Chapter 6

2730 Words
Hunter’s POV: We spent the rest of the day yesterday helping Justin move into his new room. Emily ordered us some pizza so we wouldn’t have to go out to the chow hall with everyone after what happened with her sisters. After dinner, Emily decided she needed to go back to her room. She seemed to be more comfortable with us as the day went on, and it was like it was almost back to normal. I still wanted to have her be asleep in my arms, but I knew that she was fighting a battle that I can’t even imagine going through. Justin and I played video games through the night in his room after he shopped around for some new furniture. He brought up his old bed and it looked tiny compared to the room size, so he started there but took a break after seeing the prices of everything. We can’t wait until we start getting paid for being in the position we are going to be in instead of the salary we make just being bodyguards. I ended up heading back to my room at about 5 A.M. and just sat at the edge of my bed looking at the contract that Alpha John had given me. The folder looked like a plain folder, but inside of it was the contents of the rest of my life. It was too overwhelming to even think about, I just sat on my bed without opening it until there was a knock on my door. I nearly jumped out of my skin. I quickly shoved the folder underneath my pillow and got up to go over to check the door. I rub my face as I open the door. “Elijah.” I was both shocked and surprised that he would be the one at my door. He gives me a half baked smile and takes a deep breath. “Good morning, Young Alpha. Have you seen Emily?” He stands in my doorway with normal training clothes. Long sleeve and basketball shorts, but he looks as though he is on his way to training. I quickly look at my watch to see what time it is. It’s almost noon, which is way past training time, so it doesn’t make any sense for him to look as though he hasn’t done anything yet. “I, uhh. No, not since last night.” I start to feel a small amount of panic rising within me. “Why do you ask?” “Well, she didn’t show up to her training earlier today. I figured she would be with you or the other boy, but it doesn't seem like she is with either of you.” He looks less than pleased as he turns to go down the hallway. “Wait, what?” I ask as I reach to grab my jacket from beside the door. I throw it around my shoulders and shut the door behind me. “When she didn’t show up to morning training with me, I thought something might be up. She is not in her room so I figured she would be with you or the other one. I knocked on Justin’s door and no one answered. I only heard one heartbeat coming from there, so I assumed that she was not there. I then walked over to your room and asked you, to which you promptly told me that you have not seen her. Therefore, she is elsewhere.” Elijah said without missing a step. My mind began to race as I tried to keep up with Elijah. “Have you talked to Alpha about this?” “Why would I?” Elijah looks at me over his shoulder and continues walking. “Well, he is her father.” I say as I finally catch up to him. “Just because he is her father does not mean that he knows her whereabouts. She is over the age of 18 so she technically doesn’t have to tell him anything if she does not want to.” “Well, yeah. But still. He is also the Alpha. We could have her found within minutes if she is in the territory.” We take a sharp turn around a corner, and then we start climbing up the stairs. “I am fully aware. I am going to be talking with the Alpha about this, but I am going to talk with him as the Alpha, not Emily’s father.” Elijah doesn’t even seem to be the slightest bit out of breath. I do my best to keep up with him as we reach Alpha John’s office. Elijah takes a deep breath as he surveys the door. An awkward amount of time passes before anything else happens. I roll my eyes and open the door to walk in. I don’t need to be announced into the office or have permission anymore since I am so far along in my training. The only way I wouldn’t be allowed into the office is if there was a sign on the door telling people not to even knock. We walk in and Alpha John looks at us. “Hello, what seems to be the issue?” He asks, eyeing Elijah. “Emily is unable to be found this morning, and we were hoping you had an idea of where she was.” Elijah wastes no time getting to the point. “I see.” Alpha John takes off his glasses and sets them on his desk. “I have not seen her since our discussion yesterday.” “I see. Well, is there any way that we can locate her within the pack? She missed out on morning training with me and was not with either of her mates.” Elijah asks. “Well, yes. But I don’t see why we have to go to such great measures. She is probably just out for a run or something. I have seen her in the past on runs just inside the territory.” Alpha John explains. He doesn’t seem to be worried about hearing that his daughter is missing. “Alpha, no disrespect, but I think I know your daughter a little bit better than you do.” Elijah hides a smirk as Alpha John shoots him a glare. “What else is there other than she missed morning training?” Alpha asked. He tried to not show that Elijah’s words messed with him, but he wasn’t doing that great of a job at hiding it. “No, not yet. I just didn’t want to stir up some unwarranted panic within the pack. But, if you wouldn’t mind, I can check where she is with your blood and a map of the territory.” Elijah says calmly. He holds his hand out to Alpha. “I am not sure that I want to give you my blood. Are you sure that you can control yourself?” Alpha John looks at Elijah skeptically. Elijah lets out an exasperated sign. “Alpha, if I was unable to control my blood lust, I would not be here. I have had nearly a millennium to learn to control it, and I can assure you, I am in complete control. I only need the blood because you are related to her by blood, so your blood will be able to help me pinpoint her in a locator spell. Hints the need for your blood and a map of the territory.” Alpha John still looks hesitant at him, but gives in and hands over a small map of the territory. He pricks the tip of his finger and lets a few drops of blood pool in the center of the map. “Now what?” He says as he picks up a tissue to wipe his finger as it heals. “Well, I do the spell. If she is in the territory, it will show us where. If she isn’t, it will leave the map in the direction she left.” Elijah rolls up his sleeves. He starts chanting with his hands over the map, but nothing seems to be happening. I lean over to get a better look but still, nothing is happening. The blood remains