Chapter 18 Mark and Paul went downstairs the next morning to find Leone in the kitchen preparing breakfast. He looked at them, smiled, and asked, “Did you sleep well?” Mark glanced at Paul, who seemed to be about to laugh, and answered for both of them. “As well as could be expected under the circumstances.” He’d let Leone decide which way he meant it. Leone apparently took it both ways because he chuckled, then sobered, replying, “I talked to Signorina Gardner just a few minutes ago. She says all indications, from her informants, are that Angelo Sordi is preparing for a trip. We can only presume he is heading in this direction.” “Oh boy, there went my appetite,” Mark muttered under his breath. “No, you must eat, hungry or not. A good breakfast is necessary to start the day correctly.
