Elena Alexander stands in the cottage doorway, rain dripping from his black hair. His green eyes are wild. "How touching," he says. "Your little romance ends now." Ray puts himself between me and Alexander. "You will not touch her." Alexander smiles. "I already have. And I will again. But first, I am going to make you watch." I do not wait. I do not think. My body moves before my mind catches up. I shift within my wolf form, ripping the clothes apart, running speedily away from him. The shift is fast, violent. My bones crack. My spine twists. Fur sprouts from my skin. The thin dress tears down the middle. I land on four paws and bolt through the back window. Glass shatters around me, shards cutting my shoulders. I do not feel the pain. The rain hits my fur. The mud splashes. I run.
