Emily’s POV:
“Are you serious? You’re siding with them!” My heart is pounding in my chest as I look my father in the eyes.
“Emily, listen…” He sticks his hands out in defense. “I know this sounds insane…”
I slam my hands on the desk, slightly frightening everyone in the room. “Insane? No, this sounds like you are picking them over me. Like you are going to let them walk all over me and continue to tell me that I can’t do anything in return.”
“Emily…” My father starts again, but I am too angry to let him even speak.
“Don’t you ‘Emily’ me.” I growl at him. My fists start glowing purple and I feel a hand on my shoulder. I’m glad the boys came with me to talk with my dad, but at the same time, it kind of annoys me that even a touch on the shoulder from one of them calms me down when I want to scream at my father.
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding in and released my hands. I refocus my attention on my dad, who is just sitting there with a dumb look on his face. “You told me that I was just as much of your daughter as they are.”
“And I stand by that.” He stands up a little straighter than before. “This has nothing to do with you being my daughter.”
“It has everything to do with me being your daughter. You are defending Victoria for slapping me across the face! And your wife, who yelled at me in the hallway for whatever reason. Both had no right to do what they did.” I lift my head and c**k my head to the side. “You're lucky I can control my emotions well enough to not throw both of those rages across the room.”
“Now wait just a minute, young lady. You may be my daughter, but you cannot talk about your Luna that way.” My father boomed in his Alpha tone, showing his Alpha eyes. Hunter and Justin bowed their heads but I didn’t budge.
“She is not my Luna.” I growl, and I can feel my own eyes glowing.
My father begins to pace in frustration with me. He takes a deep breath and walks over to me. “She may not be your Luna, but she is the Luna of this pack. You are looked at as a powerful wolf and everyone in this pack looks up to you. If you start disrespecting Kate, everyone will. I cannot have that on my hands.”
“Then tell your Luna not to talk to me like that.” I say through gritted teeth.
There was a knock on the door and we all looked over to it. It opened and Hunter's dad popped his head around the corner. “Uh, John? Kate is asking for you.”
My father lets out a sigh and pinches the bridge of his nose. “Of course she is. I’ll be right there.”
“She’s quite upset about something. Might want to hurry before she blows a top.” Austin shoots a look over to Hunter, who is already death-glaring him.
My dad waves him away and Austin shuts the door.
“So, you are going to just leave this conversation to go to your damsel claiming to be in distress.” I fold my arms across my chest and pop my hip out.
“Don’t give me that Emily.” My father growls at me without looking at me. “I missed 18 years of your life, and it’s not like I really had a choice…”
“You had a choice. You chose to leave my mother, to leave me. Just like you are doing now.” I shake my head and can’t hide the hurt in my voice as it cracks.
Justin and Hunter stand there awkwardly as my father looks at me with a look that almost breaks me. “Emily, I did it to protect you.”
“That didn’t go great, now did it?” I hold my look at him and I can tell my words are touching a sore subject, but I honestly don’t care. I have so much that I need to say to him that I just let it all out. “I will always be your second concern, won’t I? I’m the daughter that you didn’t raise because you left me when I was just a baby. You tried to deny me when I first arrived to this pack, told me to keep that to myself.”
“Emily…”
“You never wanted me to be here, did you?” I ask, trying to hide the fear of the answer from my voice.
He looks at me with regret written all over his face. I don’t have to be a mind reader to know his answer. He never wanted me to come to the pack.
A single tear falls from my eye onto my cheek. “That’s what I thought.”
“Emily, it’s not what you think.” He begs of me, but I turn to walk away. “Emily Hope Harmon, you sit down and listen to me.” He says sternly as he grabs my arm tos top me from walking away.
I turn and face him. He looks at me with a stern look on his face that I have never seen from him before. It’s kind of scary but I try not to let that show.
“I may not be your rightful Alpha, but I am still your father.” He says just as sternly as the look he is giving me.
I look at my arm where his hand is holding onto me. He lets go and motions for me to go back over to the chairs. I do so, and take a seat.
“I made some horrible choices in my life, and yes. When you showed up, a part of me never wanted you to come back in my life. Things are so much different than I could have imagined them being when you were born. But, that is not to say that I still feel that way. I love that you came to this pack, and that I get to see what a wonderful woman you have grown up to be. I regret not being there for all the little moments, but you have to understand some things.” He puts his hands in his pockets and stands in front of me. “When I left that day, I thought you would be safe. But I was told that you died. So, I grieved you but eventually moved on with my life that I built with Kate and this pack. When you showed up, well. Everything kind of fell apart. Your mother was considered an omega, and it was almost like committing suicide on the pack as a whole if I brought in an omega as a Luna. I see now that it shouldn’t have mattered. No, I didn’t want you here in the beginning, but I wouldn’t have it any other way now.” He put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it three times.
“I’m glad to hear you say that.” I say, fighting back the tears.
Like clockwork, the door bursts open and the she-devil herself walks in. “I thought I told that i***t of a second in charge that I was looking for you!” She yelled as she scans the room.
“He did, but I had some stuff to straighten out with these three first.” He stands up straight and walks over to her.
“Better have been about the way they treated my little angels in the chow hall earlier. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Leaving them standing there like that while everyone was looking at them. My poor babies were so embarrassed.” Kate made a face at us.
Hunter and Justin shoot each other a look as I have to swallow a growl.
“Let’s take this somewhere else, shall we?” My father leads Kate out of the office and shuts the door behind him.
“Can you freaking believe her?” Justin can hardly contain his sarcasm.
“They were the embarrassed ones?” Hunter chimes in.
“Whatever. They deserved to be left there with the way they attacked you.” Justin holds his hand out to me to help me up. I take it and force a smile on my face.
“I can’t believe that my father is married to someone like that.” I say, trying to match their energy.
We basically roast Kate and my half-sisters the whole way to Justin's room, where we spend the rest of the day setting it all up for him to officially live in. The boys played some basketball while I just sat and admired the two of them. Maybe it is unfair that I have two mates, but you know what. I love them both.
