I watched the taillights of Aaron’s truck disappear into the dark line of trees, the engine noise fading until the only thing left was the sound of the wind picking up and the wet, heavy slap of mud against my boots. I looked down at my coat. Two thousand dollars of Italian wool, now splattered with brown sludge thanks to my brother’s little exit.
