Chapter 3

3000 Words
Justin’s POV: Hunter and I practically had to sprint to keep up with Emily as she led us to her room. I have been to her room before, but never in it. I felt like I needed to be a gentleman with her and not try to push her in any way, so anytime that I hung out with her, I never went into her room.  Emily suddenly stopped, making Hunter run into her and I into Hunter.  “Sorry, I didn’t mean to run into you.” Hunter fumbled on his words and we both backed up and acted like we are the biggest doofuses ever.  “It’s okay.” Emily giggles a little bit and looks between the two of us. “Are you two alright?” “Of course, why do you ask?” I blurt out.  “Well, because you both are acting like little puppies.” She raises her eyebrow and smiles a little bit.  “Well, you’re the one that literally dropped out of our lives for like a month, and then text both of us like nothing ever happened, telling us that you wanted to talk.” I squint my eyes at her and give her a half smile.  “Right.” She presses her lips together and bounces on the balls of her feet. “Well, I just need to see if Lynn is in the room. Stay here, alright?” She turns back on her heels and walks over to her door.  “Lord, it’s like a teenage crush when I see her.” I sigh. Hunter looks at me and nods his head in agreement.  “She makes me lose all sense of reality and just… Makes me wish the world would disappear around us.” Hunter smiles at the ground as he takes out his phone. He opens his texts from Emily and scrolls through them really fast before Emily returns.  “We are good to go, Lynn is not there so you guys can come in.” She smiles and walks back into her room.  Hunter and I both look at each other and then back at Emily. We shift on our feet but don’t budge. Emily looks back at us and rolls her eyes.  “Right, you guys won’t come into the room unless I need you to.” She taps her finger on her chin. “Alright, well. Do you want to have this conversation in your room, Hunter?” She raises her eyebrows at him as he stands there looking uncomfortable. “Look, if you want to have this conversation in my room, we can do that. It’s fine. But, I am not even aware of what the conversation will be about.” Hunter replies to her as Emily walks out of her room and locks the door.  “Did you not read my messages?” Emily looks at him confused.  “Well, no. I was in the meeting with your father when all the messages came through. So, yeah. I haven’t gotten to read them all.” He rubs the back of his neck with his hand.  “Ahh. Well, we can discuss this in your room. It’ll be fine.” Emily then takes off down the hallway and to the side staircase, where she climbs them to the third floor.  When we get to Hunter’s room, she steps to the side and let’s Hunter unlock it before she walks in. She stands a few feet into the room and just stands there with her eyes closed, not looking at either of us. I can hear her heartbeat racing as she tries to calm herself down. She rubs the palms of her hands on the hems of her shirt. She does that when she gets nervous. “Alright. Can we please sit on the couch?” She asks.  “Yeah, of course.” Hunter looks surprised but gestures for us to go over to the couch. We all walk over and take a seat. Hunter and I on one couch, and Emily on the other. We all awkwardly situated ourselves for a moment before we stopped shuffling around. Hunter and I both look towards Emily, who is staring at her hands while she fidgets with her thumbs.  “So…” I say as I clear my throat.  “I asked the two of you to meet with me because it dawned on me how unfair it was to you guys that I stopped talking to you guys without an explanation.” Emily starts and I can hear how shaky her voice is. “As you both know, you are both my mates. I love spending time with the two of you, but I have found that if I spend time with just one of you, it makes me want to have the other one there as well. I don’t think it’s fair to you that I am that way, so I tried to avoid the both of you until I could figure it all out. But, as it turns out, that made things so much worse for me. Every time that either of you were hurt, lonely, or upset, I felt it. That’s why I ran up to my fathers office just a little bit ago.” “Hold on, so you're telling us that the reason you were avoiding us was because you wanted to be with both of us?” I jumped in before she could continue with anything else.  “Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.” She looks a little hurt and I watch as she tries to make her figure smaller.  “Emily, we don’t care if it’s all three of us hanging out, or just two of us. Hunter and I talked about it and we don’t want to try to force you to choose. We thought it best if the two of us ‘date’ you so that you could figure out which one of us you’d rather be with.” I try to explain to her.  