Chapter 7

1016 Words
At first, she walked briskly, but her pace gradually slowed down until she eventually came to a halt and then sat down on the grass. She stayed there for a while with her body leaning back on the ground. As a child, she always had a great affinity with dogs. As a girl that age, she used to love to follow her brother who went to fetch them food. When she finally grew older, she would sometimes visit places like the zoo. During times like these, she often would spend a good deal of time talking to dogs and giving them treats, causing them to feel happy to the extent that their tails wagged happily. She used to laugh in delight, and would even reach out towards the dog and pet it. This resulted in a sense of satisfaction in the canine, and she would become more intimate with it than the rest of her family members who would never give it any attention. Whenever she was in the same room with it, she would talk to the dog and touch it affectionately. That's why, when the dog suddenly ran off without warning, it really left her in a state of utter confusion. She looked around for a moment in bewilderment, unable to grasp the situation. Finally she got up and returned home, but she was completely confused and couldn't stop thinking about what had just happened. There wasn' t a hint of happiness anywhere in her surroundings. Every single thing she did, her parents and siblings did not fail to notice. They were all worried sick about her. However, the best solution they could come up with was not to ask her anything directly and to try to put her mind at ease with small gestures. Even though her mother tried to speak to her gently, it did nothing to quell her worries. Her mom was very proud that she was not afraid of animals. Not only was she not scared, she loved to watch them interact with each other and to feed them. This caused her a lot of problems because she always had to hide it from others and try to act normally. Her mom never questioned her motives in feeding the animals, since she knew she would never intentionally cause harm to them or their food supply. The only person that asked her whether it was necessary for her to do so was her father. It seems like he had an interest in feeding them because he was a scientist, not a farmer. The truth was that she didn't have a good relationship with her biological parents, who were constantly fighting with one another. She was afraid of them because they always argued and fought everytime she saw them. Sometimes, they would even hit her. Her father was the kindest person. He didn't yell or hit her. Instead, he'd hold her tightly when he realized that she was frightened whenever something happened to upset her, and would comfort her until she fell asleep once again. Her mum too wasn't much of a bad person, but that simply meant that she was too busy working and not caring enough for her daughter. If only they could've treated her better, maybe she wouldn't have had trouble sleeping at night. Even though that incident with the cat traumatized Agatha deeply, there was still a tiny bit of happiness lingering in her heart. While it may seem as though she was unhappy, in reality, she could remember everything about that incident quite clearly and it was exactly as the perpetrator had described: A memory from the past... After hearing the sound of his own breathing which sounded abnormally loud inside his own ears, the male felt his stomach churning. He could hardly believe what he had just witnessed; however, the memory had remained clear in his mind, although in a way that would be considered almost dream-like. For reasons unknown to him, he found himself thinking about the girl that he had saved. "What am I supposed to do now..." his eyes widened in surprise. "How am I suppose to do what?" Agatha looked straight at him with a confused gaze. Despite having been caught off guard and startled, she managed to recover fast enough to answer his question. "Nothing important." A smile flashed across his face for an instant, as well as an attempt at making her smile. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Her voice trembled slightly, although she made an effort to suppress her feelings. "I think you're looking beautiful today." If she was able to see the faint blush upon his face, she probably would have been even more puzzled than she already was, but due to the fact that she was facing his way, she was able to see his face clearly. "Why do I feel as though you don't intend to explain the reason why you said those words?" "What makes you say that?" His eyebrows furrowed momentarily. "Because I'm able to tell that you haven't done it because you wanted me to respond positively to your compliment. In addition, I can also tell that you were lying." "I see..." There was no doubt that the man's facial features were attractive, and that he was intelligent and witty as well. He was the perfect gentleman, and anyone would find the two traits extremely admirable. Unfortunately, he was a man whose physical appearance was not worth anything in her eyes. In her opinion, the only good traits that he possessed were his intelligence and charm. Of course, they didn' t include his looks or his personality. "Oh, how rude of me. You probably don't want to listen to such rubbish," he laughed awkwardly. "Don't worry. I would never expect you to say such terrible things about yourself. However, there's a difference between saying things to someone's face and doing it in your head." "I don't know whether I should be offended or not." He shook his head in disbelief. His gaze turned downwards and he continued to walk forward.
