Chapter 10 The room is empty save for a couple of Blessed finishing up their tasks for the day. I ignore them and make my way to the linen-wrapped figure on the dais in the middle of the room as if in a trance. The heavy scent of the embalming room is impossible to miss, and yet it barely registers. The only thing that matters to me is Father. He looks far more peaceful now than he did the last time I saw him. His ornate golden death mask glitters with jewels and fine carvings, proclaiming him as every bit the powerful Pharaoh that he was. But it doesn't include the most important thing to me. There's no indication of how much he loved his children and the father that he was to us.
