Chapter 4:Goodbye

1163 Words
Sophia POV Yesterday was amazing. I get out of bed and go to sit on the balcony and daydream about Tyler. I’m looking at the gardeners gardening and the guards on patrol. I see a car pull into the front of the palace and it’s my parents? Why are they back so suddenly? I run downstairs to see them immediately. “Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?” “Is that how you decide to greet us Sophia?” My dad says with his arms wide open. I hug both of my parents and we go into one of the living rooms to catch up. This is the perfect moment to tell them about Tyler. At least I think it is. “Mom, dad. I have something to tell you.” I say while fidgeting with the ends of my hair. “Ofcourse honey” my mom says taking a seat. “I met a boy.” “Really dear? From what kingdom?” My dad replied Kingdom? “What do you mean?” “I mean, if my daughter is going to be with any boy, he has to be a royal.” My dad says sternly. “You never told me any of this before dad. I like this boy. His name is Tyler Roe and-“ “Enough Sophia.” My dad refutes. I shudder. “John.” my mom says placing her hand on his shoulder “calm down.” “You do know that if you continue to see this commoner, you will eventually lose your throne.” John warns. He looks at me with anger. He has never looked at me like this before. “Sophia, you can’t…” my mom whispers. Tears begin to form in my eyes. “What does this mean? What am I meant to do? I like him, dad!” I yell as tears stream down my cheeks. “Sophia Sinot, it is forbidden!” My dad yells back. “A political law!” “What kind of political law?” I say getting up. “My life shouldn’t revolve around laws and the throne!” “That’s enough Sophia.” My dad says. I run out of the room with tears pouring down my face. I see Marla already standing in the doorway. She follows me into my room and I collapse into her arms. She already heard everything. “It’s okay soph. It’s okay.” She says while wiping my eyes. “It’s not! Why would my dad talk to me like that, it’s not okay.” “Soph listen okay, if you want to be with him, you lose your crown… is this something you're willing to do for a stranger?” Marla asks. “He is not a stranger anymore. I feel like I’ve known him forever. He’s special to me.” “I understand.” “What am I going to do Marla?” “Regardless of how much you like him, it’s forbidden, Soph.” She says softly “Did you know?” I say while looking up. “Did you know I couldn’t be with him?” “What?” “Don’t lie to me Marla.” “Soph, you were the happiest you’d ever been. I-“ Her voice is shaky now. “Yes or no Marla!” “Yes.” “Get out!” I yell “Soph, I'm sorry.” She sounds hurt now. So am I. “Out…” I whisper with a shaky voice. As soon as the door shut, I broke down. What do I tell Tyler? Why didn’t Marla tell me sooner? A million thoughts filled my head at once. *ring ring* I wipe my tears to see who could be calling, it’s Tyler. I pick up instantly *on the phone with Tyler* “Hey” I say. “Hi Sophia. How are you?” He didn’t call me princessa. Odd. “Not so good” I replied. “What’s wrong?” “Can we meet?” I ask “Like right now?” He sounds shocked. “I had something I wanted to tell you too.” He replies “We can do this in person.” “Okay.” “Yes. Send me your location. I’m coming right now.” I reply. “Alright…” he replies suspiciously. I shouldn’t be coming over. I want to see him though. I shouldn’t. I need to tell him we can’t do this anymore. In person. But do what exactly? And how? We aren’t dating. I arrive outside what I suppose is his studio. *knock knock* “Coming.” He yells I hear him running up to the door and he finally opens it. There he is. Tyler. I can’t hug him. I shouldn’t. “Come on in.” He says ushering me in. He takes a peep outside and sees her guards in a vehicle. “Thanks.” I reply with a shaking voice. He pauses and stares at me. I try to turn away but he grabs my arm. “Are you okay?” He says with concern. I can’t hold it in. “No.” Tears are falling from my eyes now. He pulls me into his arms to comfort me. I love it here. In his arms. I needed this hug. “It's okay.” He says while caressing my hair. It’s hard. But this can’t work. “Sit down.” He says. “I have something to tell you.” “Okay.” I reply while he wipes my tears. “I do too” “You go first.” “Tyler, I’m the princess, you’re a commoner… This can’t work” Im crying again. “It’s forbidden.” I look and sound hurt. He sees it. “I was going to say the same thing.” He says sitting up on the couch “It can’t work.” “Yeah.” I whisper. “Don’t cry over me. I’m not worth it.” He says while reaching and wiping her tears. I look into his eyes one last time. They're teary. “The guards are waiting for me outside. I have to go.” I say turning away from them. “Hold on.” He say while getting up. “Wait a second.” He goes into the other room and comes out holding the pencils. “Take it back” he says with a shaky voice. I’m confused. I won’t take them back. I can’t. “What? No. They were a gift.” I press them against his chest. “Please Sophia. Take it back.” He pleads. I shake my head as more tears pour down my face. He places them in my palm. I catch a glimpse of his tears falling before he turns away from me. I turn around distraught, clutching the pencils in my fist. I leave and shut the door shut behind me. We’re done. Done.
