CHAPTER 5

THIRD PERSON POV "You are a goddamn vampire," Alpha Chase said with regret and pain. His jaws clenched, and his palm was balled into a fist. His stern glare on Anya shot intense anger into her as she stirred in her sleep. His heart was in denial of the obvious truth, but his brain was already accepting the fact. The battle between his heart and brain made things more intense and tough for him. Despite the ugly truth, he never once broke eye contact with Anya. He got lost in her enthralling beauty, which somehow was now becoming a sign of weakness for him. Right now, he should have ordered the guards to take her away, but he didn't. "Her wounds are healed," Cole, Alpha Chase's inner wolf, said. Alpha Chase ran his hands through his thick black hair as he sniffled. During this little process of his, he stood up from the bed he was sitting on and paced the room. "I f*****g know that, Cole. I clearly saw her when she was all bruised up when I carried her some days ago, but now her clean skin is nothing compared to those bruises," he said. "That means she is not a complete vampire, Chase. You are so dumb," Cole said, and Alpha Chase stopped in his tracks. "She is a hybrid, not a full vampire. Half werewolf, half vampire. She got bruised then due to the vervain on the border, but now she is as clean as a whistle because her werewolf part has overridden the effect," Chase said once again. For the very first time, Alpha Chase felt like an i***t. The facts being presented to him were things he should already know. He kept wondering why he called her a vampire when her body was clean with no sign of bruises. "Why did I mention vampire, not hybrid?" He asked no one in particular. Chase, his closest companion and his second half, went AWOL, and Alpha Chase got no answer from anybody. No one knew about her being a hybrid. They all saw her bruised and injured like a typical vampire who crossed the borderline. Apart from those he had ordered to take care of her, no one knew about this. Telling them—the very least he could do—wouldn't just clear their doubt, especially the elders. "Then you can show them her body," Cole said. "NO!" The intensity of the answer and the anger that laced underneath made Cole wince in fear. He knew better than to say anything, as he just lay low and allowed Alpha Chase to do his thinking. The sudden obsession over Anya and the overprotection he had shown her hadn't meant anything to him, not until now. He gave her the utmost treatment she needed despite not knowing her from anywhere, and now that his wolf brought up the idea of showing her body to the elders just to clear her of all accusations, he flared up. Not knowing what to do or think, he ventured towards the door, and as he opened it to step out of the room, he saw his mother, who was trying to get into the room. "What the hell are you doing here, Mum?" Before his mum could reply, he turned to the guards, his eyes shooting death glares at them. "I told you not to allow ANYONE here!" "We are sorry, Alpha. But the Luna said she is here to see you, and we can't defy her orders, Your Majesty," the guard said with a shaking voice and bowed head. LUNA. The word rang through Alpha Chase's ears, and all that the guard said after that word was just sentences to the deaf. His mother was still the Luna of the pack until he found his mate—who he had not seen yet. At the thought of his 'mate,' his heart accelerated, and his eyes involuntarily moved to where Anya was. "What's wrong?" His mother said as she moved closer to him to soothe his uncalming nerves, but Alpha Chase stepped back in an attempt to dodge his mother's touch. "Why are you here, Mother?" His mother ignored his question as she moved towards Anya. She scanned Anya from head to toe, looking for any sign of a bruise, as she had seen the other day, but she was seeing none now. "She is clean," she said, and her response got Alpha Chase to smirk. "Oh yes. She is f*****g clean. No sign of any bruises nor any injuries. She is not a vampire," Alpha Chase said, the last part hoping his mother wouldn't find out that it was a lie. "Or she is a hybrid," his mother said, shooting him glares he couldn't avoid. "I know what I saw the other day. She is definitely a vampire, but now that she is clean, she is a hybrid. But what kind of hybrid is she?" "Werewolf and Vampire, of course?" Alpha Chase said, posing his absolute fact as a question. "Or a witch and a vampire. And thank goodness, you know quite well what happened to witches and vampires, as you passed the orders yourself," his mother said, hitting the last calm nerve he had been holding onto. "You are not setting a good example to people around your age when you break the law you ought to abide given the fact that you are a ruler. And you will make matters worse if you are ever trying to bend the laws you made for her." "Get out!" He ordered, and immediately the door was opened by the guard—who was hoping that the Luna would abide by the Alpha's rule without him carrying the order out for him. "I will. But you need to brace yourself up for what is to come. She is not allowed here if she is 'that' hybrid," his mother said and left without sparing him a look. Immediately his mother left, the anger in him rose, and he barged out of the room. Without taking more than a few steps, his wolf, Cole, came out. Alpha Chase shifted into his wolf and ran out of the pack house. 'No, no, no, I can't be wrong. She is a werewolf and a vampire. I have never been wrong. She can't be a witch. She can't,' Cole roared as he ran farther. 'She needs to wake up and tell me who she really is. She is meant to stay here, she has to be a werewolf,' Cole growled louder.