She looked up at both of us and I could tell that I had just made her mad. “You decided this, and didn’t even tell me? You basically decided that I would have to choose between the two of you, and that was that?” She starts to raise her voice but I could tell that she was trying to keep calm about it.  “Hey, you up and shut us out of your life without talking to us.” Hunter snaps.  “That…” Emily starts but I could see the wheels turning in her head. She lets out a loud groan and flops back into the couch, putting a pillow over her face. “Yes, I know that I screwed up with that. I just thought that I could use that time to try and figure out why I have two mates.” She moves her face so that she can look at us from underneath the pillow.  “And you thought we wouldn’t want to be a part of that?” I ask looking over at her.  “Well, to be honest, yeah. I thought that you guys had enough of your agenda so I took it on myself.” Emily sits up from the couch and puts the pillow in her lap.  “It doesn’t matter if I am in the middle of World War 3, I will help you with anything you are going through.” Hunter says as he sits forward.  “Yeah, I’d rather never sleep again than have you go through something like that on your own.” I add on to what Hunter said.  Emily squeezes the pillow and looks down at the floor. We sit in silence again before Emily gets up and walks over to us. I start scooting away from Hunter so Emily can sit between us but she stops me. She motions for us to move closer together and then sits on my lap. I lean against the back of the couch and just let her do whatever she is going to do before doing anything. As she sits on my lap, she leans over and lays on Hunter’s lap.  “Is this okay?” She asks shyly.  I hold my hands in the air, confused about what to do with them before she takes arm and pulls my hands down to her side. She grabs Hunter’s hands to lead one onto her shoulder and the other onto her head.  I relax my hands and rub her hip bone. “Of course this is fine.” I sigh and smile at her. I feel my whole body relax the longer she stays here. Hunter carefully plays with her hair as I continue to gently rub her hip.  “So, did you find anything out?” Hunter asks, breaking the moment of peace.  I take a deep breath to kind of wake up my body as I stretch a little bit. “Yeah, what did you find out?”  “Well, I didn’t actually do the research.” Emily says.  Hunter and I both shoot her a confused look. “But, you said…?” I trail off while looking at her.  “Yes, I know. But I never researched anything. I would sit down to do it, and I would end up being overwhelmed by everything. I mean, what if I find something out that I didn’t want to know.” She got up off of us and stood a few feet from us with one hand on her head while the other hand was perched on her hip.  The sudden loss of her body heat made me shiver.  “Well, this is why we needed to do this together. We can all figure this out.” I say as I push myself up off the couch. Hunter follows suit and we walk over to Emily.  “We can all try to find things out. It’s not like you have to do it all alone.” Hunter says as he puts his hand on her shoulder.  Emily turns towards him. She gives him a small smile and I can feel the jealousy rising in me. “I know. I just didn’t want you guys to have something else to add to your plates. You guys are already doing so much.” “Uh uh, we have already talked about this.” I say stepping towards them. “It doesn’t matter if there is an attack on the pack, we want to be with you in whatever you are going through.”  “Yeah, I know. And I really appreciate it.” Emily rubs her arm.  “Just because you are the almighty True Alpha, doesn’t mean you have to take on the world by yourself.” Hunter smiles and gives her a little side hug. “No, just have to save your ass from killing your best friend.” Emily sassily says and pokes Hunter in the side.  “Which, I am forever grateful for your timing, my darling.” I dramatically bow to her.  She laughs before forcing a serious look on her face and nodding her head at me. “It was my pleasure to choke the living daylights out of the witch.”  I laugh as Hunter rolls his eyes. “Come on, we should grab something to eat. Since we haven’t eaten together in a while, do you want to sit together in the chow hall?” Hunter says as he walks over to his closet.  “I need to find Elijah first. I kind of left him at the training facility after I told him I would be back.” Emily scrunches her nose and looks towards Hunter.  “That’s cool. I’ll come with you.” Hunter grabs a hoodie and starts to throw it on as he walks back over towards us.  “Me too, I’ve got nothing to do other than read through this contract thingy.” I say as I walk over to the couch to pick up the folder that Alpha handed me earlier.  “Oh yeah, I better put that away.” Hunter runs over to the couch and grabs the other folder. He awkwardly lifts it in the air and then runs over to his night stand, where he puts the folder in the drawer. He turns back to us and claps his hands together. “Alright, you guys ready?” “Sure. Just a small fyi, Elijah likes to randomly throw things at me for training purposes.” Emily puts air quotes around ‘training purposes’ and shakes her head as we walk out into the hallway.  “I’m going to drop this off in my room real quick.” I say as I hold up my folder. I take a few steps and open my new room. I run in and slide my contract in between my mattress and box spring that just sits in the middle of this huge room. I let out a sigh and turned to leave. I’m caught off guard when I run into someone. “Oh f**k!” I yelled as my immediate reaction was to shove the person.  The sound of a body slamming onto the floor echos in my room and I look down to see Rebecca sitting on the floor. “God, that’s a way to greet a lady!” She says with her English accent as she rubs her wrist.  “Sorry.” I say while helping her up. “I didn’t notice you were even in here.”  Rebecca starts wiping herself off and glares at me. “You haven’t paid any attention to me these last few months. I haven’t even gotten a smile in the dining hall.” She flips her hair and looks at me with her smile that she gives me when she wants something. “But all can be forgiven with a little bit of passion.” She takes a step towards me and goes to put her arms around my head.  I dodge her and step to the side. “That’s great and all, but becks. I can’t, okay? I can’t do this anymore.”  She looks at me hurt. “What are you saying?”  I sigh and put my hands in my pockets. “I just can’t anymore. Not with you.”  “Oh, so now I’m just not attractive to you?” She shakes her head and puts her pouty face on.  I roll my eyes. “Rebecca. You know that’s not true.” She smiles and bites her lower lips. “Yeah, you could never not find me attractive.” She seductively walks towards me. “So tell me, why the sudden disinterest?” She puts her hand on my chest and slides it upward while she tries to get closer to me with her mouth.  I grab her hand and step to the side again. “I just can’t, okay?” I gently put her hand down and started walking to the door before stopping. “How did you even get into my room?” I ask, turning to face her.  “Oh, well simple really. My father told me you had moved and I just picked the lock. Not that difficult. You know better than anyone else that I get what I want when I want it, and I don’t care what I have to do to get it.” She swings her arms in front of her body while raising her eyebrow at me.  “Yeah, well. I’m changing the locks on this room and I really don’t want you to get in here again.” I say with a stern voice. “Now, please. I am doing my best to be nice about this. Please leave.” I point to the door and she just looks at me.  “Whatever you say, hot stuff. You will be begging me to come back one way or another.” She turns and walks away, making sure to pop her hips out with every step. She stops with the door open and looks back at me with a smile. She blows me a kiss and then continues walking.  Good lord, that woman is going to be the death of me, and not in a good way. I made a mental note to replace the locks and headed out to the hallway, where Emily and Hunter were waiting. When I got to the hallway, both of them were looking at me with different looks.  “What happened?” Hunter asks first with a bit of shock in his voice.  “Yeah, what happened?” Emily sounded pissed at me. Of course she would be mad, a woman just walked out of my room and blew me a freaking kiss while leaving.  I clench my fists and start walking. “Rebecca thought she could go into my room and just wait there for me. It’s something she has done for a long time. It’s always annoyed me, but I told her that we couldn't happen anymore.” “Anymore?” Emily looked at me confused. I let out a low growl as I stop walking and look back at Emily. “Yes, anymore. Since you came into my life, I haven’t really done anything with her. But before you, she was kind of my hook up person.” I admit. I can feel the blood rush to myself as I look at Emily, who is clearly unhappy.  “Let’s just talk about this stuff later, okay?” Hunter butts in. “Let’s go to the facility.” He starts walking past me.  I take a deep breath and force myself to look happy. “Good idea.” I say lifting my eyebrows and shaking my head.  “Fine.” Emily says with an attitude.  Thank you so much Rebecca, you are so helpful.
