Elena After leaving my grandmother Seraphina's cabin in the old forest, I travel with Ray to a small village at the edge of the mountains. We need supplies. Clothes. Food. Ray says we cannot stay hidden forever. Alexander is still searching, but the old magic hides our scent. The village is small, no more than twenty houses, but it has a shop — a narrow building wedged between a bakery and a blacksmith. The sign above the door reads Rosa's Fabrics. Now I stand inside the shop. The walls are lined with bolts of fabric, rolls of wool, cotton, silk. A wooden counter holds scissors, pins, measuring tape. Needles and thread in glass jars.
