Chapter Thirty-Three - Nasty Fight

1242 Words
Sam's POV It's been a couple of weeks now since I last saw Zen. And Rome was right, it did helped when he was around. My mind was too focused on being a "make-believe girlfriend" to be thinking about something or someone else. Vanessa did as I said and kept her promise. She didn't tell Rome about Zen. She didn't mention anything about Zen either, it could only mean that she's more than supportive of me and Rome's relationship. Word spread like wildfire. By the time it was almost the pre-graduation ball, everyone in the school already knew about it. Of course Rome, he couldn't be more proud. He held his head up high whenever we walked down the hallway and everyone would gawk and stare at us. Sometimes I think that Rome is really taking this stuff way too seriously. I wonder if this really was all pretend to him. "Penny for your thoughts?" He asked while taking a seat beside me with a tray full of food. "It's nothing." I lied. "Well then, if it's nothing then let's eat lunch, shall we? I'm starving!" "Sure!" "May I join you guys?" I looked up to see a smiling Vanessa. "Sure, we were just getting started to eat." I answered. "Great! I'm just in time then!" Vanessa then took a seat opposite of us. We were halfway eating our lunch when we heard a loud smash. When I looked at the direction where the comotion was, there were two people fighting and I could tell that it was getting heated as the other boy who stood up had blood dripping from his nose and the side of his lips to his white shirt. I wasn't supposed to be involved because the fighting that only concerns me is the one inside and near the classroom. "Aren't you going to break them apart?" Asked Rome. "I'm a girl Rome, for Pete's sake." I replied, annoyed. I didn't even knew why I was annoyed. "Besides, it would only concern me if one of them was a member of my classmates." I said truthfully. He stood up. "Well I'm going to break them apart since I happen to be class president" He looked at the trouble-makers. "And sad to say, one of them is a boy from my class. So if you would excuse me. " He turned to look at me. I just gave him a nod to let him know it was okay. "You look pissed." Vanessa declared. "I am not!" "Now you're being defensive." I glared at her. "Don't start Ness. I'm not really in a good mood." She raised her hands and sigh in defeat, returning back into sitting comfortably on her chair. I tried focusing back into eating what's left of my food. "Sam!" Rome yelled. I quickly turned to where he was. Sure enough I saw him gripping on the other guy, his classmate I presume, trying to hold him back from punching the other guy. Everythting kind of happened in a flash because before I knew it, the other guy punched Rome in the face. He stumbled to the ground. I couldn't make out the face of the other guy, though. Urgh! Without thinking, I ran to his side and kneeled, supporting his back so he could sit up a little. I gasped. "Oh my God! Your lips are hit! It's swollen and bleeding!" He tried getting up with my support and wiped the blood off of the corner of his mouth and looked at me. "It's nothing." I was so angry. Rome was just trying to break them apart and the good-for-nothing lunatic of a trouble-maker, hit him!! The nerve of that a--hole! I was still looking at him, worry echoed in my voice. "No! It's not NOTHING! I'm going to take you to the clinic!" "No, really Sam. I'm fine." His eyes betrayed him though, he looked hurt. "You are going with me to the clinic to get that bruise of yours checked or else!" I shot him a deadly glance. "Okay, okay. We're going." The other guys of his class came just in time and held one of two guys who were fighting earlier. While others took hold of the bastard who punched Rome. I was so furious that when I turned to the bastard's direction, a pair of familiar brown angry eyes met mine. Zen? I couldn't speak. I tried opening my mouth but nothing came out. I was so caught in the moment of being angry that I hadn't noticed it was Zen who punched Rome. When I finally realize what happened, I furrowed by brows matched her look with furious eyes. We were on a short staring match. "Let's go, Sam." I heard Rome say. I immediately placed my arm around his waist to support his weight. I was accompanied by one of his friends who was supporting the other side of his body. I was still staring furiously at Zen and couldn't forgive her for punching Rome like an i***t that she already is. When Rome and I tried to head for the opposite direction, I felt a hand stopping my free arm. I turned to see Zen gaze at me with pleading eyes. As if trying to say sorry. As id trying to beg me to stay beside her. I looked at her hand on my arm and looked back at her. "Let. Go. Of. My. Arm." I gave her a warning glare. She still didn't moved it, still so stubborn Zen. Sigh. Vanessa came into my rescue and dragged Zen away. She loosen her grip and eventually let my arm go. I was now focused on bringing Rome to the clinic. "Come on lover les, lez get you outta here", I heard Vanessa say in the distance as Rome and I made our way out from the mess. I made sure to knock on the door as soon as we got there and found the same nurse who tended Zen back when-- Urgh! Stop it Sam! "Hi! Uh.. My friend here has been punched in the face and bruised his mouth." I said to the nurse. "Oh heavens! Another fight?" She gasped. "Come. Let him sit on the bed, I'll go get the doctor." With that the nurse swiftly went to the doctor's office. I looked over the fridge where the nurse kept vaccines and other medicines in store. Fortunately, I found an ice bag, its contents are still full. I took it out and placed it immediately at Rome's bruised lip, careful not to hurt him in the process. The room was eerie silent. I just heard Rome's breathing and my heart beating. "I'm sorry." I told him, looking down. His eyes were partly closed when he spoke. "Why are you apologizing, Sam? You didn't do anything." "Exactly. I didn't do anything." Sigh. "If I just stood up and stopped the fight sooner, you wouldn't be in that position." "Sshh. Sam it was never your fault. Besides, I'd rather be punched, than you taking it for me." He attempted to smile but stopped and winced in pain. "But still." "There's no use in arguing, Sam." Just then the doctor came in and began examining Rome, asking him questions when, how, and why did it happen. I stepped out from the clinic to get some air. I swear that i***t Zen is now getting on my nerves! What's her problem?
