Chapter 5

It wasn't really much to do while she was gone, so I baked. It was a form of habit whenever I just wanted to relax and calm myself. I started mixing my batters. I wanted to make double chocolate chip brownies and then started on my cheesecake mixture. By the time I got done with both, it had been almost 3 hours since Kamila had left. Just as I was finishing my piece I had cut for myself, I heard the door knock. I quickly dusted the crumbs off my clothes and got up to see who they were. As I opened the door, I was enveloped with the smell of something garlic and parmesean. Standing outside was Orlando with a bag that contained some type of takeout food. I don't know what it was, but I was drooling over both him and the food. "Want some company?" He asked with a cherry smile, which in return made my lips lift into one as well. As I invited him in, he saw the dessert I had just made. "Feel free to grab a bite you can try both and take as much as you'd like" I said he nodded and got settled in setting our food and drinks up at the living room table by the couch. I made sure I turned the over off and joined Orlando on the couch. "So what are we watching tonight? he asked me as I flicked through the channels. "Hmm, I'm thinking rom-com" or sci-fi. " He looked like he wanted to object but stayed silent. As we started watching the movie, I made myself comfortable on his shoulder. we the food he brought silently, and I took the chance looking over to see he was very into the movie and smiled to myself. Suddenly my phone rang and I saw it was from a private number. Orlando watched as I answered "Hello" I said, trying to figure out who would be calling me at this time. "So you're really just going to block my number. I don't even know what I did wrong." it was Johnathan, you know that childish ass ex I was talking about? Just listening to his voice upset me let alone him calling while I was trying to watch a movie with Orlando "If you wanted to have a real conversation with me you would've asked in the first place and you know why you're blocked you keep contacting me and I don't want to deal with you, anyone or anything related to you what are you not getting?" I asked, trying to quicken the conversation so I could continue relaxing with Orlando. "Just hear me out things have changed and I don't deal with those thugs anymore baby I got real stuff going on over here" He said "You had you're chances and giving you more than one risked my life please don't call me again" I said and hung up. Soon after I received a text message 'b***h you're lucky I don't know where you're at but tread carefully cus I'mma make yo ass regret it'. I reread the message over 4 times anxiety threatening to peek. I guess Orlando could see my change of mood because he seemed to get serious as soon as I hung up. "Whatever it is you know I can help you with anything you need right?" He asked giving my hand a gentle squeeze. I nodded and shifted my gaze away from my phone and to his face. "As much as that sounds like a better and safer plan for me, I don't want you getting yourself into any of my drama, especially since he deals with a bad crowd" I could have sworn I saw Orlando scoff as if he was offended but just brushed it off. Orlando's POV Looking at how uncomfortable she was, I just sat there contemplating on if I should have taken action when I saw her face change at the end of their conversation. I wouldn't even call that a conversation if most of it was of the guy harassing her. I could tell the movie was almost to it's ending but when I looked down to see if Aliyah was watching as well, I saw her eyelids closed and heard soft snores from her nose. I chuckled to myself, thinking about how this beautiful captivating woman could possibly be stressing over matters like this, so I understood what I had to do at that moment. This really brought deja vu back to me as I carried her body to her bedroom. I lucked out because the only reason I could tell it was her is because I saw I big grand picture hanging on her wall of what seemed to be her and an elderly lady. She seemed carefree next to that person. I wonder what made the confident aura go away. I settled her in bed and made sure not to be loud on my way out. Suddenly, I heard her front door being jiggled and the sound of keys as it opened, and I came across her friend Kamila's face. As soon as she saw me, a big grin stood permanently on her face as she squealed. The mind of this girl I said internally face palming. As I left out shutting the door behind me, I felt Kamila slap me on my back. "Good job, buddy," she exclaimed, making me laugh on the way to the elevator. My plan for whoever this ex of Aliyahs was simple, find out a name and the rest, a piece of cake.