in the same spot and is starting to sink into the map. Elijah opens his eyes to see and rubs one hand on his mouth while the other is on his hip. He seems to be distraught by the results of the spell. “Nothing happened.” I exclaim softly. “Yes, I am fully aware that nothing happened.” Elijah frustratingly picks up the map and crumples it up before chucking it across the room. Surprisingly, the map makes it into the trash can. “What does this mean?” Alpha seems a bit worried now. “This means someone is cloaking Emily.” Elijah covers his eyes with his hand. I can feel my eyes widen, but Alpha still seems to be confused. “Why would someone be cloaking her?” Alpha asks impatiently. “Well, it could be one of two things.” Elijah looks between the two of us. “Either someone doesn’t want us to find her, or she is dead.” My heart sinks in my chest and I stumble backwards as I stare at the ground. Dead? She can’t be dead! I can still feel the connection with her, there is no way she is dead. “Cade can still feel the mate connection to her, so I don’t think she is dead.” I blurt out, looking up at Elijah. “That’s good. That just means someone has her that has a witch on her side.” He clenches his jaw. “Well, could it be Svetlana? She definitely has the power to do this.” Alpha John sounds more panicked now. “No, she would have felt some sort of message if she had taken Emily. My mother may be powerful and sneaky, but she always wants the credit for doing something like this.” Elijah taps his finger on his chin. “This could have been an attack put on by anyone in the council just to get on my mother’s good side. If that is the case, we should be seeing something soon from the council about it.” “Could have been? So you are saying that there could also be different options?” I ask with an urgent tone. “Well, she is the daughter of the President and Alpha of one of the World’s largest packs, so it could have been someone coming after you.” Elijah gestures to Alpha John. “Or, it could literally be anyone in the supernatural world that knows she is a True Alpha. Her kind are extremely rare, and witches use her blood for elaborate spells. One, that my mother found out, has to be channeling her directly, not just the power that her blood possesses.” “So, basically. The entire supernatural world is going to be after Emily?” I ask. “Yes. She is, after all, the most powerful werewolf that will exist in our lifetime.” Elijah raises his eyebrows at me. “No, there is no way that anyone could have gotten into our territory with everything that I have put into place. All of our guards are supposed to be on double duty since Hunter and Justin were taken from the grounds. There is no way someone could have gotten into the territory without someone from the pack letting them in.” Alpha John stands up a little taller. “I will have everyone start searching the territory for her. She has to be in the territory somewhere.” I am honestly shocked at the reactions of Alpha on this. He seems genuinely concerned for Emily, and I haven’t seen this on him since the day that she was supposed to be induced into the pack and it was announced that she was actually his daughter, therefore a pack member the moment she arrived at the territory. Alpha gave Elijah some more blood so that he could do another spell of some sorts. I had to run all the way to Emily’s room to see if I could get a hair or something like that of Emily’s for the spell. I grabbed her hairbrush and raced back up the stairs to Alpha’s office. Once I get back to the office, I hand Elijah the brush. He pulls a single strand of hair off the brush and places it on another map of the territory that had Alpha’s blood on it. Alpha is pacing the floor with worry written all over his face. “What are you doing?” I can’t help but ask. “This spell will confirm if she is within the fences of the territory. The person that cloaked her may be able to hide her exact location from me, but that does not mean that I will not be able to tell if she is close. If the hair catches fire, she is within the area on the map.” Elijah gets set and lights a candle beside the map. Alpha stops his pacing as Elijah clears his throat. He begins chanting and for a moment, nothing happens. Then, a small amount of smoke starts to rise, and suddenly the hair ignites. A sigh of relief falls over all of us. My mood suddenly changes as I realize what this means. “That means whoever has her is a part of this pack.” I growl. “Indeed.” Elijah doesn’t seem too happy with the situation either. “Alpha, I…” Elijah starts, but is cut off. “I will be getting to the bottom of whoever has taken my daughter, and trust me. They will not be happy when I get a hold of them.” Alpha’s eyes start to glow red and I feel like there is a force pushing me down. “Alpha.” Elijah insists. Alpha John looks in his direction. “I was just going to say, I will help in any way that I can to find her.” As he finishes his statement, Justin comes busting through the door wearing the same clothes he was wearing when I left his room last night. His eyes are filled with worry as he lets the door shut behind him. “I got the message from Alpha. What can I do?” He immediately says. “For now, we just have to find her.” I say. Emily’s POV: When I wake up, I can hardly see anything. My vision is so hazy and my body feels like I have been run over by a truck. My bones ached and my blood felt like actual poison in my veins. The last thing that I remember is leaving Justin’s room after helping him get settled. All he had was that tiny bed, and I wasn’t about to stay in the same room as them when we all slept. Just didn’t feel right to me. When I left the room, I headed directly down to my room, but I didn’t make it all the way to my room. I remember the splitting headache that made me fall to my knees, and then I was struck in the back of the head. Now, I am here. Wherever here is. I look up and try to focus really hard on the small light fixture above me. Just to the left of the light is a small vent that some sort of vaper is escaping from. From the way that my body feels, I’d say that it was wolfsbane, but that shouldn’t be enough to keep me feeling this way. I force myself off the ground and use the wall to help me stand. It feels like the walls are fully cement. The small light doesn’t emit much, but it’s enough for me to focus and see some sort of claw marks along the walls. Rylee, do you have any idea where we are? Not one clue. The only smell I’m picking up on is ammonia. Great. I can’t even remember any smells from when I was attacked. I guess there is something to what Elijah was trying to teach me.
