Lahore mein ab sab logon ki subah hui thi aur woh sab hotelon mein aa kar naan chane khane aur baatein karne mein masroof the. Aisha bhi unhi mein se ek thi lekin woh kha nahi rahi thi aur na hi baatein kar rahi thi.
Woh bas sab ko dekh rahi thi. Hanste khelte, baatein karte, khate hue aur be fikr apna gham baantte hue log. Us ke paas koi nahi tha, woh akeli thi, bohat akeli. Waise usay wahan koi nahi jaanta tha. Haan, jo naan paka raha tha aur jo sab ko de raha tha, woh Aisha ko achi tarah se jaante aur pehchaante the lekin Aisha ka mood dekh kar woh bhi khamosh the.
Kuch dair mein badal chhanay lage aur halki halki barish shuru ho chuki thi. Woh jaanta tha ke Aisha ko abhi chai hi chahiye. Woh us ki tabiyat ko achi tarah se jaanta tha. Ab Aisha khidki se bahar dekhte hue chai ke ghont bhar rahi thi, lekin kuch tha jo usay pareshaan kiye hue tha.
Woh wahan se uthi aur bahar nikal gayi. Kisi ne usay awaaz nahi di. Woh bahar nikal kar barish mein bheegne lagi. Waiter aur hotel ke maalik ne dekha to barh kar usay chhatri thamana chahi lekin us ne inkaar kar diya. Woh is mein bheegna chahti thi. Ab barish ke qatre us ki grey jacket ko bhigo rahe the aur us ke khule baal bhi geele ho kar us ke chehre se chipakne lage. Woh kahin khayalon mein khoyi thi.
Usay yeh barishen kitni pasand thin. Woh is mein bheegne ke liye koi bhi qeemat dene ko tayyar thi, lekin aaj kuch alag tha. Shanaasa number tha. Woh halka sa muskuraayi lekin phir usay jeeb mein rakh diya.
Kam az kam woh kuch din to office bilkul nahi ja sakti thi. Aaj to bilkul bhi nahi aur na hi koi phone utha sakti thi. Woh jaanti thi ke usay hamesha se hi business karna pasand nahi tha lekin ab us ke walidain ke jaane ke baad un ki saari property usi ki to thi. Woh akloti thi.
Woh chalte hue seedha apne kamre mein aayi aur kapde badalne lagi. Kuch dair mein ek nurse darwaze ke bahar khadi thi.
"Yes..." Aisha ne boss wali tone mein kaha aur phir usay dekhne lagi.
Woh Kabeera thi, Shanze ki nurse jo us ka poore dil se khayal rakh rahi thi. Aisha ki ijazat par woh andar aayi. Tab tak Aisha kapde badal chuki thi aur kuch dair aaraam bhi kar chuki thi.
"Mujhe aapko ek zaroori baat batani thi. Kya aap is ke liye tayyar hain?"
"Ji, ji bilkul..." Aisha ka jawab ek dum naram tha, jaise ab har cheez ke liye tayyar thi.
"Darasal, Shanze ko hum bohat si dawaein de rahe the lekin bimari phailne ki bajaye jism ke ek hi hissa mein hai. Na nikalti hai aur na hi phailti hai. Dr. Amjad se bhi baat hui, woh keh rahe hain ke kuch din aur Shanze ko hospital rakhna hoga, warna us ka dimaag poori tarah se tabah ho jayega. Aap samajh sakti hain na jo main keh rahi hoon?"
Meri koi help chahiye to bataiye..." Aisha ka andaaz naram tha.
Woh nurse "Ji theek hai" keh kar wahan se chali gayi. Aisha bhi jana chahti thi lekin woh nahi gayi. Usay nahi pata tha ke woh kaise khayegi lekin usay kuch to khana tha. Subah se sirf chai ka ek cup hi to piya tha.
Woh khane ki mez par baithi kuch soch rahi thi ke doctor ki call aane lagi.
"Ji doctor sahib, ji ji main ghar par hi hoon. Okay, main aati hoon." Aisha ne pareshani ke aalam mein khana wahi chhoda aur bahar nikal gayi. Ab na jaane kya hone wala tha.

Sunlight was gently filtering in through the hotel window, where the usual hustle and bustle was going on. In Lahore, morning had already arrived, and people were gathering in hotels to enjoy naan chana and chat with each other. Aisha was one of them—but she wasn't eating, nor was she talking to anyone.
She was just watching everyone. People laughing, talking, eating, and sharing their sorrows without worry. She had no one with her—she was alone. Very alone. No one really knew her there. Yes, the man making the naan and the one serving it knew her well, but after seeing her mood, even they chose to stay silent.
After a while, clouds gathered, and a light rain began. Aisha raised her hand to call the waiter. He came running and brought her a cup of tea. He knew exactly what she needed at that moment. He understood her well. Now Aisha was sipping her tea while looking out the window—but something was clearly troubling her.
She stood up and walked outside. No one called after her. She stepped out and began walking in the rain. The waiter and the hotel owner saw her and tried to offer her an umbrella, but she refused. She wanted to get drenched.
Now, the raindrops soaked her grey jacket, and her open hair began to stick to her face. She was lost in her thoughts.
She had always loved the rain. She would give anything to feel it on her skin. But today, something felt different.
From the pocket of her black pants, her phone started to vibrate. Aisha took a while before pulling it out and looking at it. It was a familiar number.
She smiled slightly—then slipped it back into her pocket.
At the very least, she couldn't go to the office for a few days—not today, and she definitely couldn't take any calls.
She knew she never really liked business. But after her parents passed away, all of their property had come to her. She was their only child.
By the time she reached home, she was soaked from head to toe. She walked straight to her room and began changing. After a short while, a nurse was standing outside the door.
"Yes..." Aisha said in a firm, boss-like tone, then looked toward the nurse.
It was Kabeera—Shanzay's nurse, who was taking care of her with all her heart.
Upon Aisha's permission, she entered. By then, Aisha had changed and rested a bit.
"I have something important to tell you. Are you ready for it?"
"Yes, yes of course..." Aisha's voice softened instantly, as if she was now ready for anything.
"Actually, we've been giving Shanzay a lot of medicine," the nurse began,
"but instead of spreading, her illness has remained in just one part of her body. It neither spreads nor disappears. I spoke to Dr. Amjad as well. He said she needs to stay in the hospital for a few more days—or her mind could completely break down. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Aisha swallowed the lump in her throat.
"Yes, yes... take her. If you need any help from me, please tell me."
Her tone was gentle.
The nurse replied, "Alright then," and left.
Aisha wanted to go too, but she didn't.
The nurse's daughter, Ulfat, had done all the house chores and had even cooked food.
Now Aisha's steps moved toward the kitchen.
She didn't know how she would eat, but she had to eat something. Since morning, she had only had a cup of tea.
She sat at the dining table, deep in thought, when suddenly the doctor called.
"Yes, doctor... yes, I'm at home. Okay, I'm coming."
Aisha put the food aside in worry and rushed out of the house.
She didn't know what was going to happen now...
