Elena A shape emerges from the trees. Gray fur. Green eyes. Alexander. He is in wolf form, massive, his teeth bared. He blocks the path to the village. Ray pushes me behind him. "Run," he says. "I will hold him off." "No! You are wounded. You cannot fight him." "I can buy you time." Ray shifts. His bones crack. His fur sprouts. He stands in wolf form, gray and silver, his side stained with blood. Alexander lunges. The two wolves clash. Teeth and claws. Snarls and growls. I run. The village is behind me. The forest is ahead.
