Ye aik hospital ka kamra tha jahan choti choti lights chal rahi thin. Darmiyan mein aik badi si light thi jo Shanzy ke bed ke upar lagi thi. Aas paas doctors, nurses kharay thay. Apna sar haathon mein liye woh musalsal roye ja rahi thi. Uska sara nasha utar chuka tha. "Ye maine kya kiya..." Woh khud ko dosh de rahi thi. "Main bohot buri hoon." Kuch dair mein doctors aur nurses bahar niklay to Ayesha daud kar unki taraf lapki. "Ji doctor, kya hua?" Aankhain bhi kamzor ho chuki hain, shayad woh kuch arsa dekh bhi na sake..." Doctor apni hi dhun mein bol rahe thay, lekin Ayesha ka sar chakra raha tha. "To ab kya karna hai doctor sahab?" Ayesha ko apni awaaz sunayi nahi de rahi thi. "Agar aap inhein time se na lati to inka bachna mushkil tha. Khair, inhein saans lene mein bohot problem ho rahi hai..." Woh bohot afsos se keh rahe thay. "Kya main... main andar ja sakti hoon?" Woh kisi khai se bol rahi thi. Kya woh Shanzy ka samna kar payegi? Kya kabhi Shanzy use in sab ke liye maaf kar sakegi? Kya kahin sab kuch pata chalne ke baad woh Ayesha ki taraf paltegi? Kisi sawal ka jawab uske paas nahi tha. "Haan, kyun nahi? Lekin humein abhi kuch check-ups karne hain, shayad operation bhi karna pade." Doctor ne dobara apni ainak lagayi aur aik taraf chal paray. Ayesha kuch nahi sun rahi thi aur woh kuch sunna bhi nahi chahti thi. Woh ladkhadate qadamoun se aage barhi. Samne Shanzy ke bed par nazar pari to aansuon ki ladi behne lagi. Aik doctor abhi bhi check kar raha tha. "Mujhe lagta hai saans lene mein problem hai. Inka bachna bohot mushkil hai..." Woh yeh kehta hua bahar nikal gaya. Ab kamray mein sirf Shanzy ka bejaan jism tha aur Ayesha thi jo ghabrate hue uske bed ke paas baith gayi. Ye woh Shanzy nahi thi jise woh barson se jaanti thi. Jiske saath woh bachpan mein kheli thi. Jo uske liye khana banati thi. Ye koi aur thi, jo bemaar thi ya shayad ab sab khatam ho chuka tha... Ayesha ke haath abhi tak khoon alood thay. Usne apna haath Shanzy ke haath par rakhna chaha, lekin phir kisi khayal se peeche kar liya. Aansoo toot kar Shanzy ke chehre par girne lage. Ayesha ne Shanzy ka haath tham liya... Aur phir woh na jaane kab tak us par sar rakhe roti rahi... Achanak use harkat mehsoos hui. Woh behoshi ki haalat mein ooper uthi. Shanzy ke haath mein harkat hui jo Ayesha ne tham rakha tha. Machine ki "pi pi" ki awaaz aane lagi. Ayesha ne apna haath churaya, aik nazar Shanzy ko dekha jiski aankhain abhi tak band thin, shayad woh neem behoshi mein thi. Ayesha daudti hui bahar aayi: "Doctor sahab, jaldi dekhiye kya hua! Mujhe Shanzy mein harkat mehsoos hui hai!" Ayesha ne paas kharay doctor ko mutwajjeh kiya jo kisi doosray mareez se baat kar rahe thay. Doctor Ayesha ki awaaz sun kar andar ki taraf bhaagay, baaqi doctors aur nurses bhi unke peeche thay. Usne apne khoon alood haath kholay aur dua ke liye phaila diye. Usne ye sab pehli baar kisi ke liye kiya tha. "Tumhe pata hai jab insan par mushkil waqt aata hai to use Allah se madad maangni chahiye, usse dua karni chahiye. Phir sab theek ho jata hai..." Ayesha ko school ke din yaad aaye jab Jannat ne usse ye sab kaha tha. "Sab kuch?" Nanhi Ayesha ne haath phela kar kaha. "Haan, sab kuch." Hum bas do nurses aapke ghar bhej denge jo Shanzy ka proper dhyaan rakhenge." "Ji, aapka bohot bohot shukriya doctor sahab..." Ayesha ne khud ko kehte suna. Woh waqai mein bohot hairan thi ke achanak se ye sab kaise ho gaya. "Lekin Shanzy ko ye sab pata nahi chalna chahiye..." "Ji ji, hum aapko aur aapke papa ko bohot achi tarah jaante hain. Aap bilkul befikar rahiye, Shanzy ko kuch pata nahi chalega. Aapko bas Shanzy ki jagah kisi aur ko rakhne ki zaroorat padegi." "Theek hai, woh to main arrange kar loongi... Aap kab discharge kar rahe hain Shanzy ko? Darasal raat kaafi ho gayi hai..." Ayesha ne apni kalai par bandhi ghari dekhi jo raat ke barah baja rahi thi. "Ji, bas sab sahi ho gaya hai. Aap abhi kuch dair mein Shanzy ko le ja sakti hain. Haan, unki aankhon ka thoda problem hai, unki aankhon par patti bandhni hogi..." "Ji, theek hai..." عیشا نے مسکرا کر کہا اور ڈاکٹر سے ہاتھ ملا کر دوبارہ بینچ پر بیٹھ گئی۔ اس نے اپنے ہاتھوں کو دیکھا جن سے خون اب صاف ہو رہا تھا۔ ============================================================================ It was a hospital room, dimly lit by tiny lights flickering around the walls. A large light hung over the center, focused directly on Shanzy's bed. Doctors and nurses stood nearby. The steady beeping of machines echoed through the air. Just outside the glass doors, on a bench, Ayesha sat with her head buried in her hands, crying continuously. All the intoxication had now left her system. "What have I done..." she kept blaming herself. "I'm a terrible person." After a while, the doctors and nurses stepped out, and Ayesha rushed toward them. "Doctor, what happened?" Her voice barely escaped her trembling lips. "There's a deep injury to the brain," one of the doctors explained. "We also found marks on her back—almost like something was repeatedly struck with force. Her eyesight has also weakened. She may not be able to see for some time..." The doctor continued speaking, but Ayesha's head was spinning. "So... what needs to be done now, doctor?" She couldn't even hear her own voice. "If you hadn't brought her in time, it might've been too late. She's having serious difficulty breathing..." His tone was full of concern. "Can I... can I go in and see her?" Her voice echoed like it came from a deep pit. Could she even face Shanzy now? Would Shanzy ever forgive her for all this? Would she even look at Ayesha again after knowing the truth? She had no answers. "Yes, of course. But we still need to run a few more tests. She might even need surgery." The doctor adjusted his glasses and walked away. Ayesha heard nothing now, nor did she want to. Her unsteady steps carried her forward. When her eyes finally fell on Shanzy lying on the bed, tears started streaming uncontrollably. A doctor was still inside checking her. "She's struggling to breathe. Her chances of survival are very low..." he said softly before leaving the room. Now, only Shanzy's lifeless body remained—and Ayesha, who sat by the bed, trembling. This wasn't the Shanzy she had known for years. Not the girl she had played with in childhood. Not the one who used to cook for her. This was someone else now—someone broken, or perhaps already lost... Ayesha's hands were still stained with blood. She tried to place her hand on Shanzy's, but something held her back. Tears rolled down and dropped onto Shanzy's pale face. Finally, Ayesha held her hand... and laid her head beside it, crying silently for who knows how long. Then, suddenly, she felt something— A faint movement. Ayesha lifted her head in shock. The hand she had been holding just moved. The machine started beeping—"pi... pi..." She quickly pulled her hand away and looked at Shanzy, whose eyes were still closed, perhaps in a semi-conscious state. Ayesha ran out the door. "Doctor! Please come quickly! I felt movement—Shanzy just moved her hand!" She alerted the doctor nearby, who was speaking to another patient. The doctor, alarmed by her voice, rushed toward the room. Other nurses and staff followed closely. Ayesha collapsed again onto the bench. She opened her blood-stained hands and raised them in prayer—for the first time, for someone else. "You know, when a person is in trouble, they should ask Allah for help... they should pray... and everything becomes okay..." A memory from school came rushing back— Jannat had once told her that. "Everything?" Young Ayesha had asked with her small hands raised. "Yes, everything." Jannat, wrapped in her white scarf, had replied without hesitation. That memory faded... And now, Ayesha, in tears, begged Allah to give Shanzy her life back. "Ma'am... congratulations! Shanzy has regained consciousness!" She didn't know where the doctor's voice came from—it echoed straight into her heart. "There's no need for surgery anymore. We'll send two nurses to your home to take care of her properly." "Thank you... thank you so much, doctor," Ayesha heard herself say. She was stunned—how did this miracle happen so suddenly? "But Shanzy must not find out what happened..." Ayesha said quietly, glancing at the doctor. "Of course. We know you and your father very well. Don't worry, she won't know a thing. You'll just need to arrange someone to take her place temporarily." "That's fine. I'll handle that... When will she be discharged? It's quite late already..." Ayesha looked at the watch on her wrist—it was midnight. "Everything's settled. You can take her home soon. But her eyes are still weak. She'll need to keep them bandaged for a while." "Alright..." Ayesha smiled gently and shook the doctor's hand before returning to the bench. She looked at her hands— the blood was finally beginning to wash away. =================================================================================
