The week went by fast and soon Alpha’s and their families were pouring in by the dozens for the ball. Naomi and Hallie were too busy accommodating all the guests as I had to keep feeding everyone and helping the other Omegas with keeping up the house. There were wolves everywhere with all different scents. None of which I recognized nor called out to me as mates.
Naomi kept her word and whenever I finished cooking a meal, she sent me back up into my bedroom until the next meal time. She also made sure that other wolves, especially unmated ones, stayed clear of the kitchen while I cooked to make sure I did not interact with anyone. I didn’t mind as when the rest of the house was busy and loud, the kitchen was the only place that provided me with the silent comfort I craved.
After dinner, I made sure the house was silent before I decided to go out on a run with Snow. I snuck quietly down the stairs, listening for any movement in the bedrooms. Once I reached the kitchen, I snuck out the back door through our gardens. I stopped to admire the white roses that almost glowed in the moonlight. I skipped through the rows, running my fingers along the flowers. My hair loose and flowing behind me as my bare feet absorbed the spiritual energy that the gardens provided me.
I leapt through the air, smiling brightly under the moonlight and twirled in couple circles before falling backwards, landing in the soft grass. I ran my arms and fingers through the grass, feeling a sense of relaxation. I sighed, looking up at the sky and admired the stars that filled the sky. My hair illuminated by the moonlight and spread around my head. I don’t know how long a laid there, soaking up the natural energy.
Snow interrupted at the same time an intriguing scent of the ocean drifted into my senses. Someone is watching us. I jump up, looking around the forest line for any movement. Run, before they can catch you! I run to the tree line, shedding my over-sized T-shirt and shifting into my pure white wolf form. I run as fast as I can towards the meadow on the outskirts of the territory, hoping to get away from that mouth-watering scent of the ocean. I knew if I was caught by another wolf, Naomi would have my head.
My paws slam into the earth, the trees passing by me in a blur. I focus on disappearing and allow the natural energy to shield me, hide me from anyone who is watching. Before I know it, my fur glows in the dark making letting me know that my spell had worked and I was able to successfully disappear into the night. Before I can celebrate, I make it to the clearing of the meadow and instantly catch the scent of fresh blood.
That’s the scent of animal blood. I don’t sense any danger ahead. I slowly walk into the meadow, searching for the source. The moon flowers that filled the landscape filling the air with a floral scent. Soon I find a trail of blood droplets and follow it until I reach the Oak tree that sat in the center of the meadow. At the base of the tree, a pregnant doe laid breathing raggedly. A bite wound from most likely a mountain lion tore through her upper back thigh.
‘I need to help her’ I whine, preparing to shift back into my human form. Snow allows me to take over and I kneel beside the doe. Her brown eyes open and watches me cautiously. “You’re going to be okay.” I whisper, making eye contact with her and resting my hand on her heaving chest. She watches me for a couple seconds before closing her eyes again, leaving her fate in my hands. I smile to my self and place my palms on the ground, absorbing the spiritual energy from the floral landscape around me.
I focus on the healing energy of mother earth, allowing it to enter my own soul. I watch as the familiar glowing swirls travel through my finger tips and up my arms. The same glowing orbs lifting up from the earth and swirling around me, drifting around the oak tree and the doe lying on the ground. I take in a deep breath and lift my hands from the giving earth and onto the doe’s thigh.
“Moon Goddess, Mother Earth, Please bring forth your spiritual energy to heal this creature.” I take a deep breath in and out. In and out. Once the doe and I sync our breathing, I begin to sing the healing lullaby.
“Bring forth the shining stars,
Bring forth the gentle night,
May the moon and stars pour
Their healing light upon thee.
Deep peace to the Moon Goddess
Deep peace to the Mother of Earth.
Bring the light of the world to you,
Bring the light of the world to you.”
My hushed lullaby ends as the swirling glow flow from my own arms and disappear into the fur of the doe. The gash in her thigh, slowly closing and healing. I take one more deep breath and remove my hands from her side. Her eyes fly open and she slowly moves to a laying position making eye contact with me.
We watch each other, her eyes silently thanking me. We stay like that for a few moments before a twig snaps in the forest behind us. It’s the same energy of the wolf who watched us before! The doe jumps up a bounds into the woods and I follow behind her, shifting and running deeper into the woods.
I hide in a bears den not far from the meadow and repeat the hiding spell. The sound of a wolf running passes by the den, the mouth-watering scent of the ocean faint. Snow purrs quietly willing me to check out the passing wolf. I deny her and wait with bated breath for the wolf to get far enough away.
We should follow that wolf. Theres something about that scent that is enticing. I shake my head and crawl deeper into the den. ‘We must not reveal ourself. We would be in trouble if another wolf saw what we just did. Witchcraft is forbidden within the wolven domain.’ I plead, getting comfortable in the leaves that bedded the bottom of the den. I trust you. Snow whispers in my mind. ‘I trust you.’ I lay my head between my paws, focusing on breathing slowly.
