Chapter Three As predicted, the rain started, but I still couldn't bring myself to go inside. I was getting cold, my make up and hair was ruined, I was soaked, but.. I just couldn't. I felt bad that Chad was staying with me, even though he was in the same boat as me, aka, He was soaking wet and cold too. 'You don't have to stay with me, Go back in side, I understand, Honestly'. I told him but he just smiled and shook his head. 'No, It's ok, I don't mind a little sky water'. I had to laugh. For the first time today, I laughed. 'Sky water? I've never heard rain called that before'. He just shrugged. 'Well, That's exactly what it is, it's water that falls from the sky, right?' 'Yeah, I guess so'. Once again we were sat in silence, but my teeth chattering broke though that completely and I started shivering. I tried to will my body to stop, but I couldn't it really was just so cold. 'Here'. Chad took his jacket off and passed it over to me. 'No, No, it's fine, don't worry, you'll get a cold'. He shook his head and physically draped it over my shoulders himself. 'Don't be silly, take it'. I must admit, it was warm and nice and I couldn't help but pull it closed and snuggle inside it. 'Thank you, but you can have it back in a minute'. He rolled his eyes playfully. I opened my mouth to speak when we heard the church doors open and both of us looked over to see the guests coming out of the church. We just sat and watched as one by one they all came out, some where hysterical as well, some were just crying... I had managed to hold myself together, that is until I saw Grandma's coffin. She was being buried in this cemetery in the family plot. We watched as they carried her coffin through the grounds and over to where she would be laid to rest. 'Do you want to go down and be there for this?' He asked. I thought really hard about it for a minute before I shook my head. 'No... I- I can't'. 'Are you sure? You absolutely positive you won't regret that later in life?' 'I'm sure. I'll go down and say my good byes once every one leaves. I know Grandma would understand'. I saw him nod out of the corner of my eye. I noticed Ava staring up the hill at us 'You should go.. I think Ava is waiting for you'. 'No. It's fine, I said I'd stay with you'. When he didn't move she shook her head and followed the crowd up to the grave site. Due to the rain, Not many people stayed for very long, they paid their respects and laid some flowers and left. As soon as Grandma was in the ground, everyone else left too and I took a long, deep sigh and stood up. 'I guess it's time to go down there and say good bye, huh?' I asked. Chad patted my shoulder. 'Yeah, come on'. The walk was shorter than you'd think, but every step I took it just felt like another kick in the gut. I wasn't ready for this, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to her!
