Chapter Seventeen - New Guy (Pt.1)

1113 Words
Sam's POV The following day came. Still, the person who made an effort to give me those flowers yesterday hadn't revealed himself or herself to me. I kind of wish they did so I could thank them, whoever they are. My mom was all smiles when I came home yesterday when she saw me with a bunch of flowers in my hand. She was glad somebody had admired me, but she was more glad because of the flowers. She took some of it from me so she could try to "revive" them and plant it back as an addition to her garden. It was lunch time at school, me and Vanessa were done eating our lunch at the cafeteria and continued chatting about last night's movie that we watched together. "Hi! Did you get the flowers I sent you?", asked the stranger. I turned around to see who it was. I could see from Vanessa's expression that she was shocked as I was. "Were you the one who gave me the flowers yesterday?" I asked, definitely embarrassed. He smiled. "Yes I was", he said. "And my apologies for interrupting your conversation." looking at me then at Vanessa. "No! Not at all!" Vanessa replied. He looked astonishingly handsome. The features of his face was like of a young mythical god or something. He had piercing blue eyes, a bit muscular, and quite tall, for a sixth grader. He sported a side part short pompadour hair style. Definitely cute, I conversed with Vanessa through my eyes. She replied with something that seemed like, Yep! Absolutely gorgeous! I rolled my eyes and focused them back to the guy in front. "Please accept my apologies again, I forgot to introduce myself", the stranger said like a true gentleman. "I'm Rome. Rome Traska." he said as he held out his hand for a shake. I took his hand and shook it, he had a firm grip. My! My! "No need to apologize, Mr. Traska. And pleased to meet you!" He still hasn't let go of my hand. "I want to thank you though for those lovely flowers. I loved it!" "Well I'm glad you liked them." He smiled again. "And please, just call me Rome. There's no need to be so formal." He finally let go of my hand, I wish he didn't. "Oh, I'm sorry. Rome it is." I smiled back. "I'm Sam and this is my friend, Vanessa." Vanessa just nodded at him and smiled. "I think I better go and leave you guys alone." said Vanessa as she stood up. "I remembered I have dance practice with Miss Raleigh. See you guys later!" I wished Ness didn't do that! I hate being left alone with strangers. But I somehow felt comfortable with Rome. "See you later Sam", said Vanessa and gave me a look as if to say spill everything to me, later! Sigh. "Sure! See you later, Ness!" I rolled my eyes. I was now left with a stranger I barely know. "May I sit down?" he asked while looking at the empty spot beside me that Vanessa just vacated. "Sure! I'm sorry, that was rude. Please, have a seat!" "Thank you!" he smiled again. I was looking at him, trying to memorize every feature of him so that I would remember him the next time I caught up with him. He's so gorgeous! "I'm not sure if you remember me", he started. "But our classroom in fifth grade was just a room apart." Man! I'm terrible at faces and names! "Really? I..I'm not pretty familiar with faces, I'm sorry. I'm just usually inside the room reading a book or sketching." He laughed lightly. It wasn't a nervous laugh either. This guy has a lot of confidence. Oozing with confidence in fact, but not in an impolite way. "Yes, I noticed." he said as he gazed into my eyes. I was trying to figure out if he was being creepy or hot, I'm not quite sure where to put my finger at. "I'd often pass by your door just to see what you were doing." he continued. "I didn't had that much friends then because I was a transferee so I had to think of ways how I could find out more about you!" Okay. A little creepy right there. I answered in my head. "You have a great and very soothing voice, by the way." Okay, not creepy after all! "Why, thank you." That being said, I was sure I blushed like a ripe tomato. He smiled and looked down, as if trying to think carefully of the things he wanted to say. Damn! He looked handsome in almost every angle! "Your classmates then would tell me that your voice was so cool that when you sang to them randomly in class while the teacher's out, most of them would fall asleep!" "Wow. They said that to you?" I wasn't sure if I'd take that as a compliment or not. It's either they loved my voice that they fell asleep listening to it, or they totally hated it they were bored to death and fell asleep! "Yes, yes they did! In fact they told me a lot about you! That's when I learned that you liked cherry blossoms. It was imported from Japan, by the way." "Wow. They told you a lot of stuff, did they?" I never fully thought of how my classmates thought of me. It made me smile. "Imported huh? Thank you again for the flowers. They were beautiful." "Not as beautiful as you mademoiselle", he said smiling at me in a strong French accent. "Are you French or something?" I blinked rapidly in surprise. I loved hearing the French accent. I could listen all day to a French speaking person and could care less if I understood what they're saying! He laughed without a trace of humor. "No, no I'm not. In my previous school, they taught us French. So if you're asking if I'm French, no, I'm not. I just know how to converse in French." He smiled yet again. Sigh. "Wow. That's cool!" was all I could say. I looked at the time, it was half past twelve now. "Oh wow! I'd love to stay and chat with you more but I really need to get to class. Vanessa and I are going to do a report in Biology so I need to make sure we've covered everything." "Sure, sure mademoiselle! Of course! You go ahead." "It was a pleasure to meet you...Rome." I smiled at him. "Thanks again for the flowers. I'll see you around." "The pleasure's all mine, Sam. See you around!" he waved goodbye.
