” He sounded sarcastic.
“Little sister?” I blinked hard. “Do not call me that. You are not my older brother, never will be.” I stabbed my finger into his chest.
He tugged my waist flush into him. “Perfect. I don't plan to be one either.”
Those words flipped the knots in my belly as I held his eyes until mine moved right down to his lips, they looked… perfect.
His palm wandered into my hair. “I’m going to deal with that Jerk who fed you this much wine…”
“Colton?” It slipped past my lips in a low murmur. “Colton’s gone.” I tipped my toes and craned my neck high until my lips pressed on his, all sense of reasoning long forgotten.
A sharp spark coursed through my body from the contact. I pulled back, licking my lower lip.
His eyes clouded over in the same beat.
The air went cold.
“Don’t do that again, Lola” He groaned. “I will take you to your bedroom now.”
“You are leaving me hanging as he did too. As they all did?” I sniffed.
His fingers ran through my scalp. “Are you comparing me to your f*****g dates?”
“Are you any better…”
He crashed his lips on mine, cutting me off in a devastating kiss that dragged a whimper from my throat.
I wrapped my arms around him, my fingers fisting the back of his hoodie fabric. He kissed me with so much intensity that it had me weak in the knees.
His tongue swirled deep in mine, my head going lightheaded when I tasted the alcohol on it.
My stomach fluttered with a pleasant ache as I made an effort to match his vigor.
He suddenly pulled away for a second, but it felt like forever. My lips were tingling. His warm breath ghosted along the bridge of my nose.
My red lipstick was now a smeared mess across his lips. He had kissed it all off from me.
I threw my hands around his neck and jumped onto his body without warning.
He caught me gingerly, his hands pulling my thighs to wrap firmly around him.
“Lola…”
It was his second time gritting out my name and whether it was a warning or not, I was too hot and lost for logic.
“Let’s just keep kissing, Mister Vaughn.” I cupped his jaw and leaned back in, taking his lips into mine this time.
