Chapter 5

1735 Words
“Maybe that is the case…” She said with a frown. “You sound rather sad. Aren’t you supposed to feel relieved that your friend is truly loved by a man?” “Well, I should be. But I do not really think I should celebrate it. What for? She was the one who broke things off with my brother just… recklessly, and my brother got into situations and circumstances full of… pardon me, but yeah, full of crap. It really made me worry with what he was about to become, but thank Heavens, for he was able to fight imbecility, overcoming such crisis within himself.” “Your brother told me that both Lady Evelyn and you are inseparable. Why is that?” I asked, and Cahsey froze. “Please don’t get me wrong. I am just truly confused, and my questions hold no suspicious meaning,” I inserted. “The truth is… I cannot leave Eve alone. Well, almost every unmarried ladies out there are growing hatred towards her out of jealousy. Eve is what people call lucky. And so, because of that, despite how much she made me feel regarding her actions, I can’t abandon her. She’d be left all alone by herself. Who knows what people can do?” I couldn’t help but smile. “You have such a generous heart, Cahsey. And I am very proud of you for that.” Cahsey blushed as she looked down, pouring some tea on both of our teacups. “I’m just trying to be reasonable. I mean, it is her decision. It’s her life, not mine. Why get angry over the choices she makes for herself? I’m just hoping… hoping that there’s a decent cause that made her do such thing.” I sipped on the tea slowly, fighting all the urges to spit it out. I was never used with drinking tea. “Anyways, I’m excited for the dinner tonight. Mother would be delighted to know that her future daughter-in-law possessed a heart so kind and pure, and aside from that, a beauty!” I could feel the blood running up my head. I could feel my face heat up. “If you are excited, well, I am nervous.” “Oh, hush! What for? I firmly believe that you’ll reach her standard – even surpassing it!” “That’s such a generous estimate. But I’m just… a girl who was born a princess. I don’t possess anything that makes me different, in a good way, from others.” “You are probably blind. Do not worry! Mother is simple-minded and like what you call me, generous.” “I hope so.” “Yanna,” I could hear Creed’s voice calling out to Yanna? There’s another girl around? I turned to look at the surroundings, but just the walking and nearing figure of His Highness is all I can see, aside from the servants on standby. Weird. “Do you know who this Yanna your brother is calling?” I asked. “No.” I tried to look back, but I no longer needed to do so as Prince Oliveros took hold of my chin, forcefully making me look at him, our faces were once again inches away as my breath hitched, my consciousness were getting sucked off by Creed’s hypnotizing eyes as if they hold such strong magnetic power. “It is you, princess. Dinner is fast approaching, so why don’t we change in formal fits?” He suggested, then he looked at his sister. “You too, Cahsey. Do you want mother to lecture you nonstop for being so careless with time again?” “I- no. Don’t worry. I’ll change in a more formal dress.” “I thought so,” he said, then he looked at me. “Given that we are still not married yet, I’ll be separated from you as I change. Go back to your room, now. A formal dress up takes a lot of time, I believe.” “I understand.” “Then, I’ll be going now.” “See you at dinner,” I smiled, and he just looked at me monotonously as he stood properly, not even bothering to at least nod nor smile. That’s a fast change of mood. He was just left alone with Lady Evelyn and he’s already acting like this? I wonder what they were talking about. Princess Cahsey held my hand. “Hang in there,” she says. “I will. See you at dinner?” “Yes, see you at dinner,” she winked at me as she stood up. I waited for her to go already, but she stood there, as if she was waiting. “I… uhm…” A servant walked closer towards me. “Your Highness, you are of older age than Princess Cahsey of Pevanshire. It is just right to let you walk away first, otherwise, it is no proper manner for our Princess to just leave before you.” “Oh. I- uhm- yeah, sure. I uhh- I’ll be going first, then,” my words were on disharmony as I panicked. I never learned enough etiquettes back in my kingdom. Again, I do admit that we lack in many aspects. I stood up, then Princess Cahsey bowed to me lightly. “See you,” I smiled, then I turned on my heels, walking away as Medina came to sight, escorting me back to my room. As we walked on the spot where the four of us; Me, Princess Cahsey, Prince Oliveros, and Lady Evelyn met, Lady Evelyn seemed to be standing still at the same place, as if she was waiting. I tried to walk past her without actually doing anything, but then my name rolled off her tongue. “Princess Louisiana.” I stopped on my tracks and I turned to the sides. “Do we have something to talk about, Lady Evelyn?” I tried to smile, and she returned it with a forced smile. Well, who am I to complain? We were both faking our smiles, and it was obvious. “I do wish to talk to you. It will be brief.” “Oh, go ahead. Speak now, for I still have to prepare for the formal dinner.” “Alone?” I instructed Medina to walk away and just be on stand by ahead of us for a certain while. She followed my words without questions and walked away. “So, Lady Evelyn, what is it that you wish to say?” I asked as we were left alone near the long corridors. “You’re probably a busy person, so I’m gonna be straightforward,” she breathed. “You may be the girl who’s currently at His Highness’s side for now, but that won’t be for long. I am gonna take him back when the time is right, so enjoy your time while it lasts,” her mood and expression changed pretty fast that it was straight up scary. Although I was not very shocked with the attitude that she was showing me. I have been anticipating it, and she proved me right, earlier than I expected. “I have nothing to fear. What will be, will be,” No. I’m very much threatened. I have nothing to compete against you. “Then, may the best woman win,” she smiled sweetly, and not just purely sweet. She had this sweet smile that could also pierce through your soul at the same time. After that, she walked away confidently, leaving me there, gulping on my own saliva as my heart picked up its pace. I snapped myself out from the thoughts and the worst-case scenarios that my head was playing, walking towards Medina who was patiently waiting by the end of the corridor. “Did I make you wait for too long, Medina?” I asked, sending her a weak smile. “No, Your Highness,” she replied. “Should we go now?” “Yes, please.” I let Medina walk ahead of me, and I just followed with my wobbly legs. I was still not over the brief, yet very intimidating conversation with Lady Eve. What was I thinking, wanting to compete against her? Lady Evelyn was really the standard. She had that amazing blonde hair, and those eyes with the color of the skies that perfectly complimented her hair. She was tall and her figure reminded me of mythical goddesses. If we were to be the only ideal options for the society, I’m pretty sure that she would immediately get sold out, and I’d be left there till I spoil with the every bit of me. “…cess Louisiana….” “…ighness?” She’s the standard, and I’m the description for the low. “Your Highness, Princess Louisiana Morisgor!” “Hello there!” I panicked, only to find out that Medina was the one calling me. “You called me?” “Yes, Your Highness. Multiple times now. Your head seems to be filled with… unpleasant thoughts,” she said, slowing down her pace so we could walk side by side. “What made you say so?” I asked. “You looked like you're buried on your thoughts, and you looked lousy and just… unconfident.” “Oh, did I?” I laughed nervously. “Let me tell you something about my theory regarding Lady Evelyn,” she whispered as we were by the stairs. She had this sheepish grin that was suspicious. “How did you know that my sudden change of mood was because of her?” “I can interpret things very well. Now cheer up and smile. I have some story to make you feel better,” her grin became more suspicious than ever as she giggled, gently pushing me inside my bedroom. What could it be?
