Alexandra
I don't know what I did to deserve that my father didn't trust me enough to put me at Lucas' mercy. Yet I did everything I could to get him to give me at least a fifth of the consideration he had for Lucas, in vain. I'm going to get a job, keep paying my debts, and go back to college as soon as possible if I want to see a penny of my inheritance. I know Lucas won't have mercy on me, even though he knows it's my money he controls. I told Alisson everything and she wanted to come and support me, but I stopped her because she has more to deal with right now since she is officially introducing her boyfriend to her bastard father. She doesn't need my bad mood.
My phone starts ringing and it's Mary
- Hi sweetie, how are you doing?" she asks me as soon as I pick up the phone
I have always hated this question because for years I have not answered it sincerely
- Hello Mary, I'm fine," I lie
- Lucas told me that you had to go to the lawyer's this morning.
- Yes, I did. And guess what, my father gave full control of my inheritance to that bastard. Do you think I deserve this?" I ask her in tears.
- He certainly had his reasons. Lucas has his faults but he's never going to leave you in the lurch.
- That's really not knowing him very well," I said, bursting out laughing. "And the worst part is that he wants me to live with him for three f*****g years.
- "You know they really wanted you to be close to him. And now he's the only family you have left. Put your differences aside and try to live together, okay sweetie?"
-No, I don't want to see him, let alone live with him.
I have the feeling that this idea came from Sarah because she was always sad that Lucas and I didn't get along and I know that she would have done everything to get me closer to him and I have the conviction that her friend will be the one to control that we respect this point
- Don't be stubborn, Alexandra?" she reprimands me
I'm not going to live with the person who blackmailed me for a year as if nothing had happened. We hang up after making plans to see each other, soon.
Days go by and I finally find a job that allows me to barely pay my debt and support myself. Unfortunately, two weeks later, I received an eviction notice from my apartment because of unpaid rent. I called Lucas but he didn't take my calls and it was Alisson who finally lent me money to find another temporary place to live since I didn't want to go back to my parents even though the house was empty.
After three months of living in torment, I call Lucas again and the bastard still doesn't answer me. I called the lawyer to find out when the will will be executed and he told me in two months, maybe. But I can't wait that long because I'm going to fall behind on my loan very soon.
So, I did what I never thought I would do in my life, I flew to New York and thanks to Mary I was able to get the address of Lucas' office. And to increase the chances that he will accept to see me, I plan to pretend to be Mary. I even made a fake ID for myself. I just have to perform well to make him believe that I don't hate him. Also, I chose this place full of his employees, because I don't want to stay with him alone especially after what happened last time.
I arrive at the reception
- Hello, I would like to see Mr. Lucas Johnson. Tell him it's Mary Quinn, he'll know who she is."
She checks my ID and then contacts him on her intercom
- You can wait here. He's busy right now but he'll see you right after," she says.
I sit in the waiting room and the minutes turn into hours. I'm sure he knows it's me. He would never leave his mother's friend on hold thinking for so long. I start writing down everything I need to talk to him about. And at five o'clock, everyone starts to leave. I thought coming to his office was the best idea, but I'm starting to regret it.
His personal assistant just told me to follow him. She is as beautiful as she is fake, with her lip injections, her Botox, and her E-cup. I still can't help but notice that this is the kind of girl Lucas likes.
I walk into his office, and he doesn't even bother to lift his head from his screen to greet me. His assistant closes the door and I take a deep breath to keep from having a panic attack.
I sit down across from him and wait for him to talk to me. I remember the notes I had made to myself of the dos and don'ts. And the first one is to stay calm and not get carried away, no matter what he tells me. He finally stops fiddling with his laptop and turns his attention back to me with a broad smile.
